@ghostface4404 I can't argue with you that. There is caveat, though. If we're going to split hairs on what's just and unjust, everyone today is guilty as the jedi. You don't ask where the cobalt from your phone comes from. The farms that some of your produce and meats come from. There are just as many atrocities there as there are committed by evil groups and good groups. The only thing that changes is perspective. I think they were all tools of the force and can't be held to too much account. If everything is fated, can you really call someone " good" or "evil" if the force is dictating their action, all to achieve their goal. Was Palpatine really evil or influenced? Were the Jedi really good or influenced by the force? Are you ever truly free, or are you following an architects plan? If it's the latter, then can we hold anyone culpable for their action when they were suppose to do this and that to maintain balance.

Off topic but Mace Windu although he’s one of my favorites it’s fascinating how’s he’s a walking paradox. This man exemplifies both everything wrong with the Jedi while simultaneously embodying the type of mentality a Jedi should have. His rigid obsession with rules and unshakable loyalty to the republic is what diminishing his relationship to the living force compared to someone like Qui Gon however his attitude of seeing a problem and fixing it, insane self discipline and mastery of Vaapad showcase not only self mastery but his lack of fear when it come to his personal path between light and dark. He’s mastered his lower nature and is so mentally unshaken that he cannot be lured to the dark side. His stance in not giving in to the dark is so strong he made an entire lightsaber fighting style that literally flirts with the dark side but uses it for good. Mace Windu’s level as a Jedi mirrors the results of his self improvement but his fearless attitude when it comes to self introspection. In my humble opinion if Windu had time to see the error of his ways and gained a relationship to the light side like Qui Gonn he quite possibly could have been 2-3 times as powerful. As a matter a fact of majority of the entire order embodying Jedi like Qui Gon Jinn or Plo Koon Sidious no matter the prep time would NEVER have succeeded. Qui Gon had such a humble and deep bond to the force he lashed out and killed a random creature simply because it’s what the force wanted in that moment. It left a young Obi wan confused but I’m telling you lol….things really could have been different. This may seem like a very strange comparison but hear me out…if I could compare it to someone who is a Christian Mace Windu would be that Christian who looks at you with arrogance or self righteousness because you made a mistake or missed church while Qui Gon would be the type of Christian to give you the shirt off his back if you told him you were cold.

while Palpatine’s ultimate goals were self-serving, his observations about the Jedi's position and the potential dangers of their power were not entirely unfounded, especially when viewed through the chaotic lens of the galactic conflict.
@exonymousprimeАй бұрын
Considering that they never tryed to use that power to take over but only to keep peace shows that his observations were wrong. The only reason they interfered, this time was because a Sith had gotten into a position of power in the galactic senate and done so by not only hiding who they truly was but by making the need for them to be there. Thus, while they did attempt to overthrow the galactic senate, it was to remove someone who didn't belong and let actual democracy be back in charge. So Papatine was never right about the Jedi he just either lied or manipulated things to make people believe what he said was true while hiding the truth, not just about himself but why the Jedi came for him.

The jedi had lost this war when they lost Qui-Gon. He was one of the few remaining (if at least the loudest) of those who stood against the councils decisions, especially when it came to their dealings in politics. I dont remember the exact comic this comes from, but Qui-Gon once had a discussion with Yoda about his worry in being referred to as "a great warrior" because he knew that's not what jedi where ment to ever be. If he were still around, I'd like to guess he'd want to advise a jedi conglomerate to work with the separatists. Not as a military advisory in any sense, but a moral one. @venkelos6996Ай бұрын
On the one hand, I'm a bit surprised that they would use Mace Windu that way, after taking the time to establish certain "elements" of Ki-Adi-Mundi's backstory, but I do feel that it was important to show this spread throughout the Jedi, and Council, and to have it be someone of such high standing. Vapaad drew in the dark side, and seeing the future, but incomplete, could falsely direct many Force-users down poor paths. At the end, though, I can appreciate when they let Palpatine use that greatest of weapons; the truth, even if it was a "fact" he subtly put the Jrdi on, over years of manipulation.

Holy Sith imagine if this was the plot of ROTS! To be honest, Palpatine wouldn't even NEED to capitalize on Anakin's nightmares of losing Padme in order to make Anakin and the Jedi enemies. Nor would he need to reveal his identity as a Sith Lord. Because as we saw in the movie, Anakin outright HATED the Jedi Council for forcing him to spy on Palatine, and considered it treasonous. If the Jedi attempted to overthrow Palpatine, Anakin absolutely would turn against the Order in order to save the man he saw as his friend, father and mentor figure. After everything the Council had done to him, from not saving his mother from slavery, lying to him about the Rako Hardeen situation, giving him a Padawan only to take her away from him, and never trusting him and always treating him as an outcast and pariah despite his loyal service to the order, this betrayal of Palpatine would be THE LAST STRAW. From Anakin's point of view, the Council took his mother from him, they took Ahsoka from him, and they forced him to hide his love with Padme. But THEY WILL NOT TAKE PALPATINE FROM HIM! And with the sheer amount of rage he would have towards the council (plus with encouragement from Palpatine like was the care in the Dooku duel), Anakin would not hesitate to use the full power of the dark side against the Jedi. Master Windu of course would be the first to fall to his blade. In the end, the Empire would still rise. Emperor Palpatine would rule the Galaxy, with Anakin Skywalker as his right hand man.

