Yes, they are actually called "The imperial Klingon Empire" which makes them twice as imperial as the Romulan Star Empire, but less starry.
@DrForrester873 жыл бұрын
Just in case anyone has an issue, Qo'noS (pronounced Qohh-Nosh) is how the Klingon home world is pronounced in established Klingonese. Why did the older shows not use it? Simple: they didn't have the budget to get a Klingon language coach to sift over every line and make sure the actors were pronouncing it right. And for something that was hardly ever used for more than a word or two at a time, it didn't really make a huge difference.

Klingon are a Soviet Union analogo in TOS 1966 series but their culture with Honor warriors and feudalism and nobility like German Empire or Imperial Japan
@KingOfMadCows7 жыл бұрын
Klingons also don't extend their beliefs about honor to other races. The Federation has helped the Klingon Empire many times, saving them from civil war more than once, and possibly even prevented their extinction after Praxis. But the Klingons always forget or willfully ignore this aid and continuously return to a state of hostility with the Federation.
@dparky16276 жыл бұрын
I love how Worf constantly spoke about how humans didn't understand concepts of honor. Maybe he meant Klingon honor. He should've been specific. A lot of Earth cultures put great stock in honor, well into the 23rd and 24th centuries I'd imagine. Japan and the old samurai code easily comes to mind.
@samronin11416 жыл бұрын
I am not sure Japan and Samurai would still be any real thing by that point honestly. WW3 and the Eugenics wars that saw Khan rule most of the Earth were pretty devastating. And although we see it being really common now, Japan itself had pretty much set aside and forgotten the Samurai before WW2. It was during the war that Japan needed to bolster the zeal of their armies and sought out ways to inspire them. That was when they really brought back ideas around Bushido and using it drive their forces at the time. But yes Klingon Honour from outsides can be fickle and almost seem to fall into the "That was then, what have you done for me today" trope. The longer lasting alliance with the Federation being inspired by the loss on the Enterprise C trying to fight off the Romulans for instance. Ultimately the Federation and Klingons are very distinct and although willing to begrudge one another, they do have their limits. Such as whether one will side with the other in a battle. SF Debris made an interesting point about having Internal and External Honour. How someone views themself and how others view them and their honour. So when Worf stands against Gowron he is doing it for his sense of his own personal internal code of honour. But doing so disgraces him in the eyes of Gowron and those aligned with him. So losing him External Honour. Star Trek Online also plays into this. The species 8472 aka Undine in that timeline start using infiltrators to sneak into and break up the Alpha powers. The Klingons find and kill theirs before it can cause too much trouble. When they try to warn the Federation they are ignored. When they try to talk to you as a new player you brush them off and a fight breaks out. Things lead to another spate of war which only ends when another greater threat pushes them back together to face the return of the Iconians. The Klingons were actually correct in the STO timeline but because they are ignored or seemingly pushed aside they break off the Khitomer Accords and new hostilities follow.
@dparky16276 жыл бұрын
Sam Ronin, I was just trying to bring up a historical viewpoint. The blanket statements that Worf has sometimes made that humans don’t understand honor are bunk. Doesn’t Starfleet have honor as a core value? The honor of the fleet, conducting oneself in an honorable way, etc. That may not be the same as Klingon sense of honor, but honor is to be expected in a war fighting force. Now, I understand that Starfleet is an exploratory fleet, not a true war fighting fleet. They have ships for diplomacy and exploration that just happen to be armed and armored (although one could argue not that well). Although post-Deep Space Nine and Nemesis we might see a shift toward having true warships. Unlikely, but possible.

Listen. Strange Klingon's sitting next to lava pools distributing bat'leth's is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical tectonic ceremony. You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some rebellious tart threw a bat'leth at you! I mean, if I went around, saying I was an emperor, just because some sweaty bint had lobbed a bat'leth at me, they'd put me away! Ah, now we see the violence inherent in the system!

The Heart of Virtue, wherein each of the three blades represents a key belief upon which the foundation of Klingon society is built. You should check it out. Since everyone is arguing over this. Here’s the info you need regarding how to actually pronounce Kronos. Kronos is the English/Federation translation. Qo’noS is the original Klingon name. Q is like a q mixed with the ch in Bach. It’s a guttural, well articulated back of the throat noise. One of the harder noises to get in Klingon that you don’t find in English. o is pronounced like the o in mosaic ‘ is a glottal stop, Klingons consider this a letter just as important as the others. All it means is to shorten the vowel before or after it. If you don’t, you might accidentally say QonoS (journal) which would confuse/insult whichever Klingon you’re talking too. n like the n in sunspot S like the sh in shine By the end it should sound something like: kkho-nosh
