Gay used to mean “happy” and was widely used in conversation and written material, but now there is a stigma to this word and it is never used apart from the new meaning of homosexual. I resent this as many others do , now the homosexuals have stolen the word “pride “ as well and also the rainbow . I had a gay couple as neighbors in the 80's. They had been together for 17 years at that time. The 2nd or 3rd year of the local pride parade, the 3 of us decided to go. Neither of us had been before. When the guys saw the half naked people marching in the parade, Jeff said, "Let's go, this is a damn embarrassment and will do nothing to help with how people see us" That was the last pride parade I attended.

When I briefly saw it, I immediately thought the same and left in disgust shortly afterward, feeling that it was likely more harmful to the gay community than helpful. My husband and I wld go for a walk w/ kids on a popular street, we didn't know it was Pride Parade. We stayed. I liked the footwear..it was a good vibe, nothing obscene, a lot of leather but so what. I was glad when gay ppl were given same rights as straight married ppl. But at that time, everyone stayed in their lane. My 6 yr old daughter disliked the colors GAP for kids had for girls, pale blue, pink, lavender, she'd go pick out a hoody from " boys " side, colors- navy, red, green. A salesperson said oh sweetie, your clothes r over there, and I said, she can wear whst color she wants. She wanted to be in boxing. So I put her in boxing. She's a gorgous high maintenance ($$,) nails, long streaked blonde hair, gorgous, who's been with same guy 7 yrs. She's straight, has gay friends. Oh and she's a roofer. I don't believe in gender colors, toys, (btw, she can carry the 70lb loads) but I do think men are bigger, stronger, faster, and that a man is king of his castle. She does the cooking/ cleaning, and pays half the rent. There's so many, if u watch y/ t, entitled young women, I can't wait til they're 30, I'm 55. I'm invisible, but, I had my day in the sun, now it's my daughters turn. They both hsve conservative, but open minded, loving ❤️ 's. I'm really proud of them. If one were to be gay, I'd love her the same. I wish ppl cld just stop being crazy, and the new teaching kids they can b this or that, I detest. Let them figure it out. Just stop. Please.

My lesbian friend plucked up the courage to join in an Australian pride parade a few years ago. She found the whole event confronting, utterly vulgar and distasteful. Brilliant discussion. I am a woman doctor and recovering Catholic. The latest buzzwords for caring for the underprivileged is to say that you " walk with" the victim. The local archbishop advised school teachers to " walk with" trans children and their families. I replied that " you can walk with them as much as you like but this is child abuse." While I do agree that the attempted "erasure" of sex has been aimed squarely at women ('birthing person", "front hole", etc), and that women are more clearly under attack than men, I do have to push back on your blanket statement regarding MEN's acceptance of effeminate men. Bullying is bullying, and gay-bashing has been steadily on the decrease since the 80s. There are male subcultures where homophobia is still rampant, but they are firmly in the minority, and most are at least smart enough to keep that stuff to themselves when interacting with the general public. Being openly anti-gay is not acceptable in our society at large, and most people (man or woman) will push back against that kind of talk or behavior.

Many of them have decided that they are now lesbian, and many bully lesbian women into finding them attractive and wanting to sleep with them. There is blatant sexism and misogyny going on here.

As a straight women I found this conversation fascinating. I have many gay friends who would feel the same as Douglas. They are not part of some random grouping with people speaking for them! They don’t need that, they are bright, witty ( like Douglas) and very capable of speaking for themselves. We must stop putting people into boxes where they clearly don’t belong.

What's weird to me is how some folks treat this gay thing to be something so significant. These days, it really isn't. Most people are like "okay whatever" now. We shouldn't be treating it like such a big deal anymore. By always putting it in the forefront and singling it out, it just creates or reinforces it as being "abnormal".

It's like they're just grasping for any hint of homophobia today under the rocks just to continue to blast how ignorant our nations are and how much they're victimized by society. I'm 24 and the gay issue is so old now that if you were to tell anyone my age you were any part of the LGBTQ community, you would either get a weird look (because it no longer even matters to people), or you'd get support in the form of "yasss queen, do your thingg," 🙄. Literally no one of my age gives a damn and it's so irritating that we have to continue to hear how homophobic we still all are, and see certain deranged people like Jussie Smollet literally fake hate crimes just to gain attention since homophobia is so rare now a days. It's like the gay young adults of today can't accept being accepted by society... it's truly bizarre.
