The thing is, you need to know a lot about Jake Gyllenhaal to understand I Bet You Think About Me and that no, it was no satire she really was feeling that way when they were dating. Yes, you are right that Taylor didn't grow up poor by any stretch of the imagination, but Jake was quite literally Hollywood royalty. She was upper middle class growing up but he was rich RICH growing up, he grew up in Beverly Hills and his mother was an actress that had been nominated to an Oscar and then was a successful movie producer, she was besties with Jamie Lee Curtis who called herself "Jake's Hollywood godmother" because she was the one who introduced him and his older sister to the movie scene (yep nepotism at its finest) and he even mentioned in an interview that the PAUL NEWMAN taught him how to drive. And on his father's part well, his family was literally swedish aristocracy (LITERALLY related to the current royal family). Meanwhile, when Taylor dated him was during the autumn that she was releasing Speak Now, and while yes she was the new hot thing that had just won several Grammys, she only had two albums out and was a young country singer that had never experienced that level of VIP access to the upper class circles, as she puts it. So yeah while she has never been poor I do believe the daughter of a banker and a stay at home mum would have felt intimidated visiting California with him (where they went together before she did her Ellen interview) and seeing the level of opulence he grew up with, and if his family's inner circle of friendships growing up included people like Paul Newman and Jamie Lee Curtis I very much doubt they would have felt super impressed with a young Taylor with only two albums out at the moment she visited (which was right before Speak Now)

I definitely agree, I don't think this 10 minute version of all too well was written in 2011, I think she had a VERY rough 15 minute work tape that she revisited while recording folklore/evermore, and pieced some unused lyrics together with new lyrics to form this new version. I mean the last 3 minutes are a dead giveaway of that - the lyrics and melodies are NOT something she was writing 10 years ago. But it's such a masterful piece of art. Like how cool would it be if another artist like katy perry or lady gaga or beyonce went back to a song they wrote 10 years ago and rewrote it to fit their current era 🥲💞

What I think is: she had a “10 minute” song that did NOT sound like that at all in the past and now she’s even more talented than she was she decided to make this masterpiece that we just heard… especially the end of the song really reminds me of the “Folklore” style, so I do believe the inicial song was longer, but I pretty sure she changed some of the lyrics. The “I was never good at telling jokes but the punch line goes: I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age” she couldn’t have written this verse back in the day… only nowdays. But whatever: the song is just * PERFECTION *

More to the point, Jake Gyllenhal has dated women younger and OLDER than him. It's only his current girlfriend that's much younger than him, so no, this was definitely not always written. Although everyone at first listen always misunderstood the "fuck the patriarchy" line. It's totally possible Jake Gyllenhal had a fuck the patriarchy keychain in 20-whatever
@stevievaughan5096 Жыл бұрын
i think what happened is that all too well used to be around 8 minutes which, to be fair, is closer to 10 than it is to 3, or even 5 which is how long it ended up being. she mentioned how it used to be “like 10 minutes long” and everyone kinda ran with the “ten minute version” thing so she felt pressured to make it at least 10 minutes. i think the 10 min version we did get was the original “10 minute version”, ending at the part before “and i was never good at telling jokes”. that part is retrospective and obviously couldn’t have written that part AT 21/22. in the short film we see sadie as taylor for the entire time EXCEPT when that part of the song comes on, now cutting to older, wiser, ginger taylor, where she’s telling her all too well story in the form of a book/memoir and not a song. this to me feels very intentional, like ‘hey this is my point of view on it now’. the runtime obviously still wasn’t 10 minutes so she created a long outro which just so happens to fit the vibe and intensity of the song. anyway sorry for that novel

Stan blondie but you can’t deny that yes 100% correct, she didn’t take her time with some of the songs. I know for a fact she didn’t considering some of the vocals were recorded in Belfast, and it was only 3 months before the album came out that she was there. It’s funny because folklore was an album where all the creators were apart but you’d never think it, but I’ve a gut feeling she probably did vocals and sent them off to someone who was producing.

Unpopular opinion: I love the new Girl at Home (as well as the original). It's so fun and brings a unique life to a song that kinda blends in with other (better) stuff on Red (I Almost Do, ATW, SBT, etc), which was the issue with the original. And being the closing song on the deluxe edition (not including SoG acoustic, which I think is fair considering it's just another arrangement of a song already on the album), it seemingly marks a direct line between Red and 1989 in sound.
@ZeroOhClock Жыл бұрын
I didn't listen to the original of that song (didn't have the deluxe). I went back and...yeah the original is boring compared. I don't like EDM usually and yet it brings so much to that song. Like they're speaking to each other in a club in the new version. Gives the song a proper setting.

I agree with you in that i don't think she necessarily had the entirety of the atw 10 minute version made in 2010/11 but I do think a lot of it was written in the way she says. I think that Taylor was much more image-conscious then and while she might've written a lot of this at the time, maybe didn't feel that she could use all of it. I mean she was 21... we saw her as a saint and for the most part I'm sure she was. But that's how she wanted to be seen. She definitely could've still written 'fuck the patriarchy' for example.

