ABOUT ME
I’m 32 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland, which is why I have such a strong accent! I was born and raised on a sheep farm watching my dad who was the shepherd.
At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep. [shudders thinking about it]
I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then in 2015 my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could continue working with sheep as it was something I loved doing. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 850 breeding ewes.
I shore over 19,000 sheep this season in the UK and have my own shearing run which lets you see many different farms in the summer months.
A few years ago I bought myself a sheep pregnancy scanner and have been building up my run since then.
I watched a few farm vlogs on KZbin and decided I could have a go and now here we are!

Yes. I too agree. Poor Sandi having to deal with the “mummy” lambs as well as still borns. Interesting way to get the mucus out when the lambs are just born. Looks very natural though. But I do have two questions first one is: what do you do with the lambs that are rejected by mom, do you bottle feed them? And the second question is What do you do with the wool that is shorn?

If you think about it human births are still very dangerous and we have the ability to tell people we need help. For every issue we have a farm animal has doubled. Unfortunately animal husbandry has created bigger babies and multiple babies in a tight space makes it hard to deliver without help. Breeding for healthy stock while balancing for the demand is a very fine line. I’m very appreciative of the uncensored video to help us understand the full story.

Wonderful footage of the C-section. I'm the child of a veterinarian and I remember well watching him perform a C-section on a cow (he kept the cow standing and sat on a stool at its side!) but I've never seen one on a sheep. So happy that you got a healthy lamb. I also love seeing you swing the lambs to help clear the airway...another memory from my childhood. I often wonder why I never see Sandi do that.

I'm lying here wondering how ridiculous I am that I started watching a hoof trimmer and a sheep farmer because brogue! My grandfather was Scottish - from Lochghelly - and I didn't realize how much I missed hearing him speak. Now I watch because it's interesting and fun and I'm invested in the cows and sheep as well as the people. That entire video was great. I especially liked seeing the C-section. Farm life is not all happy things. A person needs to understand that there's good and there's bad. But not to dwell on the bad. Your vet did a fantastic job. She had an excellent touch with the knife. Its tricky cutting through layers like that let alone straight. Too hard and you cut through the lamb. Too soft you get jagged edges if any. It takes experience to get the touch just right. She had that lamb out in under a minute. Brilliant.

Great video, although you had some less than ideal situations to deal with. I can say for sure I’ve never heard anyone say “3 legs have met me at the door,” or “she’s had some cake” when referring to a sheep. You crack me up. Loved the rescue operation for the rubbish and trying to convince Marisa she saw a lamb too. 😂 Meg looked so guilty after trashing the seat in the new ride 😂 The thought 💭 bubble over her head seemed to say “sorry, boss!” Those Dutch spotted were beautiful! When you put your green glove on all the other sheep headed in the other direction 😂.
