Hi, not a flame or anything but I just thought I'd point out that you;re absolutely NOT supposed to press out on the clean and jerk, you can only "snap" the weight up in a "jerk", not press it. Even a hint of pressing will result in a foul and zero lift. The same applies to the snatch although it;s essentially impossible to press the weight in that lift.

Great video all round. Chloe is a very talented young lady and a brilliant teacher too. As for Eddie, this is the Eddie that we all like to see. As one of the strongest men to ever walk the planet, Eddie showed great humility in learning from a younger person. He also provided us all with a great tip about avoiding Ego lifting and avoiding injury. This video is a brilliant example of Eddie, as both a man and a father, teaching his son and his audience about learning from others no matter who they might be, showing respect and creating a positive environment for all to flourish. Bravo to all involved in this video.

Olympic lifting is the most fun lifting I've found. It demands strength, power, flexibility, range of motion, balance/stability, timing, form, speed, confidence, and mental grit. Am I good, no, not really I can clean and jerk bodyweight and snatch about 70% of that. But hey what percentage of the world can hold their own body weight overhead? Yet alone be able to get it from the ground to overhead on their own? I mean I'd bet the world wide number is less than 20%.

I severly struggled with my front rack mobility when I first learned to clean and front squat. I took it as a challenge and I constantly work on it; from my wrists, to my triceps, to my shoulder, lats, etc. I can now put the bar on my back and still bend my elbows forward as if they are in the front rack position. My back feels much looser than before, and throwing weight above my head feels way more comfortable. Thank you for your videos. They are entertaining and motivating.

@dummy9517
@dummy9517 Жыл бұрын
@@Lee-ic2yn yeah but that's actually a pretty poor judgement. Transforming from that "more awkward" to proper weightlifting is a MASSIVE JOB, and the mobility it needs is crazy. Just explosive DL to front raise to getting under the bar is a massive task, also front squatting and cleaning will take time due to flexibility and mobility issues, but it can be taught to some lighter guys(like Novikov comes to mind, he can actually jerk, saw his stone bb lifts) Sure, these guys even with bad technique can oversnatch and overclean even many of the middleweight male weightlifters, but that's not the point. Given their size, especially the fact that they are likely doing it for the first time with a massive physique which is hard to train something new, makes it difficult

I always thought it is a bad idea to bring your son to the gym since I thought he was too young for the gym in general, but watching you taking really good care, keeping him in the safe zone of training and not overdoing it on him but still encouraging him to do strong but not going to far because he might hurt himself with trying to compete with grown ups, I now changed my mind and do think that it is perfect to continue and you are responsible enough and should continue to encourage him to grow into this and be like JUST DO the sports, which is what you have done for years now for so many of us, being a good example. Big Love 2 U Eddie.

