This made me cry, dude, I'm so happy for you that you're free from that soul-destroying pain. I could almost feel that relief when you described lying down in your bed, legs out straight with with no pain. I was told I had sciatica about 7 years ago, unfortunately it turned out not to be and I actually have fibromyalgia. I'm only 33 and feel like my life is over, but I am still be so pleased for people who have suffered chronic pain and recovered well from it. Success stories are what keep me going, at present. Keep looking after yourself 😊

+Hannah Johnsen Hello. Someone in this comment thread mentioned a Dr. John Sarno and a Dr. Howard Schubiner. You might want to look into their medical practices and theories on the mind-body connection in dealing with chronic pain. i just learned about them myself and I don't know much about them, but they sound very interesting so i thought I would mention them to you in case you had never heard of them. I would also like to recommend a spiritual author and speaker named Eckhart Tolle. I don't know if you have already heard of him. He talks about having a calm mind and not being overwhelmed by our thoughts. You might find what he has to say interesting. Take care.

I survived it 3 times, last one ended up in hospital for 2 weeks and ended up with a dropped foot. Got a prescription of 2Tylanols 500mg each 3 times a day, muscle relaxant before sleep and 1 naproxen 500mg 2 times a day. I think Naproxen saved me. It has been 5 years now and my dropped foot got 80% resolved after 2 years. No pain anymore but still have tingling on my pinky toe. It takes time, lots of walking and pain. I hope no one goes through this ever! But there is hope!

I ve been dealing with it for 2+ months now. About a month ago my bed was uncomfortable so i tried to lay on the floor. I got stuck on the floor and couldn't get up for 4 hours. I had my phone in hand and almost called an ambulance just to get me out of that position. I had to just bite the bullet so I went against the pain over and over and over...just get up when i did i thanked the god in tears. I thought i was going to have a heart attack. Just this week my 6 year old nephew told me that i look like im dying. He is probably right.

Nice to hear a good ending. I currently have my affected leg propped up on pillows while laying down on the couch. I’m 33. This is the most unbearable pain I have ever felt in my life. My glute and right hamstring has such a deep, heavy, throbbing pain that is there AT ALL TIMES. I’m a military vet, I have trained MMA fighters, I’m a pretty tough guy… and this sciatic pain has brought me to tears. I don’t wish this on anyone. I have only been experiencing this for one month but it has not gotten better at all

Hi Chris, I know this is an old video but I hope you see this. Just want to say thank you! I currently have sciatica, realised I was claustrophobic when I had my MRI (what a time to find out!). I'm about 7 months in and my physical therapy starts in a week. I'm like you with not taking pain killers so I've declined the injection too. My specialist did mention about an operation but she said that was a last resort, as I'm in the U.K. and the NHS will try and find the cheapest way of doing things. I'm going back to see her in October so if it's still bad I'm definitely pushing for the operation. I'm 45 and never had surgery so it's a little daunting but this video has given me a little ray of hope. Thank you!!! ❤️

I'm 26 years old and I've had sciatic nerve pain for the past month. It started out as lower back pain. I thought it would pass after a few days, but it only got worse. I couldn't stand up straight or even sit up for five minutes to eat. Showering was almost impossible. I was home alone all day and was completely helpless. I was literally stuck in bed for three straight days before I finally went to the doctor. I was avoiding going because I was in too much pain to leave the house. I'm not sure what caused it, as I didn't injure myself. I'm overweight, not very active, and have a poor diet. I'm a college student, so I spend a lot of time sitting, including hours studying at my desk. I've never had any serious health issues before this. Just like you, I had never taken pain meds. I was also prescribed Hydrocodone. I was really reluctant to take them, but I was in so much pain that I decided to try. I was very conservative with my use of the meds. They got me through a tough week of recovery while I was on corticosteroids. The pain meds allowed me to function again. Unfortunately, my sciatica slowly started to develop as I recovered from my lower back pain. It fucking sucks. I honestly think it's worse than the back pain. I just started physical therapy a week ago. I haven't seen any specialists yet. I want to answers. I'm hoping to get an MRI next. I feel like I'm never going to get better. I just want to be healthy and pain-free again. What I didn't expect is the toll that something like this takes on your mental and emotional health. Like you said, you take your health for granted until it's gone. I don't know how you dealt with this for two years. Thank you for sharing your story ❤