Now if they had been plotting before palpatine gained any power, then this would actually be something to talk about. Lots of people insist that Windu's flirting with the Dark Side via his use of Vaapad was unimportant because they insist that he was fully in control and not vulnerable to the Dark Side. Yet, what we see of him is often uncompromising, agitated, even angry. All of which Palpatine was aware of and, combined with Yoda's rigid dogmatism, were what allowed him to manipulate the Jedi so effectively. Windu grabbing some buddies and going to Palpatine's office in the middle of the night, without even bringing any camera drones to record the encounter, or any members of the Senate to act as witnesses (not even allies like Padme or Bail Organa) was what Palpatine *wanted* and used to create his narrative to the Senate. Reimagine what would have happened if Windu had quietly deployed camera droids outside the windows and beamed footage of Palpatine using his powers during the fight in the office. The Senators would likely have freaked out that Palpatine had secretly been a powerful Force user all this time. They would have panicked at the thought that he might have been reading their minds all along. Perhaps even controlling weak-minded aides and military personnel. That evidence alone would have have shifted their opinions greatly. But Windu could only think in terms of aggressive action. Anyone who did not share his thoughts on the situation a priori was not to be trusted, so he didn't bother.

Palpatine drove the Jedi to act as they did. He just used their laws against them by carefully placing the pieces in their way

I can understand Why Mace Windu wanted to Finally End the war as quickly as possible, but he ended up acting with Too much haste and Arrogance and in the end that Haste cost not only him but the WHOLE Galaxy.

Has anyone wondered, with the description of how worried Mace Windu was, and how ready he was to go after Palpy, if the dark side was affecting his thinking, amping him up to the point of going off like he did, half cocked. Is it possible that Palpy was using the dark side to manipulate him into doing exactly what he did, so that Palps would have his excuse to move against the Jedi? A form of plausible deniability in the court of public opinion. Just a thought.

If Mace survived, it would only make sense that the surviving jedi would resent him for his actions, costing the republic and jedi order

“Destroy the Jedi, this would” is Yoda speaking of the extrajudicial assassination of the Chancellor who may or may not be under the influence of the mysterious Sith Lord. (The same that they see pulling the strings of the CIS.) killing a politician without due process is completely against the Jedi Code. It was only when Anakin informed Windu that Palpatine was he himself that very Sith Lord that Windu acted immediately, and the Galaxy at large would have taken it as completely justified had he succeeded. I’m suspecting that there would be some sort of holo surveillance system that would have captured the whole encounter with Palpatine, pulling a red lightsaber and cutting down 3 Jedi in an unnatural savage manner. They’ll see him deploy his force lightening and watch as it fries his own flesh. They’d still see the yellow orange rings in his eyes as his true identity is unveiled. If for whatever reason there was not any Holo evidence there would still be three of the best Jedi duelist lying dead. The Jedi would probably have to recover Palpatine’s lightsaber for evidence in that case, if I remember correctly it flew out the window when Windu disarmed him. Shouldn’t be all that hard for the Jedi. They’d be able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Palpatine was the Sith Lord. I image through thorough investigation there would possibly be things that confirm Palpatine was manipulating both the Republic and the CIS and basically manufactured a war that ravaged the galaxy to empower himself. If Windu succeeded renewed he’d be a hero to the republic and reverence and admiration for the Jedi would spread wide across the galaxy. Only corrupt special interests and greedy politicians/elites would likely have much a of problem with Windu’s heroic actions. As for Yoda I’m sure he and the rest of the council would praise Windu more so than they praised Obi-Wan after he defeated Maul in a, shall we say, less-than-Jedilike fashion. After all , as strictly as the Jedi adhere to their code, Jedi don’t deal in absolutes so even that has its limits in their eyes.

Palpatine wasn’t wrong tho the Jedi were corrupt maybe not by the dark side but by politics this also explains why Anakin in his perspective was convinced that the Jedi were traitors to the Republic and that they were willing to bend the rules as they saw fit to overthrow the Republic such a conspiracy like this is why Palpatine was able to manipulate Anakin and turn him against Mace Windu and the Jedi aside from all the years of being held back by the Council and denied rank of master that is, such a treasonous act was enough for Sidious to turn the Jedi into a scapegoat making them out to be enemy of the state an action made by Mace Windu which of course backfired due to Anakin joining the Sith

To me, it seems like the only way things could’ve worked out better is if Palpatine were somehow taken out by a third party or by accident and the Jedi didn’t interfere with how the senate chose a new chancellor. But perhaps I’m missing something that this unlikely scenario would have in store for everyone.

