I reckon the Ferrari 365 Daytona it's always going to be a legend, but the not loved and controversial Ferrari 599 GTO is by far my favorite not only for bringing to the 599xx/ xxevo just really shows the real potential of this road homologation. The noise it's just fantastic the true V12 sound.

The 599GTO is one of my all-time favorite Ferrari's. Along with the 288GTO, F50, 355GTS, 458spyder, and 512TR. I'd definitely buy one now before the value starts to Sky Rocket!!!

That wail of 599 GTO! This is probably the closest a V12 gets to the sound of V10 F1 engines. I've heard it ('saw it' would be a massive overstatement as it zipped past me in split second) once, but I still remember the thrill, the chills, the visceral reaction. I would buy it even if it was flawed in every way. For the sound.

That Daytona beat Miura when its come to reach the speed limit, cause if you push Miura until its limit it'll fly, but if you push Daytona to the limit it'll be faster and faster

One time I was having my 360 spider serviced, there was a Daytona sitting nearby. I asked my Ferrari mechanic what it was like to drive that one? He sounded very unimpressed and said it felt like you were driving a big buggy. As much as I love the design of older Ferrari’s, I’ll take the 599.

Oh ny gosh. The engine note. This is a very nice colour combo 599. Alloys standard but stance so much better than a red GTO. Looks like it has been alloys and skirts. Am I missing something. What are the holes around the headlight on the bumper. Puzzling me. Thanks

The Autocar test Ferrari Daytona in 1971 weighed 1765kg, more than the 1600kg quoted by Ferrari, not 1250kg as stated. The two valve engine and good low down torque provides the go! The original fibreglass Ferrari 308 GTB weighed 1300kg. The Daytona was a heavyweight, so heavier as tested in 1971 than the 599GT0 which weighed 1605kg.

Point well made about the Daytona's stability at high speed. The heavy steering - which is a real pain at parking speeds - comes into its own from about 50 mph upwards. The other joy is that the car is so long-legged. Stick it in third and go from 30 to 100+ in no time at all.

8:21 I know we are talking about a different era, and all the cars are much smaller than newer cars out today. But 1250 kg and calling it overweight by modern standards is absolutely outrageous. 1250 kg is nothing compared to even like a 458. Which will be much more. It’s absolutely zero compared to modern car standard. A Ford Fiesta would weigh more than that. Edit. I’ve just done some checking. 458 comes in curb weight at about 1500 kg. On the 599 GTO comes in at 1600 kg. 1250 is featherweight

I beg to differ slightly REGARDING THAT BLUE DAYTONA (I DROVE ONE OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR ONCE AND SCREAMED DOWN A BEVERLY HILLS STREET..IT WAS SO COOL..I WAS 19..I'M A *VERY GOOD DRIVER)... I think the draw back, for me at least, is the pop up headlights. I had a pretty,new firebird... and it had those type lights ... i barely bumped into a woman's car in front of me..on the clogged, crawling L.A. Freeway.. the Santa Monica Freeway..and we got out and looked...nothing on her bumper. BUT ONE OF MY LIGHTS *WOULDN'T POP BACK DOWN.* YAH. SO... I HAD TO GO THRU ALL THIS MUCK TO FIX IT. THERE WAS NO SCRATCH OR DENT ON EITHER OF OUR CARS. WE WERE GOING SO SLOW.... I BARELY TAPPED HER. ANYHOW...I WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER CAR WITH POP UP- HIDDEN LIGHTS. WHATA MESS. AND PLASTIC BUMPERS ARE BULLSHT. THEY ONLY DID THAT TO HAVE A HUGE AFTER MARKET TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE BUMPER WHEREAS A STEEL BUMPER NEVER MAKE A DENT. SO.... I HATED THAT CHANGEOVER. IT STILL SUCKS. *BUT I DID ABSOLUTELY LOVE TO DRIVE THE DAYTONA.. REALLY GREAT WHEELS!!!* NOW...I *HAVE TO HAVE* A *GTC4 V12 LUSSO*

The 365 GTB is a beautiful car with monster performance BUT, it was not the fastest production car of its time. That honor went to the 1969 Corvette Stingray L88 427. The factory claimed 430bhp, individual dyno's but at 550 bhp 0-100km at 4.5 sec 13.6 sec 1/4 mile and a top speed of 291 km( 181 mph). The Daytona ran 0-100km in 5.5 sec 1/4mile in 13.6 and a top speed of 280km( 174 mph).