Sounds like me. I've had sciatica 3 months now. I find the pain intense and going to work is very difficult. I can only walk so far, s fee feet and the pain starts. Excercise actually makes mine worse. My body favors rest more vital. Stopped the gym thing nowadays. When the pain starts I always run to my bed and lay flat on my back tends to help. Years of running outside may have attributed to a herniated/ slipped disc

I've had sciatica pain since I injured myself last summer when I was exercising trying to lose weight. It wasn't anything concerning, my lower back just felt uncomfortable. A few months passed, and it got so bad to the point that I couldn't stay standing for more than 2 minutes. I would start sweating because I was in that much pain. I finally went to the doctor and he gave me some NSAIDs and 2 weeks later a steroid shot in my lower back (this was in Oct/Nov 2014), which significantly reduced my pain within a few days. I was still constantly in pain but it was something I could live with. However, earlier this year around late Spring my Sciatica started getting bad again, but this time the pain was in my other leg. I couldn't stay sitting down without horrible pain and I had to sleep with one leg tucked to my chest. As the year and then summer progressed, it just got worse and worse. I couldn't sit down without searing pain, so I got in the habit of laying down on the floor to use my laptop. My back and Sciatica was so bad that one day I wasn't able to get up off the floor. I couldn't move my legs or hips without experiencing the worst pain in my life, and so I was forced to stay on the floor for an entire month without being able to get up at all. Thankfully I live with my family and they were able to take care of me, but it was bad. I don't have health insurance so I couldn't call an ambulance, nor could I afford medical bills, so I just waited and hopped to get better. I had to take the maximum dosage of Ibuprofen every single day for almost 2 months (which is definitely not good) but it was the only thing that was helping my back get better. After a month, I was finally able to get up and take a few steps. And, little by little, I got better. Then when I felt ready a few weeks later I went to a chiropractor. I was really scared of going to a chiropractor I had never been to before, mostly because I didn't want him injuring me. However, it went well and he was able to align my spine (which was in horrible condition), and I felt a bit better afterwards. So far I've gone to the chiropractor twice and I plan on keep going at least once a month so my spine and back wont get too bad. It's been about a month and a half, maybe 2 months since I've been up off the floor, and I still have some lower back pain but nothing like before. It's scary, I don't ever want to be in that position again. Sciatica Sucks. I definitely agree on that.

Well I’ve managed to make it all the way to 61 with a back that is a backstabber. Never did get a real diagnosis from any doctors and I started to distrust the medical field. I got myself a puppy to assist me staying fit but that probably backfired and have been bed ridden for 2 weeks with the wonderful pain called siactica. Wow man wow! I pray alot cuz I still want to go enjoy the outdoors with my shepard but it sure is scary when you aren’t sure of your return to your normal. Very humbling when you can leave the bed no matter how determined you might be. I thought I was tough and could endure alot of pain. Boy was I oh so wrong! Hopefully some doctor can diagnose what’s going on in there. 🙏🏻 I’ll add you in my prayers but either way-Glory to God!

I started to cry when I watched this, because no one would understand the pain I was going through, and you had it head on.it really does ruin your life because you cant do the things you used to be able to. people would just say " oh stop it doesn't hurt that bad" or " your just being a wuss." I was 23 maybe 24 when I messed mine up pretty bad. I was out of work for a month and a half. and when I go to bed I have to sleep tilted up because if I lay normal my lower back just hurts soo bad. can never be comfortable anymore.

Excellent video, thanks for sharing your story. You make a great point about being a gamer as a contributing factor. I was the same way over the years and disrespecting by back by having bad posture for so long definitely caught up to me. We humans weren't made to be sitting around all the time, and it shows. And being slender and making it a point to no longer lift heavy things, keep your back straight and avoid sitting for long periods is probably the best bet for avoiding a re-herniation. I really hope you are someone that has not re-herniated.