Organa would have sided with the Jedi. He did not agree with many things Palpatine was doing. He was appalled with some. And already knew the Jedi were in a terrible situation. Padme likewise had been privy to undercurrents and awful impacts. I wouldn’t assume she would be so easily bamboozled in the end. Her relationship with Anakin would seriously complicate things but don’t count her out.
@anthonyml7Ай бұрын
Well Mace does admit it among the other masters in Revenge of the Sith so...we do kind of know this already, but it's implied as a temporary measure till a new chancellor is elected. A good question is would the senate have actually just amended w/e their constitution was to re-elect Palpatine or maybe they would have chosen someone more moderate, who also sympathized with the CIS? 🤔

Sidious was a master manipulator, setting his elaborate trap over many years. The whole decadence of the senate, the corruption along with the bureaucracy, put the Jedi in a very bad situation. He succeeded in portraying the Jedi order as a cult that wanted to rule the galaxy! Even if Mace managed to capture or kill Palpatine, I don't think that the Jedi would rule as dictators. This happened in the past, there were various Jedi serving as supreme chancellors , but only for a specific period of time . But, the public started to see them as the enemy, due to Sidious ' supreme machinations! There is no better manipulator and plotter than Sidious

with the situation at the time the republic did need some drastic changes, but i think mace might have been getting dangerously close to the darkside himself at the end

I think acting on Windu's suggestion would've wounded the Jedi in the end but they would've succeeded and the Jedi would've taken over but not as high officials, it's more likely they'd temporarily enforce martial law to investigate Palpatines involvement and connection to the sith and all of his co-conspiritedors and have them all arrested then it's more likely they'd reinstate the senate and suggest Padme or Bail Organa or even Mon Mothma be nominated for the seat of supreme chancellor someone they can trust, they'd discover the inhibitor chips in the clones and aniteyate a program to have the clones debugged. If it failed the Jedi aren't idiots they'd still plan ahead to move the order to a hidden area of the mid rim to be in a better position to spread throughout the galaxy and build temples in the inner and outer rims of the galaxy to put themselves in a position to exploit what they've learned from the failure and to launch a preemptive strike against Palpatine with fleets of clones and venatars they debugged and to reinstate the Republic after Palpatine transitioned it to the empire.

If we entertain for a minute how the fate hung in the balance and it was not Mace that fell out of the windu, but Sheev. Immediate action would have been called for. I do not think the jedi would take over, they lacked the means to do so. Even the emperor needed the senate in his first years. To govern the republic the senate was instrumental, there was no other bureaucracy that could have been relied upon. But there were emergency protocols that could be enacted for the case that a supreme chancellor was incapacitated. An emergency session could elect a replacement. And that would have been it. The jedi had no more means to govern the republic then Palpatine had. The senators would still be running the state as they had since 22.000 years.

isn't it intriguing that the Jedi became the very thing they were trying to protect everyone else from? Fear of losing their status, their relationship with the republic became their key motivator. Poor indecisive leadership from Yoda . If Windu had acted and failed, the Jedi simply claim he's gone rouge. He wins he prevents order 66 and Sidious loses. But due to fear of what ifs, fear of losing status the Jedi were frozen, thus resulting the a paralysed Jedi Order tinkering on the edge of the darkside. Instead of being bold and doing what they knew to be correct they chose to do nothing, out of fear.

This is just a theory but is it possible that because of the lightsaber form that Mace Windu user's that with that slight opening to the dark side that Palpatine was able to feed Mace the idea of over throught Palpatine and the Senate and by doing so corrupting Mace and by extension the Jedi Council.

Mace couldn't call for a secret council meating. That one would've actually implicated the councill. If he acts alone he implicates only himself. Palpetine being a sith makes the entire plan pretty clear. Create a war, play both sides, being the republic down from inside. Especilly if you considerd it before, but it's either way obvious. It's obvious Palestine has to go right now, that the senate wouldn't listen to Jedi concerns like 'sith-lord' seriously. At least not quickly. It'd be a very long political game. Who the winner isn't clear of. But a winner is clear if Mace kills him now. And if Mace then let's himself be tried by the Senate that's probably the best move [and he was, I think]. The councill won't be implicated, because they wear previously against it and not informed. The order might take a hit, but it's going to be fine long-term.
@coralreeves4276Ай бұрын
If Mace managed to kill Palps the senate would have resented the Jedi. Forget the Clone wars that would break whole Alliances apart especially when influences like the Trade Federation are present. There would be little pockets of rebellion all over the galaxy and a lot of Jedi would end up dead not from Siths or other Force users but from ordinary people who think they were being tyrants. Not to mention the loss of the massive support from the other senators. They'd be viewed as the bad guys and Palps will be giggling in his grave. It was total checkmate.
