The track is wonderfully produced, and the guitar playing is super. I'm not sold on the boss amp emulation. These emulators sound great isolated. The distortion is in the right frequency band, especially on the attack of the note, but listen to how thin and compressed the attack is when buried in the track. The supporting tone is different. I was impressed with the character changes when switching cabs. I'd be happy with the boss emulations for an IEM mix. It's a good job those crash cymbals cut-off quickly. Paramore/Pink/Kelly Clarkson/Breaking Benjamin would all have punchier, and more distinct guitar sounds; even with quad tracked, layered guitars with loud pop vocals in their mix.

Damn, wish I had watched your review of the Headrush MX5 and then this video 2 days ago before I ordered (and have received) the MX5. The IR200 is exactly what I need and the Headrush - while fun and amusing (and as you said, it has some amazing clean amp models/tones + shedloads of effects) it really does feel like it's aimed at guitarists who want to sound "like" their heroes, which is perfectly fine but not for me. I need something for recording more than live and I fell for all the gushing reviews of the MX5 and just thought ah why not and pressed "buy" on Amazon. Good thing is I can return the MX5 now and get one of these babies 😁 PS: subscribed as love your recording tips as I now have to lay down my tracks on Logic at home and send to the producer so as a neanderthal (ugh unk me want loud sounds make it happen) I'm having to learn how to record myself. So one good thing from the MX5 is I found your channel. Top banana mate 😎

Would be interesting if boss and all the others multieffect builders releases a plugin like helix native, for computers, tablets and cellphones, and connect the instrument with an interface, instead of building a hardware. That would be a lot cheaper and ecological.
@lammyjammer66703 жыл бұрын
But then you'd have to worry about hardware support and dealing with latency on each device, etc., which would greatly affect the general experience. Making bespoke hardware allows companies to make the most efficiently possible device for a given task. One could easily argue the opposite as well and say the smaller device is more energy efficient and ecologically sound considering it requires less energy than a typical computer to run and only includes the hardware absolutely needed for the task at hand. That's without even mentioning the portability.
@RubenParolla3 жыл бұрын
@@lammyjammer6670 even with a hardware you need a computer, so if you use a computer, or tablet or a phone as the hardware is more direct. And with thunderbolt or USB type C there's no latency. And chips, are getting faster, powerful every time. And there's footswitchs...
@compucat3 жыл бұрын
@@RubenParolla Speed (throughput) and latency are not the same thing. Sure, I can run a plugin on my computer with reasonable latency - but can I do that reliably on stage night after night? Dedicated hardware removes many of the problems that make general-purpose computers poorly suited for realtime tasks like audio processing, allowing for guaranteed low latency and greater reliability. Computers are flexible, dedicated hardware is reliable: different tools for different jobs.
