A good video about the hay cutting, farmers do a ton of that by me in Quebec. They usually make the round bails, but wrap them in the white plastic to help survive out 6 month of snow. Two cuts is usual , but getting a third cut can happen and is a blessing. Thanks Cammy.❤️👍🌱🌾🚜

Oh yeah, that is some gorgeous hay! What a great group of grassmen you've partnered up with too! So amazing and fascinating to see how it works, fluffing it up and turning it over to dry it out! That is really cool! You really do a great presentation of every aspect of farming that you speak about and show us. You're a natural teacher and the hands-on stuff and the visuals are fantastic as it really gives you the feeling that you're there! From so far away, even (Cincinnati, Ohio, US). My ancestors on my mom's mom's father's side were from Scotland several generations ago (and he, my great-grandfather, was a farmer himself near here in Kentucky)! On my dad's side (the Ogles) are from Northumberland. There is even a town there called Ogle. That's us! I know you go to Northumberland a lot for shearing and the like! Anyway, it is so fun to hear you show and explain everything, the drone shots, the action shots, watching and listening to you direct the dogs (so fun!), and everything! Thanks so much; it is really relaxing! Anyway, no need to apologize for wearing sandals; I wear flip flops all summer here, as it is very hot and it is very important to get your toes in the sun and fresh air to keep toenail fungus at bay! Best to you, Lizzie and Jock!

You actually managed that grass very well. If i understood you, you grazed this field, then let it regrow. That makes good soft hay. I am also impressed with the quantity of grass on your field, the fertility level must be high in the soil.

Like watching Mark Brock vlogs as he shows you round his machinery as well as a description on what he is sowing and what farmers are looking for when the plants are growing . I was brought up on various farms around Angus and can remember as a wee boy in the late 60s getting my school bag wheeched off my shoulder by a passing hay turner , i dont need to tell you that my mother tore the driver a new one , cheers from Brechin

Like the shepherd’s bumper sticker says, cash, grass or ewes...no one rides for free! Warm here in Washington is 41C for about 2 weeks in late August. Our sheep hide in shade and refuse to graze. They eventually get hungry and go out and graze all night when I set up the genny lights on the pasture.

This was an incredible video! I've owned and trsined horses for years. we usually fed square bales. Occasionally we would get around bales the grass in Florida with poor and we didn't have rain. We didn't use round bales a lot because horses were just so messy with them. They just eat the inside out, and then they end up laying down or pooping in the rest! I think your grass looks awesome! I was excited to hear that it seems like you're hay will be going to somebody who has horses. I was wondering if you could explain what haylage is. I know what silage is and I know what hay how do you put them together to get haylage? I've seen where you've mentioned that you've had that in your sheds during lambing season. Is one better than the other? Thanks so much for sharing this blog about hay. It was fascinating to watch!
@Hailstonepie

So silage is fermented grass. Hay is dried grass. Smell it deep and next year you will remember how sweet it was to this year, the sweeter it smells the more the animals like it.

On the farm I grew up on we had 6 acres of alfalfa hay. We would trade all of it minus the 2-3 ton we'd keep for our livestock for the cutting and baling of it. We'd get 2-3 harvests a summer, mostly because you don't graze directly on alfalfa, it's too rich for most livestock. I find it interesting that y'all have an extra step, or rather than we combined the flipping and windrow steps. I suppose it could be to the difference in climate between Scotland and the Inland PNW USA.

@@TheSheepGame ours lay for 6 days no rain kicked out twice a day in the sun. Had to leave it baled in the field for 3 weeks to stop it going wrong. Core temp of the bale wanting to rise.

When I buy hay for my 4 bunnies, 3 sheep and chicken bedding I look for dry (obviously) but also a little green looking. I was always told this has more nutrition than without any colour. Don't know how true it is? Why would anyone give this a thumbs down 'wazaks'!

We're so progressive in the U.S. we're phasing out livestock and all earthgrown produce. I love fresh hay but it gives me heartburn.