Given the nature of your retrospective look, it's absolutely amazing that the run-of-the-mill GTC4 Lusso runs so closely to the 599 GTO, even more so compared to the bread-and-butter 599 Fiorano. Given that the universe of Lusso builds is now closed, and with its pricing fallen like leaves in Fall, the Lusso V12 remains, in my obviously biased opinion, the best of the modern Ferrari.

Having grown up in the 70’s, I loved the Daytona but, the boxer was always my favorite. Mid mounted flat twelve and bulging in arches was much more of an event than the pretty Daytona. As for modern Ferraris, the Enzo does the same as the boxer in appearance whereas the 599 at a glance could be a Toyota. The grey paint doesn’t help.

Daytona engines obviously got tuned in different ways/outputs by different owners/teams, but they were good for 184 down the Mulsanne Straight at Le Mans.

Very nice video. I need that 599GTO my right foot requires it. Daytona never did it for me, always thought it was missing something visually. The 599 looks better than the Superfast to me, but I think the F12 looks better than both recent hyper GT's.

Thanks for the truth about Miura! Daytona along 275 and all 250 series including original GTO, 288 GTO and mighty F40 are my favorite Ferrari, but 599 and subsequent ones to this GTO are testament of elegant, sculpted power coming from Maranello, land of engines God (the one that hold an inverted piston full of Lambrusco, a discutibile wine loved in that area of Italy)!!! Modern Ferrari add to aesthetic aerodynamic function and minimize pollution to nothing plus introduce electronic to let you drive 3 times more power up to "thousand" horsepower, let me mention 458 between the others, always in Ferrari's personal way : as many collectors use to say Porsche and other automakers could be fast, fastest, but no one else car has a soul to connect to as a Ferrari have ! Hope they'll keep this attitude in the forthcoming production with a special eye on Purosangue!!! Freedom everyone!!! Bye

The story I have heard about why the factory did not use the name "Daytona" was a young American journalist was leaked the news Enzo planned on naming it that and wrote about it before the release date sending Enzo into a fit and therefore it was not named the Daytona officialy. Although that could be a fable sounds about right to me though.

The 599 was the most disappointing GTO for me. It lacked something I cant quite work out, it lacked some sort of magic or mystique for me. It just wasnt exotic looking for me. Slowly its starting to appeal to me but there is still a long way to go. Maybe in another 10 years I will grow to appreciate it

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!!!!!

They are both hard to get parts for. The Daytona is a little farm implement under the skin.In typical Italian Fashion , what you see is beautiful , what you don't see. A little crude. The Daytona is getting old I mean the Aluminum of that era decays from the inside out ask any Alfa owner with a porous cylinder head. All Factors , factored in I'd take the modern Ferrari. The Daytona was always a Dream Ferrari. It is better that way 50 years later.

Silly question. one u can use the other is a museum piece. If u had drive the daytona every day u would soon get fed up! unreliable, no power steering, service every 3000 miles. Its ok for a drive out but not for every day use.

1. Is that a Yorkshire accent? Trying to learn how to distinguish between British accents. 2. I've always thought the rear, interior, and sound of the Daytona were very nice, while the front is one of the least attractive ever put on a Ferrari. 3. Shocking to hear that the Daytona is only 1250 kilos. That 599 must be a nightmare in the city. 4. Is it just about as simple as, the 599 GTO is a GTB that can get on and off of meth at a moment's notice?
