The upshot is, is that you have your best friend and protector with you! Safe travels!

He comes with some extra responsibility but we wouldn't do it any other way. Gotta have your dog. In fact we chose this kind of travel so that he could come with us without having to ride in anymore planes in his older age.

We have an old dog. At 16 years old, he holds down his bed, eats once in a while and goes out. Pretty much does what he wants. Just like old people... Safe travels.

So glad the doggie is doing better, Dogs dont handle pain well. Some hide it well, but some its demeanor the older they get. Also Glad to see you upgraded to BFG All terrain K02. Perfect overlanding tire

Beer in Belize is a monopoly and the family that owns the brewery persuaded the government (!) to ban foreign imports. So you’d prefer Dos Equis? No such luck. Great videos. Oldies but as good as any on the subject and better than most.

Hello guys just wondering Do you leave the air on in the truck when you leave jager in the truck? Can’t wait to get to Costa Rica videos I’m going in February and Nicaragua also
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal5 жыл бұрын
We generally don't leave the AC on if neither one of us is in the car since we don't want to leave the car running while we are away. What we do is put up a shade that covers the windshield, open the rear windows and shut a dirty town or t-shirt in the door on the sunny side of the car to shade that window too. And leave him with a bowl of cold water. We park in the shade if that is an option of course. There has been a few times at shopping centers where we were worried about it being too hot and one of us stayed in the truck with the AC on for the dog, but not often. Hope you have a great trip!

Vets are expensive in Belize and I'm sorry u couldn't see the beauty in Hopkins.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal6 жыл бұрын
The vet wasn't cheap, but not any more than we would have spent ing the USA, so we shouldn't complain too much. As far as Hopkins goes... I'm wondering if we were there the wrong time of year or something. Is December the wrong time to go to mainland Belize? The water out around Cay Caulker was beautiful and clear, but everywhere we went on the mainland was murky with sediment.
@shawncea95916 жыл бұрын
The Traveling Together Journal Yeah you were at Hopkins on the wrong time of the year, trust me its more beautiful than what you guys saw.

We brought our cat on our move to Costa Rica, it was some what of a hassle but im glad he hasnt had to go to the vet!! Scary! ..awesome video guys!
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It was scary, but good to get him into a vet that spoke English so we were confident we understood what was going on.

Geriatric care of a dog can be difficult especially when they lose their mobility and are in pain. Everywhere you go just keep in mind the nearest vet for the sake of pain control. Sad to see his pain..

We stocked up big on pain management drugs when they were cheap and kept him on a steady routine. Turns out Walmart sales lots of "prescription" drugs with bulk discount and with out a prescription in Mexico.

So, when you crossed the Caves Branch River, driving to Belmopan, if you had looked to the right, that 50 acres with 1/3 rd mile Riverfront wa our property where we thought we would Retire to. There are caves, huge trees and wildlife galore, but the lawlessness and high costs for just about everything lead us back to Mexico to stay . It sure was nice to see how beautiful it is .
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal6 жыл бұрын
It is a beautiful area and not too far from lots of other cool stuff like hiking, waterfalls, and ocean even. It does sound like a lot of lawlessness as you get closer to the Guatemalan border though.

Thanks for taking the time. Life is for the living, right? Don't know how much time any of us has, so we better pack in as much adventure as we can while we can.

It is awesome to see a new video from you 2. I am so sorry about Jaeger. However it does seem that you have his condition at hand, and I am so thankful. I can offer a bit of advice, and experience that might help with Jaeger and his pain management. I have rescued big dogs for quite some time, focusing on Great Pyrenees; of which they live to around 10 years. I have sadly buried 3 canine companions these last 7 years and let me tell you it never gets an easier. But I'm sure that you will not have to think about this for some time. As far as Glucosamine and Condroiton and MSM; I have alot of experience administering this supplement to my geriatric canine companions. I used to buy food with Glucosamine and Condrotin added in, and it was very expensive. However; I talked to a well know old timer veternarian; that told me to go to WalMart or my nearest pharmacy and just get Human versions. As it is way less expensive. Also I have found thru again much experience that You will Need all 3 of Glucosamine Condroiton/ and MSM . I have found that without the MSM the Glucosamine and Condroiton does not work nearly as effective. I kept my Monty dog alive I know at least 4 more wonderfully very good quality of life years; just by giving him his daily "Glucosamine/Condroiton/MSM"-- human variety supplement -- that I would buy at WalMart. My Veternarian friend also told me that not too worry about administering too much Glucosamine Codroiton/MSM; because we humans and also canines will only absorb so much, and when such a limit is reached; then their systems will just expel the extra. Now we all realize not to go overboard; but it is comforting that finding the exact dosage level is safer than we might expect. Trial and Effect; is what it will take to find the correct amount that Jaeger, or any other canine companion might need to help alleviate their pain levels. I hope that this Information might help you or anyone else that so happens to read this. I can swear and attest to the fact that Glucosamine/Condroiton/MSM will work wonders on your older Canine Companion Dogs. Give Jaeger a big hug for me now, and we all look forward to more "Traveling Together Journal" starring "Jaeger"-----adventures.

Thanks Quinton. We've kept him on a steady diet of Costco food (says it has unspecified amount of glucosamine) as well as human glucosamine supplements since Belize. Oh, and hotdog full of painkillers ; ) He's slow and shaky but he still gets around when he feels like it.

Jagger looks hot, get him a bag of ice and wrap it with a towel and let him lay on it. I had to do that for my Golden when he was panting like that. Pain would cause that panting too. Interesting bush behind you at the end.
@TheTravelingTogetherJournal6 жыл бұрын
He has spent a lot of time being hot lately. He likes it when we wet his ears and put ice in his water. I think he also likes the truck because we'll point an AC vent at him when we drive. The bush is bamboo

@TheTravelingTogetherJournal6 жыл бұрын
Albert, I appreciate your concern, but he actually likes traveling. As long as we are out camping, he gets to roam around and get small amounts of activity throughout the day and there are always new smells and car rides, which he loves. He's just a 14 year old dog and getting old can be tough.
