I remember a kid like this in elementary school who would always raise his hand to say unrelated stuff so the teacher stopped calling on him altogether but that never stopped him from waving his hand around. I had to google it as well. Apparently it's when someone is hired because of their vibes and attitude rather than their hard skills. Don't know how common it is as I've never worked in an office environment.

It does kind of exist but it’s never really intentional. Or rather I don’t think the company actively tries to recruit a “personality hire” It’s more like if someone is very personable and interviews well but isn’t the most competent or proficient at their job - but usually they keep coworkers morale high or are good at resolving conflicts so managers cut them some slack on actual work. This is in an office environment - probably wouldn’t work if people are with electricity, heavy equipment, etc need to have everyone competent there lol

There is a sad element to Slaps videos, in that all the archetypes he presented are clear cases of untreated personality disorder. Sooner or later, many of these people will eventually either get better or worse. Those who get better, have to live with memories of actually being 'that guy'. It's quite shameful and depressing
