0:26 THANK YOU, THANK YOU for listing the films/TV shows AT THE BEGINNING!! I hate when video essays begin with "Spoiler Alert", but then don't warn you of what titles will be spoiled BEFORE they talk about it on-screen.

I find the "Unreliable Narrator" plot fascinating, since you can't believe everything that your narrator says, and they might not know what is real themselves. It's tough to pull off convincingly, but it works when done well, a la "Gone Girl."
@alexwixom45995 күн бұрын
It challenges our assumptions of Authority. That's why it hits so good 😅

I don't think Gone Girl has an unreliable narrator. She pretty much tells us from the start her devious plan. She's reliably truthful to the audience.

The "Dead All Along" twist can be easy to guess, especially if a certain character only wears one outfit, or is seen interacting with one individual. "The Sixth Sense" pulled it off spectacularly, by setting scenes up in particular ways, that you might not realise until the big reveal.

A good twist should always add to the story. This is why an unnecessary plot twist takes away from the stakes rather than reinforcing them.

I love the gag in The Good Place where Jason figures it out. Like how badly was that world set up?

In my high school English class, we were warned against using the "It was only a Dream" twist for our essays, since it not only comes across as cheap and lazy, but renders the entire plot pointless.
@BatAmerica5 күн бұрын
The only time it works is when the twist is foreshadowed and reinforces the themes of the story such as The Wizard of Oz.

That "forking" twist was everywhere! I couldn't escape it no matter where I was online. Even when they didn't spoil it, Kristen Bell's expressions from the same scene were on countless thumbnails! It was like the new "Sixth Sense" or "Oldboy"! But at least it got me to watch the show which is even better than people hyped it up to be!

I really like the Lego Movie plot twist. It was hugely surprising in the sense that it changed even the "type of movie statu quo", but it made perfect sense and there was just the right amount of foreshadowing.

Why does NOBODY talk about the movie "The Hunt"? That movie was so good about keeping you on your toes. It had at least 2 significant twists you talked about in here, especially the one at the beginning where you think you know who the story is following.

I think my favourite twist of all time is the end of the first season of _Mulberry_ , starring Karl Howman and Geraldine McEwan. It's what made John Esmonde and Bob Larbey my favourite screenwriting duo. It's the kind of twist that leads you up the garden path, giving you enough clues to know something's up, but in such a way that you come to the wrong deduction. It's also the kind of twist that makes me appreciate re-watching the series, spotting details I'd missed before. _Mulberry_ is such a good series.

I will forever be pissed that my audiobook player either glitched or the chapters were out of order in the files it switched between Amy and Nick chapters, and I thought it was just hiw it was normally read. While still a great book, I definitely feel robbed of one of the greatest holy shit moments in modern writing

A lot of the twists have been spoiled to me lol but I think what makes a good twist is one where you can go back and rewatch with the knoelwledge of the twist and it enhances the viewing experience like the Good Place season 1 is a good example of that. Dallas was before my time and haven’t seen the original but I’ve heard fans sometimes wish they could Bobby Ewing tv seasons they don’t like some fans wanted s6 of Gilmore girls cause they don’t like Lor/chris but I don’t want it cause I like the Rory/logan and the elder grandparents in that season

3:22 - Not quite sure why you used a clip from Buffy to illustrate your point at this moment? It's not a soap opera, and Dawn wasn't a "secret family member" in the way you're implying!

One Night in Soho did 'alive all along'. The clues were there, and there was no deus ex machina, but I found I empathized too much with the killer, not the victims!

I'm questioning if it's congestion, bad editing, or AI voiceover trained from the hundreds of videos The Take has made that wasn't quite ready for prime time.

And for the last gotdamn time: NO, THEY WERE NOT DEAD IN LIMBO AT THE END OF LOST. Everything that happened, happened. A lot of the so-called "plot holes" people point to are really them not watching every season/episode, forgetting things, and then getting upset over it. Lost had a lot of fantastic plot twists and the series did them all really well.

Was it really that hard to name the wonderful Spanish director, Amenabar, when citing The Others? You did name the directors for Gone Girl and The 6th sense which were in the same category... For the record, Amenabar wrote the script for the Others in his uni days, thats way before Shyamalan released his opera prima, which dampened the success of the Others
