Porsche club events were a lot of fun. Good mix of young and older enthusiasts. Everyone was nice and polite. I sold my 911 for a C8 Z06. I haven’t joined the local Corvette club since they require monthly meeting attendance. I’m in my 30s, hence not retired like most of those guys, so I’m not making meetings that aren’t car shows 😅

Hey Yuri, I used to track my 718 spyder and now my 718 RS with the PCA rensport region. Since that day, I think the car is boring on normal roads. It needs a lot of speed to appreciate the potential of that car. I can take my wife on track events with two carry-on, camping chairs in the back, soft cooler, electric compressor, helmet, tools, bottles of wine, skate board and more for a 3 days trip. The only complaint: damn it is loud!! The advance driver education events with the PCA are awesome with a nice crowd. Old guys, young guys, old cars, expensive cars, base models, slow cars but all laughs and fun! Keep on the good reviews!

Those wheels aren't part of the Weissach Package neither are the Bucket seats. They are standard regardless of the addition of the Weissach Pack.

9:26 I am 100% with Yuri on this. The 986 and 996.1 have aged very well and either with 993 Turbo look wheels or the GT3 Sport Design wheels are great. I also love the Pastel Yellow color from 1997-1999. Yuri is a man of great taste.

Anyone who wants or buys this RS doesn't think the top is an issue, enough already. Porsche created a pure design that also saves weight. The original 550 Spyder never had a top (they made one, but no one used it). One of the best modern Porsches available, a true sports car.

A pure design that has a radio, media centre, and air conditioning 😂. If Porsche really wanted to save weight they would remove those but those are unacceptable comforts to its collectors sorry customers.

Sure, but the gains wouldn't matter, it's fast enough for what it's intended to do...... carve turns on some backroad or mountain.

@@bigestudios3890 that’s my point, they allow certain comfort but make the roof impossibly complex. Is it so hard to create a usable roof. Of course with the roof they created no one wants to use it because it’s too complicated and takes too much time but hey it saves a few kg apparently.

@@forzer456 it's not that complex, lol. I don't think weight savings was the only reason for this top design, the GT3 engine would not fit without the top mod. It really isn't a big deal, this is not a daily driver. Have a good day.

Love the spyder rs. Way better looking than the speedster. All 911 cabs look bloated in the back. (IMO) The PDK is perfectly suited to playing a symphony through those intakes using that fast reving engine. It is a musical instrument. Not sure what tires you were looking at; it takes Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s (usually). Door pulls have nothing to do with Weissach Package. They are in all GT cars. Carbon bucket seats have nothing to do with Weissach Package. The best (loudest?) sound configuration is easily with the bimini top on (no back section). It isn't so much for drizzle as it is for very sunny (hot) days. The Spyder RS sounds okay for people outside the car, but there is nothing better for the people inside. If you love the intake sound (which most gearheads do), then even in town, in traffic, the intakes can easily be made to sing. No fast speeds or curves needed, just some wrist flicks. Even pulling away from lights sounds epic. I can't speak about the other clubs, but the Porsche Club (PCA) is awesome. Tons of events of all kinds, and the people are largely just serious car lovers; super friendly and helpful. They also hold th best driving events, and usually end up farming out their (autox or track driving) instructors for other clubs to use.

@@axe2grind244 well to be fair I’d finance, not buy outright, so maybe I’m undeserving according to Porsche. I’m not as fond of the other 4.0, I’ve been obsessed since the 991.2 gt3 which is probably the smarter choice anyway. Those are likely due to drop in value soon.

I'm new to paddle shifting. I've always owned five on-the-floor manuals and one three-on-the-tree manual. It does take a bit to get used to it. I'm a fan of rowing my own gears with on-the-floor manuals. That could be because that's the manual I have the most time with. Thanks for another sweet vid. i have come to the opinion that the automatics are preferred when you have this much power and this much RPM. it's just so easy to spin the wheels on the upshift and lose control - not just 1-2 but 2-3 as well. in this car, with a 6 speed, youll be shifting into 3rd at something like 90mph. and also, there's just so much less shifting to do. you only get one shift at speeds below definitely-going-to-jail

They’re not the fox body mustangs or civics from back in the day. You basically start off in second gear because first is too short and are doing 90 in third.

