It bothers me when people call patients a coward or a baby, both in video and in the comments. Local anesthesia hurts for 2 reasons. The first is the physical needle piercing the skin. The second is the burning pain of the anesthesia (and adrenaline if included) itself. The anesthesia medication burns for a few seconds before it "mutes" the pain signal that the nerves in the area send to the brain. Finger tips, palms and soles of the hands and feet, the face, the breasts, and the genitoanal regions are REALLY highly innervated areas and very sensitive. Local anesthesia injections in those areas hurt. Some people can not suppress their reflex reaction to the pain. Others may have an additional phobia of needles that compounds the perception of the injection pain. :(
@ancientsgate4 жыл бұрын
I know you said face, but specifically gum tissue is very sensitive as well. Dental local anesthesia can be pretty ouchy, but luckily, the numbness sets in almost immediately, just as it did here on this poor unfortunate's foot.

I totally agree. Boy is it easy to sit on the side and say crap when you are not getting stabbed with a needle. The bottom of the foot must be so painful. This guy did awesome.
@cheshirekatt99884 жыл бұрын
My podiatrist is awesome, she uses a cold numbing spray highly concentrated on where shes putting the needle and it works, you dont feel the needle at all, I did feel the burning a little bit but since I wasnt in pain she was able to work fast and numb the toe quickly so I didnt even feel the burning that much or very long
@mannys91304 жыл бұрын
@@cheshirekatt9988 Yep, ethyl chloride cold spray is nice to distract and suppress the pain from the initial injection and the burning of the local taking effect. I'm not sure why Jonathan doesn't use it; surely he has a reason.

I had l to have a Steroid injection into my heel...there was no preparing me for the pain...just are you ready and ram that needle straight up underneath my heel... I even had one kid that came by from time to time for me to remove a splinter long after he’d gone off to elementary school and was no longer attending my daycare! So I'm watching this with no sound and thinking wow, that old guy has a LOT of features that my dad did. Uncanny, but our great, great, etc grandparents came from the Red River Valley in what is now called Canada, so maybe we're related! Then I realized it's a filter when I saw that young hand. 🙄

I stepped on a spool of sewing thread barefooted when I was an early teen. There was a needle stuck through the paper label. It pierced my heel and snapped off leaving about 1/4 inch behind. Thinking not much of it I walked on it for several months. Finally I complained and my parents took me to a surgeon who first xrayed the area and confirmed it was there. One neat little slice late he pulled it out with tweezers. What a great relief !

When I had my toenail done they stuck the needle through the tips of my toes down the length of it. Not like you do it. What you did to him looked 10 times worse than mine and mine was scream worthy. Whew. Glad you got him taken care of.

Sandi Morris I had 5 nails removed in 2 sessions, and they stuck the needles in both the top and the sides. I would rather give birth again, without an epidural, than go through that again. Ouch!!!

I know EXACTLY how that poor guy feels! One New Year's day a long time ago, I walked on a sewing needle that was sticking up in a crevice on the floor. My foot went forward, and the needle broke off in my foot! The stupid doctor didn't believe that it was in there, at first. Then it started swelling up, and he sent me for x-rays, sure enough, there was the needle. I had to go to the hospital to get it cut out. The darn needle (right about where this guy's injury is) to freeze it hurt a hell of a lot more than the broken one! My mom heard me screaming way down the hall in the waiting room. I almost kicked the doctor in the face lol What a nightmare that was, and then it got infected to boot. Yeah, was a great start to a new year!

I had a bone spur in my heel. That long needle going thru the side of my foot was one of the most painful things I've ever had to do.