thats cool ur genuinely trying to emulate the silhouette. btw, you should try the snatch with one of them squat bars or if you can find like an 8 foot 32mm hybrid bar. if your hands come out wide enough to meet the collars, it might be more comfortable to do on a longer barbell. people 6'4 and above typically have that issue where they need to grip at the max width of the 7 foot barbell. so it might make sense for you even if you have t rex arms for your height. realistically, you want to be gripping wide enough that you can comfortably extend through the shoulders and elbows, so you wanna experiment with grip width even if it's less than an inch difference. But once you find your grip width, you're gonna want to stay very consistent with it. for front rack mobility, try to use something like an ez curl bar or swiss bar and just ohp with a very deep neutral grip. At the bottom of each rep let it sink, let your traps lower. something like a trap bar ohp, with good depth will get some mobility going as well. Ideally do some of it seated, and do some seated good mornings to really load the spine from your pelvic floor upwards. Something else you could try, to really dummy proof the process is to just do an isometric hold on a pull up bar. Try to replicate the position of your front rack on a pull up bar while actively trying to hold it as your grip fails over time, just maintaining contact of your collarbone and your skin with the bar. You might want to use a neutral grip or other grip implement on the bar to get this, anything that works to help you get that stabilization and structural fatigue. Ideally, you want to do whatever you can to maintain this position. As you progress you want to be able to hold it while remaining more upright and having little to no elbow flare. Then sooner or later, you can probably get somewhat of a front rack going for stuff like clean and jerks or power jerks. There are specialty bars or accessories from like Spud inc or Black widow training gear in the meantime that could work on your front squat numbers directly even before you have the mobility to do it with a regular barbell. Ultimately, the only way to really develop your strength transference to a clean and jerk is to work on mobility and strength at the same time. There is also stuff like that zombie squats and zercher. Zercher is less specific and I think carries over with other odd lifts like sand bags and stone loading but ultimately what you're lacking in if you can't get a good front rack, is going to be more of an upper spinal erector and thoracic mobility weakness. Stuff like super wide grip pull ups, or super wide grip pull downs, behind the neck pull downs, even just snatch grip hangs and sternum neutral grip pull ups can help with some of that. But ultimately, without the shoulder mobility in external rotation and wrist mobility, you won't be able to develop a solid front rack without trying to work on atleast some of the things. I highly recommend neck extensions because typically people will make themselves front heavy on the neck, where they want to get the no necking action, because an exposed neck for stuff like fighting and contact sports like foot ball is typically something that can be attacked so people have it ingrained in them to want to hide their neck like they're a gorilla. But if you want a strong front rack, you gotta have a proud neck and a proud chin. And the neck also helps with spinal erectors being strong just because it's all part of the spine. So instead of what normally people work on is neck curls going forwards, you gotta do neck extensions pulling the back of your head while packing your chin. Probably do it over the edge of a flat surface like a flat bench or seal row bench with neck head strap. Also if you're trying to work on overhead wrist mobility, try dead hangs to active hangs with random grip implements. Things liek balls grips, and bigger balls grips. And ofc any kind of fat grip implement typically is less stress on the shoulder joints. If you try to grip with your palm underneath the grip implement and you try to grasp it from underneath of it, you'll get contractions on the back of your forearm and the back of your palm and knuckles and it'll stretch out your wrist and you'll even feel some of that in your shoulders. Even if it makes you weak initially and you go to failure very easily on it without ever actually adding any weight, you'll want to pursue that if you actually want to get to a point where you're holding down a front rack. The arms are only a small part of it, because most of it leads from somewhere in the neck and upper spine. So ideally it should be all felt together through a couple of different lifts. bilateral face pulls aren't that useful if you don't grip wide enough on them. Try to do it with a sled and try to lead with the wrist like in a double biceps pose, and lower your hips. In general, you're probably not going to get much use out of a horizontal cable row if your chest gets in the way, and you don't squeeze outwardly with your shoulder blades and rear delts. This is likely not something you have access to right now anyways because of all the fat and lack of strength in the tissues hidden between the bigger muscle groups and all the fat. It's not something you can really isolate that well through stable hypertrophy lifts if you're fat, so ideally you gotta use certain unstable lifts and you gotta find a way to replicate the squatting pattern even if you can't maintain the position with a barbell. You want to be able to feel that uncomfortable tired feeling in your upper spine in a loaded hip hinge. And so a ssb probably going to be the closest thing you've probably done before. But you still want to have your hands and elbows kind of high and forward in that. You want to pack your chin and you dont want to push it outwardly. Because if you push your chin forwards, that isn't a proud position for the neck. You almost want to feel the peak forces in your nape and the back of your skull. Where all the wrinkles are, except you want to stretch it to be long. So you pull it all in but instead of having your head curl inwards and downwards, you want your neck upright along with an upright torso because this is the position that is going to be the strongest position within a front squat. Your core is not going to be used to this right away. And so even if you don't have the mobility right now and you dont see yourself having the mobility any time soon, you gotta find that point of contention where it makes your muscles fucking uncomfortable in those areas. You want shoulders down and shoulders back and you want your wrists pushing upwards onto a handle (try not to worry about crush grip). You wont understand it until you start to get comfortable with the uncomfortable feeling of doing what it is your body is trying to tell you is impossible. That's ultimately how hypertrophy training is in a lot of cases but it's also relevant when you're trying to correct for imbalances regarding a lack of mobility. You can't create temporary flexibility gains without backing it up with hypertrophy because the hypertrophy will teach your muscles to contract along the necessary sticking points to make you more resilient in those extra inches of range of motion. Also you're built to squat. You low bar squat because of your lack of mobility, you grip out wide and you use a lot of hips and a lot of lower back to hit when you're back squatting. This automatically means your body and strength proportions are just skewed from the get go towards lower back and hips. You want to correct some of that by making your upper back, spine, neck, and rear delts the limiting factor at the start of most of your upper sessions if you want to be more balanced and well rounded for any of this stuff that you're not really built for right now. It will be harder to do at a higher body fat because of all the fat in your ribs and in your abdomen, you won't as easily be able to generate force in an upright torso and neck angle if your belly and puffy cheeks get in the way. But you can also just try to recomp and try to push through it regardless. That is a thing that people do, if they don't want to lose strength and they don't want to lose weight. But it will mean that you have to eat at a maintenance so your body weight doesn't ever trend downwards, and you should maintain most of your strength if not gain some more, just doing maintenance calories and minimum volume for some of your strength lifts that you're trying to maintain. Just make sure that you put in effort on your weakpoints on the way down. You want to bleed yourself dry on the lifts that you're weak at. If you ever decide to lean down though and notice how uncomfortable it is to not have cushion in between your ribs, something to try out is dumbell pull overs. it wont matter right away but down the line if you ever do get lean, it'll be important if you want to still try to breathe and brace for strength, there's gonna be a lot missing from your body for it. If there's any lift you're gonna want to spam at some point in your life when you're lean, it's probably reverse hypers and dumbell pull overs.

I applaud anything that challenges the stupid disdain and hatred between different strength sports. As a natural powerbuilder I've had to learn everything to get the maximum edge for my physique, including powerlifting, weightlifting, Crossfit, and callisthenics. I can say nobody who's actually tried one of them is gonna bash them, because they are all bloody hard in their own way. Athletes who go cross across genres, like Klokov and Mark Henry, are true inspirations. Glad to see Eddie Hall is going in the same direction.

Incredible. I think the 263kg world record is for the clean and jerk though, not the snatch. I think the snatch record is 225kg by Lasha…

I feel like Eddie held off on making some jokes he would usually make (fair enough considering who he was with) - but I think if it was just men there, the names of these lifts would be a comedy goldmine for him lol

I think the possistion for the jerk you were trying was a bit wrong ( that why it was so hard ) its more about trying to rest the bar on your sholders and not on the chest. You may be closer that way. Nice job trying it tho its way harder than it looks :)
