Good job kid, my cousin started investing in index ETFs when he was around the same age as you. He used to invest the amount he got as gifts and later from his part time jobs. 6-7 years down the line he has accumulated quite a bit. Don’t take unnecessary risks from what you see on the internet and stick to index funds

You are young and it good you are thinking about this, teach your friends and don't quit. However you are young, don't hold back on life, enjoy as much as you can, money is also a tool, not the only thing to look at. Knowledge and love, kindness and curiosity create our profound experiences and make your life worth it. And sometimes these cost money.

It's funny that you mention quitting smoking by looking at your identity differently. I can personally vouch for this because that's how I quit smoking. Back in 2004 (April 14th, to be exact), I noticed that all the quit-smoking aids (gum, patches, lozenges, etc) all have a 3-month goal, where you scale down your use as you progress. At the end of those 3 months, according to the program, you get to say, "I'm a non-smoker," provided you were successful. I realized that on Day 1, I'm ALREADY a non-smoker! All I have to do then is decide each day to continue my streak so that I can keep saying that. I still used the nicotine gum and some Wrigley's spearmint, but that paradigm shift in my thinking changed everything. All the other times I tried to quit, but when my thinking changed, I succeeded. In 2024, I'll be 20 years nicotine-free. It really works! 👍

I'm 18, saving 1500$/70% of my paycheck every month. Living Home and driving a small cheap diesel van. If I'm om schedule I'm buying a house w/ rental before i turn 20 years old. 1000$ tax free every month will pay off the electricity, internet and mortgage interest... Making the house basically free, adding on to the value going up.

THANK GOODNESS FOR VIDEOS LIKE THIS! A great mindset for learning: REMEMBER The brain learns by repetition.....so learning something new means the brain doesn't know. And therefore learning something you don't know is just 'UNFAMILIAR". The repetition will make the brain comfortable. But 1st its good to rewire how the brain sees learning something new. So SAY THIS TO YOURSELF: "This is hard to do or Learning something new is hard" Then hum ABC song this accomplishing to things its a distraction and whimsical gives a feel good vibe. Repeat 3x's(this literally will start to detach the "hard concept" cause you keep interrupting the pattern More advanced results: think of something you failed to do and so didn't try anymore doing....say to self "such and such was hard and I can't do it, it made me feel (fill in the blank). Then hum ABC song (3x's) If you do this now it will motivate you because the brain will stop automatically giving that message that things you don't know are hard to do.

Nice videos, I'm a new subscriber. The key points of the book are well summarized. The aggregation of marginal gains (#1) is such a fallacy though. Just think about it... it is impossible to have a compounding 1% return on a habit forever. There are always diminishing marginal returns to an action. You will make the easiest 1% change first and then it will become harder and harder to keep finding the extra 1%. Temper your expectations people.
@LisetteZ32 жыл бұрын
Is it though? Say you invest 100 bucks a month now. With this theory, improve next month to 101 bucks, month after that 102,1 etc. How can you keep this up at 200 bucks, 300 bucks etc? Should you take on a side hustle, ask for a raise, cancel your cable subscription? I find it a refreshing way of thinking
@markhnatiuk78572 жыл бұрын
@@LisetteZ3 I don't understand your point. You are cherry picking some nice numbers. Say you make a very good living and you invest 10000 bucks a week now keep increasing by 1 percent per week. In 10 years you will need to invest 1770000. You went from 520000 per year invested to 92 million per year invested. Maybe you should start a side hustle?!?
@LisetteZ32 жыл бұрын
@@markhnatiuk7857 am I the only one cherrypicking? Do you actually invest 10.000 per week or beneath 1000 per month. If the latter, I think it would be more beneficial to you to think about how you can improve 1% per month, even if you don’t let it compound. The mind makes you think more easily how to improve 1 percent than 10% or even 100%. If you want to think about it in a mathematical way, you are totally right. But if you want to think of it in a psychological and practical way, this advise is brilliant to get you moving in the right direction
@LisetteZ32 жыл бұрын
By not making it compound, I mean, if you currently invest 1000 bucks a month, try to add 10 bucks a month and keep it at 10 extra bucks every month. A year from now you will invest 1120 a month which is a lot better than doing nothing and keeping it at 1000
@cassioinvestimentos62612 жыл бұрын
@@markhnatiuk7857 Yeah, because when it comes to beginner investors, everybody starts with $10000 a week. What a great example. Anyone can use dumb examples like that: Starting investing with $1 every day, and increase by 1% every day. By the end of the first year you will be investing ~$37 per day, by the end of the second year you'll be investing ~$1400 *every day*. Make compounding interest work for you, not against you

If someone just started buying say a broad market index like VTI or VTSAX and dollar cost averaged in weekly or monthly, what a world of a difference it would make. $10000 not required... the willingness to start and change mindset along with spending/saving habits, REQUIRED!
