Paul Williams was the secret sauce for the 1960s Temptations -- his husky, smoky voice was part of those wonderful backing vocals on all of their classic hits. HIs best three lead vocals were "I Want a Love I Can See", "Don't Look Back", and "For Once In My Life" -- wish he had done more, but just be thankful for what we've got, right?

Paul Williams is my favorite member of The Temptations. Many great artists have had alcohol problems. Just as many everyday people do. Unfortunately, it's not enough to tell someone to quit drinking. It's not that easy for them to do. There is a pain deep down that drives them to take refuge. I don't think there were as many ways to get help back then. Thank goodness, we can still enjoy the music and videos of the original Temptations, and see Paul dancing and singing and looking so great in those beautiful suits. I love when he sang: I Want a Love I Can See. RIP Paul.

Paul's mournful baritone wailing out front, gave as much of a solid lead voice to the sound of The Classic Five, as did Ruff's and E.K's. Another reason why that David Ruffin and the Temptations nonsense was ill-fated from the very beginning. Your reference to the Copa must be in regards to the "Live At The Copa" LP, recorded in late '67 right after the breakup, and issued in early 1968. That was indeed a showcase for just how strong Paul's influence was on the group's legacy, sound, and harmonies. Listen closely to I Could Never Love Another, and you clearly hear his third part voice below Otis and Eddie, and above Melvin's, anchoring that sweet harmony throughout the background. One of my all time favorite releases. I think of him every time I listen to it. Man, what I wouldn't give to see a video taped presentation of that performance; the smooth choreography, the stylish uniformity, and the chemistry created each time you brothers took the stage. In this case, it affirmed that the Tempts had moved on from the age of the Classic Five, and were entering into what would become their future era of sound. If such a video exists, and if it's available, please lobby Motown for its immediate release. Rest In Peace Paul, E.K., Ruff', Blue, and also Dennis. Your voices will still be heard long after we're all gone. Thank you Otis, for keeping the name and the brand alive and well in 2021, through this and other outets. Continued good health and happiness to you my brother.

I believe if They had balanced out the lead singers and not just give majority of leads to David his ego would not be so big at that time.
@bustabass9025
@bustabass9025 3 жыл бұрын
@@antoniatilley2589 Unfortunately, his ego was way out of control despite the number of songs he led. David Ruffin was an extraordinarily gifted and talented singer and showman. His voice rivaled Sam Cooke's as the sweet sound of gospel twinged soul music, following Sam's untimely demise. Couple that with a raging case of narcissism, fan adulation, drugs, and a generational curse of having to be in control of everything you're involved in, and you have a patented recipe for complete self-destruction. Rest in peace Ruff'. You could have done so much better. 🎤👓🎩👞

Hi Mr.. Williams (or, Otis if I may)-- It is SUCH a profound pleasure to hear your voice and engage with you given your legendary status as well as of the magnificent Temptations. I was but a toddler during your rise to fame but your sound and the feelings it evoked are cemented in my soul. Lately, I've been consumed with everything "Temptations-related" and just recently purchased your [revised] book on audio. As a musician myself, one of the things I'm most keenly interested in is the actual recording process in the early Motown years. I've seen some archival footage and I find it hard to imagine that so many musicians could record so efficiently (let alone fit) in a room so small without audio leakage. The tune I'm most interested in knowing about is "Since I Lost My Baby" with it's orchestration, layered vocals and instrumentation. I'm hoping to find the info in your book. I too, was a big fan of Paul WIlliams. His vocal timbre and tone along with his seemingly mellow personality made him endearing to me. Such a tragic loss.

I love the way The Temptations dressed back in the 60s. Tall, sleek and handsome. Thanks to The Ed Sullivan Show KZbin in HD. I can watch them in HD, so vibrant and lively. It feels like I'm in the 60s, time travelled.

"Paul Williams sounds like Paul Williams" Thats from a man who knows alot of Pauls and Williams but Only 1 Paul Williams !!

Paul had the voice and showmanship; he was a natural choice for a front man. How was he so easily supplanted in that role by David Ruffin? They both seem equally talented and mesmerizing to hear and watch, but Ruffin's arrival seems to have pushed Paul Williams into the background inexplicably. Why? How did that happen?

Love Paul the Temptations was my favorite group. Eddie high falsetto n Melvin low Bass. Paul's soulful baritone. And Paul was the best dancer. I was a little boy in the 60's.. watching the Temps on TV

IT would be great IF Mr. Otis Williams would do a weekly short post on different events & life experiences about the different people he worked with ex. Florence Ballard, James Jamerson, Marvin Gaye etc. I guarantee it would be a hit !!!!!!!! We love you Mr. Williams, hope to have an opportunity to meet him one day.
