I’m not saying the range extender is a good or bad idea but one trick tesla may be playing is that it gets the cyber truck under the $80,000 mark for the $7500 rebate and later you can get the range extender as an add-on. If they had added all those batteries in From the beginning, the base price will be over 80 and you can’t get the rebate. 🤔

Still waiting on that solar tonneau cover. Even if it only maintains current state of charge, it would be great to have so the battery doesn't die in long-term parking with no charger. Direct charge from solar would be amazing too - a lot of fold out panels would fit in that bed.

If they don't come out with a solar tonneau cover anytime soon, there will likely be an aftermarket solution where you can retract the tonneau cover and then slide in and lock 3 or 4 full sized panels into the tonneau grooves. It would all be manual work but it would be fine if you park the truck long term plus all the stuff underneed in the bed would be somewhat theft-resistent.

Yeah ofcourse the add ons are more expensive than you could get off brand. But for some of the people willing and able to lay down 100k for the most expensive version of the truck these prices are not really a problem and they like having the branded versions of things also knowing they will work well with the truck they bought. For Tesla it is mostly branding and adding margins to their truck. The same things happen with other brands as well, I would expect nothing less from a strong brand like Tesla.

Are you being compensated by Tesla for your remarks? You mentioned it's a 'community favorite' and that 'many Cybertruck owners have been anticipating this.' How can you make such statements when the Cybertruck was released only two weeks ago? It seems like your opinions might be influenced by financial incentives.
AAA should think about the Cybertruck as their roadside assistance vehicle for other BEVS. With a range extender and with the NEMA 14-50 outlet and carrying a NACS and J1772 charger on board will allow them to rescue anyone who runs out of charge. The bed carries all the tools for flats and the vehicle is a beast when it comes to tugging people out of snow or mud.

Instead of being extended battery, someone needs to come out with a gas powered generator that fits in that spot. That way you can drive across the country. And be flexible at the same time. Or if you’re out in the wilderness, you don’t have to worry about plugging in. I’ve always been a fan of the Chevy Volt (not the Bolt), because even though it’s an electric car it has a built-in, gas powered generator for back up. As opposed to a Toyota Prius Where majority of the time you’re using the gas powered engine. There is no gas powered engine with a Chevy Volt.

Lets say with a range extender you can get 470 miles. Most of 4x4 drivers know with full accessories and offroad driving you will lose half of your fuel efficiency. So that 470 mile range can easily be 300 mile range. Lets say you go to someplace remote, that only gives you 150 mile distance one way because you need another 150 to drive home. 150 miles is like going nowhere.
