Omg the whole "why don't we pick a place everyone can eat at" when someone suggests a vegan restaurant is so frustrating because...everyone CAN eat there? I get that not everyone is an adventurous eater but adults that aren't even willing to try something...

This was amazing. Honestly, I'm one of those people that really doesn't like to tell people I'm vegan unless the topic of food comes up in a conversation which seems to happen way more than it did before I went vegan 4 years ago (funny how that happens. lol) But it's because I don't want to be perceived as that vegan who is stuck up and has to announce it. You know? I hope more and more vegans learn to chill and take a back seat approach when it comes to friends and family because you can't change people. People will see you being a light in this world and will become more interested in what you're doing when you just.. do it for yourself. And they will see how amazing it all is. My parents are not the healthiest and it has messed with me for a long time. Ironically my dad was the one who told me about Forks Over Knives and how it's an amazing documentary right when I went vegan and he probably will never go vegan even though he agrees with literally every aspect of that documentary. But when I'm around my family, I have noticed them becoming more interested in what I choose to eat and sometimes they are interested in eating the same thing. All hope is not lost but you certainly can't force it and you can't be judgmental.

I wouldn't call people who feel angry at a huge injustice assholes. Anger is a normal and appropriate response when people discover that they have been supporting cruel industries their entire lives because their families have been deceived over generations to believe that what they were eating was healthy and necessary. Its all to easy to throw the word ego around when people who feel angry and sad at the injustice truly feel in despair and just don't know how to channel that energy in a positive way yet. They are still in shock and because their eyes are open they can't understand how they didn't make the connection before and how other people haven't yet.

Starry Skies we never did! We’re all angry about the huge injustice of animals being slaughtered for our own enjoyment. I don’t think we would dedicate so much time and energy fighting it if we were not angry. This episode simply explores how to be a less abrasive activist and to embrace your own voice and a method of persuasion called the foot in the door technique. The Vegan View is about bringing different views on veganism together, and this is one that I identify with a lot but, we have had interviews that I don’t in the past for the sake of exposing different view points. Of course anger is a natural response but we discuss our anger and then talk about how to channel it into action pertaining to this methodology. We absolutely are not discrediting activists who are more abrasive in their approach, this is an alternative for those who do not feel like that approach is working. Every voice is valuable and this episode explores a differing perspective.

Also the asshole part is more about people being mean! Not angry 🤗 we’re trying to create a kinder community! And that doesn’t involve stifling anger, but channeling it! Use that fire 🙌🏽👏🏽

Great discussion. I agree I encourage people if they have cut out one animal product , baby steps, thats how I did it. Some people can do it over night but some it is harder for we have to remember its undoing years of conditioning. Taking the pressure off makes a huge difference.💟

I am so glad you made this video! I feel that being angry on the lies that we were told, especially in those first few months when you can't believe that you've supported that lie, and everyone is being deceived by the industry, is natural but this is not an excuse to act as a douche. All the anger can be used as fuel for sharing veganism, and peaceful activism is a really good method! On the street or here on KZbin too. Every form of activism can be a constructive one :)

It’s not eating meat that upsets me. It’s the systematic torture of animals and the constant justification & joking around of that abuse. Imagine living in a world where slavery or rape was accepted and anyone who disagreed was mocked and told by other people against the practice to not be angry about it and not to be an angry abolitionist or angry woman. I put up with the constant jokes by friends & family. I do draw the line when someone tells me I should respect their “right” to eat meat. Nope, I don’t respect or recognize any so called right to hurt someone else for your wants. So, in regular life I don’t yell at people or preach at them. I put up with the meat jokes and answer their questions. What I’ve not been willing to put up with lately is people who want vegans to feel sorry for Anthony bourdain who tortured animals, people who can’t see the problem with a so called vegan product that is tested on & killed animals to make their product (impossible burger), and people who blame vegans for other people not going vegan.
@xtinkerbellax3

"people who blame vegans for other people not going vegan" I'm seeing this a lot lately and I find it ridiculous, people basically telling others they have to speak in a very specific way as to not scare off people who might go vegan or people saying it took them so long to go vegan because of "certain types of vegans". I guess I just really can't relate. I went vegan for animals and random people on the internet had nothing to do with it, letting a stranger online keep you from doing something you're passionate about is bullshit and frankly an excuse.
@lg95

xtinkerbellax3 good for you, however other people aren’t like this, this was YOUR experience but it wasn’t mine. Excuse or not the angry vegan persona frankly just pissed me off (why would I want to be any more like this angry judgemental person or listen further to anything they have to say) it wasn’t until I met vegans who led by example and who weren’t constantly being rude and condescending and shoving veganism down my throat that I finally became vegan. I felt comfortable asking them questions and felt even more compelled to do my own research. Call it what you may but the heart of if is (for me anyway) their method of teaching by example is what helped me along my path to embracing full veganism. and at the end of the day that’s the whole point isn’t it? To get more people to embrace the vegan lifestyle. Don’t get me wrong I still get angry but I try to replace that with patience and understanding, because I believe it’s more effective.