My biggest issue is why the fuck they don't use real instruments??? Jack and Aaron how to play guitar. like why are they using these synths on songs that used guitars?? WHY?!?! Your reaction to Message In A Bottle!!! wow. so funny. this song is so bad. it's literally a Disney song. Holy Ground doesn't sound the same. it sounds slower! All in all I agree with you. the re-recordings of the old songs sound unfinished. like something missing with the production AND layered vocals. there aren't any layered vocals! it happened in Fearless TV as well with You Belong With Me. her vocals sound so upfront. like she recorded them so close to the mic. so it seems she ruins her biggest hits. I wonder if the changes in the beginning of the songs are so that Big Machine wouldn't be able to claim they did a copycat of the master recordings...

Taylor writing about being a simple farm girl is kind of like Johnny Cash writing song after song about being in jail and on death row. Yes she lived on a Christmas tree farm - there's truth in that but the work she did was pulling the eggs of bugs out of the tree trunks. But she had a whole attic to herself and her house was the envy of every other kid that knew her. But I love her and her way of bending the narrative for artistic license. Taylor is very good at painting herself Relatable.

"Why are they so different in the beginning?" So, I think she purposefully put something in all of them so that we can't listen to old songs mixed with new ones lmao I TRIED making a playlist of the new versions but with a few old versions (wanegbt, for example), and they sound like they come from different studios. So I can't pick and choose the versions I like best without a scare jump, I have to commit either to OG or TV. We can't get the best of both worlds. She is so evil.

But I was a swiftie for her, not her music. I'm just gonna be totally honest. But this video turned me around. Especially when you listened to 22. I am now a swiftie through and through haha. I will always remember this day! lol I'm so happy I found your channel

Ok I'm low key getting emotional to her doing "never getting back together" cause I feel like it's her singing for her younger self. I honestly agree with you that it's not 100%, but it's so sweet that she's re-living and hopefully healing a little doing this. No matter how happy we were, we all need to heal our younger self a little

Here are some actual timelines and facts. Taylor & Harry met at the KCAs on March 31, 2012. Taylor attended a country music awards show in Las Vegas on April 1st. 1D were in NYC April 2-7 rehearsing and performing on Saturday Night Live. 1D were in Australia by April 10, doing interviews before their Australian leg of their tour. It was around April 22/23 that pictures of the Harry & Emma Ostilly kiss came out. Therefore, according to this timeline, "Message in a Bottle" and "Come Back Be Here" could be about Harry if they were written in April. But "The Very First Night" is very doubtful to be about Harry. That one is about Jake because it's about a longer relationship. Taylor wants to go back to the beginning of the relationship when everything was good. It doesn't fit the Harry timeline at all. Taylor re-uses words and phrases all the time, especially from songs that were never released. Taylor and Harry didn't officially start dating until that fall (Oct/Nov). Taylor was done writing for Red in June 2012, even though it wasn't released until October. She's not writing songs about Harry the week before the album's release and including them on the album. It doesn't work like that. The album is usually done a few months before its release.

Fuck the patriarchy, I guess. I wouldn’t have any issues with ATW10mins if Ms Swift were just a bit more honest about it’s origins. I feel like it would have been totally fine for her to present it as ATW(extended); a mixture of the original, some lines/verses that were cut, and some reflections on that relationship 10 years on. I’m not sure how she expected us to believe that story she told on Jimmy Fallon, with her essentially writing the whole thing impromptu, in a single 10-15 minute session, and the sound guy happened to record it on a mystery CD never seen or heard of again, until now. I mean really. I noticed her explanation of the 10min version was scaled back quite a bit when she appeared on Seth Myers.
@LaurenLaass2 жыл бұрын
I’m glad I’m not the only one who was suspicious of her describing the birth of the og ATW10 on Fallon. The lyrics in the song point to her writing it more recently.

The real tea I got from ATW10min was that Gyllenhaal was the first boyfriend Scott Swift actually approved of. And then he treated her like shit. I think Taylor throwing in ‘fuck the patriarchy’ is her way of unpacking her ongoing dad issues. It’s clear that, as much as she craves approval and adulation from everyone, she especially needs male approval - this is clear from looking at her male vs female friendships and collaborations. I think that this need goes back to wanting to impress her dad and needing more of his approval than she received. Can relate. 😢

@@theswiftologist I’m still working through this train of thought haha. I’m also thinking that what made this breakup especially difficult was that Taylor’s parents were going through their divorce around this time. Taylor would have been working through the reality that her parents’ relationship was not a fairytale she probably once believed it was, as well as competing loyalties to Scott and Andrea, and perhaps feeling some misplaced guilt that Andrea and Taylor touring without Scott contributed to her parents’ relationship breakdown. I also think there might have been some similarities between Scott and Jake, which Taylor would then have had to process. I might be reading too much into some of this. But I think if you connect the dots, we’re getting a much clearer picture as to why this particular relationship fucked her up so much.
@wickywicky38112 жыл бұрын
I don't think that phrase is said by her, it's implied it's either Jake or the keychain in his car keys, but not her. I think she's describing an argument they had and her probably calling out his bs.