Love your take on the interior…..love the analogue look and feel. Like old school with a slight mix of modern tech. The new all digital dash from the Taycan is disappointing. Recently sat in the 25 911….Dash and shifter left me wanting. This 718 Spider is waaaay cool. 😎

Honestly tired of every car reviewer making fun of the Spyders roof. The car was designed as a roadster only with no top as well as weight reduction. The top is only there in the event there is rain. If you want a top, get a GTS!

I've got a 2000 986 Boxster and I love everything about it. Wouldn't give up the runny egg headlights for an LED upgrade. Porsche got that car perfect. Porsche Club of America definitely passes the vibe check. Plenty of cool people and events.

I love how Jakub reviewed the GT4 RS by his own due to Yuri's back problems, but Yuri reviewed the softer Spyder RS as a compliment for that. Also, Mid engined Porsches are better than 911s, I will never stop saying that.

PCA is an outstanding add for ownership. I take part in our tours, excursions and teach at our track days. We just returned from a trip around the Cabot Trail which was an absolute blast. The Spyder RS is an awesome car, but for our maritime weather, I’ll stick with my 991.2 Turbo Cab.

FWIW, I doubt you'd see much cross shopping between the cars you've mentioned. The R8 is no longer, the SL63 is too heavy, you could buy two Vettes for the price of a Spyder RS, and you could buy two Spyder RSs for the price of the Lambo or McLaren.

I love it. 911 Speedster would be the choice of course. But I'd still choose it over the others. Its still more sensible than the competition. As you said; supercarfail because too much frunk space! you could fit a carry-on. It's a nice design with beautiful lines and an amazing soundtrack! In typical Porsche fashion you can negotiate normal roads and entryways with confidence. Its superbly balanced and has all the latest improvement( except for the new 911 e-turbo ) from Porsche engineering

I believe many would agree that over the last two decades the Boxster/Cayman has matured into its own class. Rather than what the original Boxster was perceived to be a “poor man’s 911”; Definitely picking this RS over the Speedster but disagree with the comparisons mentioned. Maybe it is more comparable to a BMW Z4, Audi TTRS or Lotus Evora.

Yes the Porsche Club is great. I belong to PCA Cal Inland. We go on drives through the mountains every couple of weeks. They also so have track days. I just took my new S/T on a mountain drive and it was great. I've taken my Speedster, GT3 and 911s on the drives and they are always a blast.

Aa a 718 Spyder manual owner I can say a big plus of the car vs. the Lambo, R8 etc. is the size. In Europe roads, easpecially curvy roads, are pretty narrow. The Spyder RS is 10 cm narrower than the Huracan, that makes a huge difference on a mountain road in Europe where I typically drive the Spyder on a road trip. Also, when it comes to attacking really twisty roads the handling of the 718 is just amazing. To me the R8 and Lambo rather need some speed to come really alive in terms of driving pleasure (You can of course argue that the glorious V10 alone creates driving pleasure from the second you start it but I refer to handling). McLaren and Z06 I can't tell and SL is a completely different category of car.

Yes indeed I like the "runny egg" headlights... Of course I've got some aftermarket clear lens headlights on my 02, 3.2 liter, six speed, 986 Porsche Boxster S, with Fabspeed Exhaust, CAI, catless headers, IPD Plenum/TB, Numeric shifter, Bilstein performance shocks, H&R lowering springs etc.. They're in my opinion super sleek!

The Cayman/Boxster shape, for me, excluding special editions, is the best shape Porsche puts out. But, it’s their entry-level car. It’s not apples to apples, but at ~£130K MSRP, my used R8 Spyder is literally half the cost. Could never justify such an expensive entry-level-looking car…

Yuri, when you rush through taking the top off, it's not the actual time. If you're taking off the top you do it at your own place. It's not a race. People will see you frantically rushing, and it doesn't look like your Porsche. Or you know what you're doing if you're going in a rush.
