I’ve owned the King Seiko KSK for two weeks now, and it hasn’t left my wrist. I’m so so impressed with it, the finishing is wonderful, the way it catches the light and the overall quality has won me over. Some commentators have criticised the movement but it runs perfectly fine to me and keeps good time. I’ve tried on plenty of Grand Seikos and actually I’m pleased I spent my money on the KSK instead (and I was lucky enough to find it used for a big discount!). This is a lot of watch for the money…it feels high end, and yet is so discrete and classy.

But it was Grand Seiko that won the battle and continue develop until today. I love this King Seiko because it is an reissue, I love vintage watches. If you were comparing this KS reissue with modern GS, I would get this too because I like vintage. But if you go back in time, vintage GS and KS has similar design really. That said, vintage GS has this kind of case too.

Buying used at a deep discount was the way to go! Congrats on your business savvy, and having the discipline to wait for someone else to throw their hard earned money on msrp, then regret their purchase, while you wait patiently for them to chuck it on the secondary market, then swooping down to retrieve the spoils at real market value. Lol

Hi, my name is Marcelo, I'm from Brazil and a lover of watches, especially vintages and Chronos from the 60s and 70s. I have a small collection and two vintage Seikos from the 70s are part of it: a Bullhead JDM 6138-0040 circa1975 and a Cevert 6139-6002, circa 1973, both original and in good condition. Congratulations on the channel! hug Marcelo

Agree for most of us 3k on a watch is just too much . The Sarb also has a more appealing lug/case . There is definitely a market at £300 to £400 for the Sarb but without Seiko filling it micro brands are . Seiko now is wanting closer to £1000 for a Sarb like watch , and unfortunately there is so much Swiss competition with ETA movements at that price.

There’s no doubt the SARB was *good* for the money and that’s about it. Other than that, it’s now this mythical, over-hyped unicorn. For $300-$500 you’re much better off looking towards brands like Tissot or Hamilton, plus you’ll get a far superior movement.

Great video as usual and a stunning watch . KS is also an important part in Seiko history . Just a mistake in the video : the new KS is a re- issue of the reference 44-9990 with the strong lugs and not the 4402-8000 as shown in the pic in the video which has smaller lugs

I am actually wearing the watch today. One thing worth mentioning is that this watch has strong wrist presence. Also it has an unique character. I also have its 67' vintage 44-9990, slightly older version of the 44999 which has the shield medallion. This is 36.5mm and without date. More than 50 years and the hands and markers still sparkle.

Earlier this year, I set out to get a grail of mine; the Grand Seiko SBGR261. After months of taking on extra jobs, saving, and selling various things I don't use anymore, In June I finally went to an AD and purchased my Grand Seiko. While I was there, they happened to have a King Seiko in stock and I tried it on. I fell in love with it! The sharp, angular case and lugs caught the light beautifully and I loved the way it fit on wrist. I ALMOST abandoned buying the more expensive GS right then and there to get "The King." In the end, I went with the GS (and couldn't be happier), but I would venture to say if I had seen this video before hand, I MIGHT have the King Seiko sitting on my wrist right now!

The movement inside, the 6L35, is actually an evolution of well-known 4L35 movement. It is a design that could be find even in some watches under the Seiko's high-end Credor brand, as well as a relatively obscure, but nevertheless fantastic Swiss-licensed independent movement Soprod a10. All in all, great watch and terrific movement!

Since you asked, I had a Grand Seiko SBGR031 from 2005 until 2021. It had understated, almost stealth looks and the crown guards made it a sporty 3 hand watch; particularly stealthy as SEIKO and not GS was emblazoned on the dial. The watch grew on me with ownership because of it's quality and craftmanship. In 2021 I could not resist "upgrading" to the SBGR257, which is essentially the same watch, but with a display back and the newer 9S65A movement. It is my favourite watch and I have owned many, vintage and new across most price ranges. It is unique as a sporty 3 hand watch in the Grand Seiko range and IMHO worthy of a review.

Good day TGV, indeed, the SJE083 is the King of Seikos :-) The finish and the dial looks marvelous. One little detail I like quite a lot is the Seiko logo (or the font of it) on the buckle! That’s a really beautiful Seiko! At that price, it’s approaching GS territory, though. Every watch I see makes me appreciate my SARB035 more! The SARBs were truly outstanding values.

Thank you very much for doing this video. Very educational. I vaguely remember seeing this style of Seiko watch back in the 70's but never owned one. I was a teenager and didn't have the money to even consider it. The watch snobs don't talk much about the King Seiko on youtube. The watch is classic. I would say that it is worth the asking price.

Look, I feel like I have to lodge an official complaint here. Can we not just have more of these videos? I feel like your sleep requirements are no longer important, we want more! Another great video TGV. I love how you have such a passion for Seiko when everyone else is only talking about the “luxury” brands. If it wasn’t for your videos I wouldn’t have discovered the SNA411 Flighty.

I just bought a vintage KS from the 70s a few weeks ago, and it really is something. Mine is decently patinated but still unbelievably beautiful. Vintage and fully serviced for $600, less than half the cost of vintage GS!

After a glance at the balance wheel assembly, the 6L35 has a beat corrector arm along with gross & fine rate adjustment like an ETA 2894. But unlike the ETA, they're accessible, not buried under the automatic works. So that's a bonus when regulating. Just a technical detail that caught my eye.

Tristan, nobody does watch history like you. Kudos! This is a beautiful timepiece but the movement let's the side down. 4hz is no longer high beat, and being comparable to a ETA 2892 is no compliment. Why not a 9S movement borrowed from GS? Speaking of GS iberead that the KS/GS competition was intense but also friendly. There is more than on instance of parts swapping for example.

Suwa had the S-logo. Suwa did some King Seikos too. The remnants of the Suwa 6000 series movements are now found in Orient and Orient Star.
