I am blown away by Dani’s ability to stay focused for so long. I could not have done that. She never complained, never showed weariness. Honestly, so much respect for how she went at it. And you too, April. You just kept going, and kept encouraging. An awesome day’s work ladies.

I had a friend body double for me on a zoom call. Just having someone to chitchat with made the boredom of the task go away. Plus, I could hold stuff up and ask her whether something was out of style or not. She was going through her own stuff at the same time.
@Lucinda_Jackson10 ай бұрын
My daughter used to be my "facilitator". She'd just keep me going by handing me the next box or bin, emptying the next shelf or drawer, etc and helping sort into piles. She was great about helping me organize the resulting piles every so often so we had space to keep moving forward. She wasn't pushy about keeping anything, but if I hesitated or she felt I was losing focus and beginning to just keep things I didn't really need or care about, she'd ask a question or two to clarify my thoughts and help me get off memory lane and back on focus boulevard again. I miss that. It just occurred to me that she'd learned how from when used to help her in her room and must have internalized it.

It's great to watch someone with ADHD get this kind of assistance. I have ADHD, and periodically I have to hire someone - not an organizer, just someone willing, patient, and pleasant, who needs a few hours work - to help me sort through things - to just be another brain in the room which helps executive functioning in some mysterious way. I have also provided this service for other ADHD people. It must be hard for someone with a brain like April's to understand the nature of the deficits that make this so difficult for someone with a brain like mine and Dani's, but she does a great job. I totally understood why Dani was able to let go of things so readily. I struggle with clutter not because I have any particular interest in keeping the stuff, but because I struggle to see my way through chaos. So, periodically, I hire someone to accompany me through it. You did a great job Dani! You, too, April!

Just because we are fully capable of decluttering and organizing, often the overwhelm is just so real. When I visited my friend in Gothenburg in December 2018, advent stars and led candles were /everywhere/. She said that because it's dark all the time, everyone wants to warm things up. I wanted to get everyone a star for Christmas, but somehow they were impossible to find lol. Finally I found them in a basement store and discovered that they fold down flat, so I was able to buy a whole bunch and fit them in my luggage super easy. In my house, it is almost always on in the front and center living room window!

I think it is so much easier to declutter with support. I have a family member who needs this, too, and we accomplish so much when partnering for support. So, even if Dani is decluttering faster and more thoroughly than other clients, I can see that she is feeding off of your guidance and support, April. She is pacing with you in response to your feedback and Dani is even challenging some of your questions about keeping items (the pillow is a perfect example). That is awesome! Sometimes, doing this solo, we get too into our own heads about it and end up keeping items that we would maybe have decluttered with a support buddy in place. It becomes like a therapy of sorts. It is nice to see this because it gives a lot of us inspiration in a different way and shows that decluttering is not one size fits all and sometimes it just becomes that easy to let it go. Great job to you both!! 💝

Hey! I love this video. It's so inspiring to look at the change this brings to her room and her life I have a suggestion for the room. After the declutter and cleaning is done, maybe all the dressers can be in one line and the clothing rack can be on the right where the vintage chest is. That way she can get a long space above all the dressers for bags Just my suggestion!

Keeping up with Dani is the problem - she's so quickly going through decisions the video was done at a gallop! I agree with Dani, it helps to have someone start and keep you on course - also it's more fun when things get overwhelming and it seems like all you're doing is deliberately making a huge mess. I love the room you're sculpting by moving out what Dani no longer wants or needs - when you panned around at the end I actually physically took in a deep breath of relief at the space opened up 😊
