Today on The Skid Factory We're Repowering the SUPER COX with a Yamaha 450CC Single Cylinder Engine in preparation for this years ‪@supercheapautotv‬ Best Performing Oil's Campaign!
SET A REMINDER TO WATCH THE NEW COMMERCIAL TOMORROW!
• Country Club Chaos - 5...
The big twin cylinder Kohler engine was great in theory but we weren't unable to get the power to the ground even after multiple clutches and a belt drive system. A wet motorbike clutch is the ideal solution and to get that we need a bike engine to go with it. Fortunately Woody had the old WR stashed at a mates house so we recovered it and got stuck in.

Surely you could get an old Subaru motor to fit in there, we all know you love them. It's low, and probably narrow enough if you put it in sideways, just mig a sprocket to the flywheel and run a chain to a motorbike gearbox with the clutch, bobs ya uncle

I think an interesting choice would be a 1300cc VW air-cooled flat 4. The drive may be a pain to work out but simple install of the engine with no radiator and real easy wiring. Plus how cool would a couple of Webber's hanging out each side look.

Keep the current power plant, but couple an electric motor to the idler shaft as a 'power adder'. Bonus points for working out the maximum rate the idler would spin at max speed and getting the gearing right. Easy 'roll start' function if the starter kicks out too :)

Ducati testrastretta 1198cc engine from a Diavel or multistrada. Some of the amazing reasons to do so would be the engine note once you build an exhaust that works, a great heads up display to use as a dashboard for that bad boy, even give you some lap timing, taking it to a Ducati dealer for a service on the desk cables would probably be the funniest thing in the planet to get their reaction. The engine was built to be torquey as hell and who doesn't want over 150hp to the wheels on a lawnmower.

Work had a Honda rototiller made sometime in the 1990's. Thing was a beast. If it hit something it couldn't get through, it would just launch. Always started on the second pull. Even after sitting all winter. Everything is all lined up for it too.

Weber (Textron) 750 Turbo MPE! Compact engine designed for multiple applications. Found in Snowmobiles (Polaris Dragon IQ), a number of PWC, and some other applications. Good german design. Stock power out of a 750 HO of 120HP. Good tuners/kits were putting out 200HP, and at least one mad-man in Utah put out a 880cc kit that put out 350HP.

Engine choice is easy! Use what you have laying around, It's a mower not a top fueller. Make it look and sound cool, go have fun. Job done. For me that would be an old mtd mower, Chinese Lifan 250cc 4stroke 6 speed. And as a fitter machinist, get some taper locks, servicing trackside with welded shaft components will really impede on your pit stop times!

The Super Cox is now the Super Dooper Cox, gonna be a ripper. Fun build to follow for sure. When this project first started having drive transfer troubles, my thoughts were to use an 80's YZ shaftdrive three wheeler as the donor drivetrain. I had a 50cc version way back when but they had 350's and I believe 450's too. Not sure how well it would do because of the preset length but since we're just dreaming anyway lol.

I think that a Moto Guzzi 500cc woudl fit nicely in there. It eliminates the need for all the chains and sprockets, but you would need some kind of rear diff to adapt the drive shaft to the rear wheels. Also it's air cooled so less parts to mount and it will sound nice with two straight pipes on the sides. Maybe lean the idle mixture a bit for some pops on decel

Have an Honda VFR 750 from 98 in storage that needs repairs on the frame and plastics but engine is in a running condition. OK this is going to sound daft but what about a Fiat 500 twin air, 875cc 2 cylinder turbo, the engine is compact, light, and a good amount of torque. I reckon a smaller Japanese V-twin cruiser engine would be the go! VN800/900 or XVS650 etc. Lots of torque and great sound. Small form factor too

KTM 520 I had one in a sidecar then in a Banshee and it kicked ass. Side note it was the KTM 520 the late great Andy Caldecott rode in the 2000 Finke

Hey boys, great vidz as usual! Chuck a KTM 950 motor into it, V twin would sound mean! Looks like you have just enough room in the "engine bay" too.

Woody, Al, what about a big ass BMW R1200GS engine. Big heads sticking out the sides to scare the other competitors , and a shaft drive to keep the legs safe. And twin pipes sticking out one each side for looks. Oh and to save the lugholes from those pipes, a pair of Supercheap ear defenders when test driving.

I reckon an outboard engine, 2 stroke so you can lay it on its side for the chain and turn the carbs back to vertical (fuel injected better). 50 horse maybe. Multiple cylinders so better torque. Set up a radiator and electric water pump. Not sure on the clutch n gears, might not need gears, work it out. Something different

It would be rad to make a mini sand rail type of cart. A Honda J series mounted in the rear with a Subaru/VW type transaxle. Wheelies for days! Add some paddle tires.

Mini diesel from either a generator or air compressor maybe even a welder, just for the torque and soot, haven’t seen one before.

Looks like fun. I would've tried putting either a modern Kawasaki ER6 paralleltwin engine, or an older Suzuki sv650 engine(twin). good size and the sound is so amazing.
