Great fix. Went better than the last TV I tried fixing. It had no backlight. I thought the backlight controller was bad. Even the power supply repair manual pointed to replacing that chip. Didn't work. People seem to think the LEDs are what went bad. But by then I had already gotten rid of it. They don't build them to last, like everything today.
@TheUltimateRecycler2 жыл бұрын
Exactly Hugh, what do they call it "planned obsolescence"? Annoying that there's no thought of planning going into design these days with repair in mind. I have done some TV backlight jobs with success - but maybe just lucky!

Nicely fixed, I'm somewhat surprised to see the aerial socket still in use... I'd have just bypassed it with a cheap freeview box, satellite box, dvd, blueray, game box or even an old video. I'm guessing what I'm saying, is there's more than one way to skin a cat and with modern TVs as long as you have a working hdmi or AV socket the original owner could have bypassed the damaged socket and even upgraded the TV, no soldering skill required if the had wanted to.
@TheUltimateRecycler2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely Martin and I had even mentioned that to the lady that dropped it off! I guess they never thought of that and just went out and purchased a new TV!

Exactly. You can buy some cool little box gadgets for around $10. I got one for digital TV . on my retro game 51'. Old tube I need it to play virtual cop, house of the dead & all my other light gun saturn shoot em up imports . The little device can record TV, read different micro cards & all sorts of handy stuff. It opens & plays everything in my loaded H.D unlike my smart TV. It reads & plays back any format.

Nice video, good instruction and easy to watch. I've just snapped the aerial input on my TV and want to mend it. I'm not sure I have one of those cage things that I can get hold of. Would it also be an acceptable repair (would it work) to solder in a short length of co-ax cable directly to the board and existing cage?
@TheUltimateRecycler Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jools! Yes, I think that would be an acceptable and perfectly functional fix option! 👍😊

@@TheUltimateRecycler soldered it up this evening here. Mine was more in depth than yours, the cage was full of electronics so I had to pry the middle pin out, solder on some insulated copper wire. Joined that to the central coax wire and soldered the outer to the outer cage. Might be a bit weak but duct tape sorts it. And best not to spaff another grand on a new tv. Thanks for the video help

Hi there, what resistance would you normally expect on the aerial antenna socket (between the core and the shell)?

@@TheUltimateRecycler yep sometimes the bright lights of advertisements cause a cloaking over any alternative cheap simple fixes that would save money on a shiney new set. I wish you could fix my TV. It's got the same problem my neighbor sold me a small 22 inch TV for like $10-$20 a few years ago before he passed away. I could probably plug in a DVD player but I just wanted to attach an antenna buy I can't lol.

You could possibly grab an old VHS player and plug the antenna into that, then feed the signal through the AV input to your TV