There are stages of going vegan and it is normal to be the stereotypical “angry” vegan in the beginning. It’s almost like how could you not be? In my experience it is so difficult to find that balance between judging meat eaters (especially the ones who are fully aware of animal cruelty) and being that example of a peaceful, happy, enlightened person vegans are “supposed” to be. Sometimes I feel like I can’t win. As vegans we have to be extra careful of how we act and constantly aware of how we are portraying the vegan movement. It gets exhausting and sometimes feels like an act. Who actually can say they don’t cry inside a little when they see someone they love eating an animal? It’s impossible if you truly care about animals. And how do we make change if we don’t speak up and are a voice for the voiceless? Someone is I bound to think we are “shoving our opinions down their throat” no matter what. I like hearing how other people think about this topic but I am still a little conflicted about t myself.

I find the easiest way to have compassion for meat eaters is to think about myself before I was vegan. I used to say that all vegans were dumb, illogical and rich. If I can come from a place where I said all that and still be a vegan today, then there is hope for anyone. I remember when I first found veganism on youtube, that I was so off put by the anger and judgement I saw. Granted, I was watching the wrong people, but all they were doing was shaming people for things they themselves did only a few years ago. I would much prefer to have a message of love and acceptance than one of judgement.

first off, love the show and still love ya's! xoxox i have to say though in the community at the very least fellow vegans always seem to be looking down on us street activists. we're just trying to be a visual presence to raise awareness. In my group, we don't yell or scream. We ONLY have conversations with people who approach us. We're pretty silent except when we're singing animal liberation tunes. LOL. I just think we're misunderstood is all. What we are attempting to do is use street activism as a positve outlet for our fustration and passion while surrounding ourselves with like minded people so we can feel connnected as opposed to isolated.anyway..thanks for listening. peace xoxox

CBD IsLife I don’t look down on street activists at all! I think it’s awesome and SO important! We were talking about angry vegans who shame others for not being perfect or ready to go fully vegan. Like if you have a friend who’s trying to go vegan or interested in it but you push them farther away from it because they had cheese on their veggie pizza. It’s about trying to be effective and compassionate, that’s all we were trying to say! Keep putting the message out there and sharing your beliefs with the world! I know we all think that’s awesome 💚

It is so funny how people get so turned off by the vegan label. My husband and I were talking about what food we were going to have at our wedding. My mother-in-law said "oh if you have vegan food my husband won't eat it, I'll have to bring a pb&j for him". And I just sat there and said "a pb&j is vegan...". Literally at my wedding my siblings were talking about how they were going to leave to get a burger. But we had tacos and chips and salsa and other stuff and so many people told me how much they liked the food. People are so weird lol

Linda Clark The use of the word 'like' is a language trend characteristic of the American West, especially the California region (which is where they all live) so it's not weird they are all doing it. Please let them use their language/dialect in any way they want, they're not hurting anyone. And if you do feel inclined to say something about it you could have been a little more polite, this is just plain rude. Also take into consideration that they are putting a lot of effort into these videos which we view for free so the least we can do is appreciate it and be respectful. :)

Damn I normally love your videos but this one just rubbed me the wrong way. I think as vegans its important to disrupt the norms. yes as a vegan you're not harming animals but speaking up and disrupting is saving animals. I took the liberation pledge and won't sit with people consuming flesh, I did this because I am making a statement by saying it is not okay to me for you to kill my friends just being okay with it is just so backwards to me. I'm sure if you were the victim you wouldn't want vegans to shut up about your suffering.

takecare if you were the one in a tiny cage spending your entire life without ever seeing the outside being treated poorly just to end your life by getting your throat slit you might think differently. This isn’t about you. It’s about the sentient beings being abused and murdered. I understand not talking to every single person about veganism but I don’t understand not standing up for the voiceless. If you’re silent you’re choosing the side of the oppressor.

Hi Vegan View. I like most of your videos but this one really made me sad because of all the swearing in it. Now I'm not here to offend anyone with my opinion but swearing in videos grates on my nerves and I can't listen to it. I even tell my own family about their cussing too so I'm not randomly picking just anyone out of the blue. Your content is always been reason enough to watch these as it is so interesting and educational and different. Well, I will watch another video but if it's the same old swearing instead of someone using their brain to figure out alternative words to speak then I'm going to unsubscribe and find other people that I feel comfortable watching.
