Go check out the facts about the landlords of Punjab both in India and Pakistan and see the lands where they got it from, there are many books written on it with historical records from British museum like Ishtiaq Ahmed's Punjab: Partioned cleansed, Hardit Singh Malik book on Independent India and Punjabi jatt etc. Go read the history before making a fool out of yourselves

Punjab Gets MSP for Rice and Wheat, however due to accumulated debt largely due to Power sector, the state Govt pays back Rs 18,000 Crore in interest payments each year to central agencies etc plus Punjab's water level has gone down leading to cancer in rural areas. Revolution was for India , it has been a slow poison for Punjab. Central govt should encourage MSP on lentils which India imports from Canada. Switch away from Rice cultivation asap in Punjab.

One suggestion, if possible, you could brief your guest to answer questions in such a manner which makes it easy for the listener to understand. Soyabean can be grown in lieu of Paddy because its season is same as that of a paddy. Secondly, it can be used as an oilseed to extract oil and as an Dal (Pulses). Both of these food items are imported. Additionally , Punjabi kids are protein deficient.

Well said about paddy growth, by calling all the Agricultural Unions and discussing about the problem of water and water-table , the government should have banned the growth of paddy. I have been listening to these issues for over 20 years now. A few things which come to mind. Hypothetically should Punjab still desist from Paddy if 100% area is converted to DSR? Then Paddy would have no effect on Ground water depletion and it becomes just another monsoon season crop. Solves both problems of farmer assured income as well as food security. Secondly despite having huge respect for the Panelist’s, I wish for some fresh blood. Maybe some younger economists can be added on and some new solutions might emerge. Thirdly, when state goes broke then the solution lies not only in reducing costs ie all the noise about subsidy but a better solution lies in increasing income of the state ie state owned Liquor, Mining and Long distance public transportation businesses. If the income of the state goes up then all the noise about subsidies goes silent.

India should advise west to give more visas to jatts so that they are settled in west. India must bring Sikh Population to 20-25% of Punjab. Yes 20-25% Sikhs will be problem but they will export themselves out. Punjab should be Christian and Hindu state. Time will come when Gurudwaras will be empty and Hindus will be taking care of Gurudwaras. Sikhism was An Experiment by Strong Khatri Hindus but Sikhism failed this experiment and so Sikhism will finish in next 100 years.

Simple solution is there. Let Centre announce a National Subsidy kitty and allocate subsidy to each state equitably. States can allocate their share of subsidy (within the broad contours of a subsidy policy) in whichever sector be it for power, or input subsidy or MSP subsidy or whatever. An interview in which Jyoti Malhotra interrupts to prevent truth from emerging. Punjab gained a lot due to rest of India financing the Bhakra Nangal Project ( at the expense of the development needs of rest of India) and later supported Punjab in the green revolution by giving seeds, technology and exceptionally high prices in the MSP. Decades of such support has led Punjab to develop a beggar mentality that I always asks for more money. Punjab’s problems are caused by its internal issues and politics. Another bout of aid by the Centre ( this necessarily means less funds to other more deserving states) will solve nothing

Just add to the point of salaries , the salary of a post is determined by the education level of the post and nature of the work, with the increased need of higher analytical, reasoning and communicationnal skills for clerks who has become primitive cog of the administration administration graduation has become the benchmark for the post same as doctors and engineers so the argument of paying one set of graduates on the expense of the others seem absurd. Haryana and western UP were also chosen for same purpose the problem was Punjab never overcame the transition from agriculture to higher industrial sectors!! Haryana diversified its economy with Gurgaon as IT and financial services hub and now see how much revenue just one district is contributing to Haryana’s economy!! Similarly UP diversified into many sectors and still doing the likes of Kanpur Noida Meerut all came as major business hubs! On contrary Punjab never came over it’s agricultural hierarchy now blame it on militancy period, or lack of govt vision to facilitate new industries with subsidies or grants instead they continued and increased subsidies to farmers even by taking loans now we are in a mess with mass migration and low industrial base and farm Unions opposition to any land reforms

@@ninderkaurdhindsa8656 You might be right but till the early 1980’s Punjab cities like Ludhiana Jalandhar were all did better in industrial growth and economic prosperity than Haryana as a whole, but ever since the economic liberalization in 1990’s the state govts of Punjab never initiated any reforms to attract investment of new industries like IT Telecom Pharmaceuticals Organic and Inorganic chemicals automobiles and industrial parts etc which became the growth engine of Indian economy for next 25 years on contrary all govts supported subsidies on diesel, electricity fertilizer and most importantly the MSP and farmers income support all by taking huge debts making our economy go from bad to worse ✌️ now blaming everything on central govt won’t make sense because all these actions come under state govt jurisdiction!! All industries of Ludhiana and Jalandhar moved out due to increased electricity costs and lower supply, bad law and order during the militancy period which were direct consequence of govt policies of free subsidies to agriculture sector!