My sciatica was that bad for 2 years. I moved into a new apartment, furnished, and slowly my health declined. I went to physical therapy for my knee, then for my back. It was my first appointment for my back and I went home and the next day was unable to move. It kept getting worse until I spent a year in bed. I ended up in the hospital just on the pain and being unable to move to use the toilet. I never took the medication either after I got home but I did find some exercises specifically for sciatica which my physical therapist didn't show me. Those helped enough until I was able to buy a hammock. That was what saved me I think. A hammock is so amazing for sciatica. I was vegan the entire time, eating healthy, but when you can barely walk to the grocery store it is difficult to eat enough. Now it's so much better, I just can't sit for hours still, and lots of walking while carrying heavy things will flare it up. I'm hoping to get it gone so I can exercise again and be fit. I refuse to listen to everyone who says it can't be fixed. And I don't hold much stock in doctors nor their silly meds. While in the hospital they pumped me full of so many meds I felt high but the pain was still enough to make me cry. Why bother with meds I don't want when they don't work?

I took ballet, modern dance, & tap dance in college, & then one day I my right leg felt really bad. I thought it would get better & it just got worse. I finally went to the doctor a month later.they thought it was illiotibial tendonitis. They gave me naproxen. Went back in the third month & my GP said it was sciatica & slight scoliosis. He gave me a steroid (prednisone) & a muscle relaxer(robaxon). I went to a chiropractor for a few weeks. I would leave feeling worse. I wasn't able to dance. I was in a wheelchair , & the drugs made me fat, feel depressed, & like a zombie. I was supposed to get physical therapy & my first session with the therapist (after months months with sciatica), they cancelled as I was on my way. I cried most of the day.I just thought ,"NO! I can't LIVE my life like this! I can't dance with my boyfriend, it hurts, I'm walking with a cane .I'm in my early twenties! This Can't be my life!" I looked up natural remedies & that's how I stumbled onto veganism.

Hi guys. Ive been suffering with this for about 4 weeks now. Today was the worst day. Here in the UK our health service is garbage and it can often take 8 weeks from phonecall to appointment, but today I shuffled the quarter of a mile to my medical practice, it took me an hour to walk, in the rain, i fell over 3 times and people just walked past me and stepped over me. I got to the practice and REFUSED to move until a doctor saw me. They tried to get me to piss off to A+E (ER) but i won that argument. They prescribed me naproxen and paracetamol and codeine and, it's made so much difference. Its not perfect but im not in total agony. Here in the UK they'd almost never give you surgery for this because doctors pretty much don't want to risk doing a procedure that isn't absolutely life threateningly necessary because they're scared to make a mistake that might set their career back which, here, very much comes first for doctors. But, the medication does help so far. I was so happy today to be able to walk even if not super well.

damn man, I am so happy for you. I cant image how it must be for people with severe sciatica problems. I have only mild sciatica which started a week ago, I hope it will go away without the need for surgery. Sitting for long periods makes it worse, stretching, applying cold/heat to the area also gives some pain relief. I hope my pain will go away in a couple of months. My mistake was I continued to lift weights when I started having lower back problems, the problem was caused by either squat or heavy leg press. I took a week off and then after that I never did any exercise that would involve my lower back. What I didnt realise is that a lot of exercises use your lower back without you even realising it, including pull downs and bench press. Since my scatica problems has started I stopped lifting weights completely and only do stretches and walking. Nothing is more important than your health and a lot of hobby weightlifter do not have the patience. It will start with just discomfort in your back, ...then it will get worse and worse, and before you realise it you will have sciatica symptoms. With sciatica you will have problems with sleeping, sitting, standing ...every aspect of your life. I am lucky that my problem right now is mild, but I am scared it will get worse if I am not careful. I do take painkillers, such as ibuprofen, Co-dydramol or Naproxen. Applying heat and cold also gives some relief. I started doing a lot of `Mckanzie` herniated disc stretches, where you stretch your lower back and basically try to pull the herniated disc back.

Naproxen is a great anti-inflammatory . Im currently stuck in my bed as I blew out my lower back today at work. It felt like electricity shot through my hips and literally dropped me to my knees. Going to see the doctor tomorrow as this is the 4th time I've experienced this. This time appears to be worst as any time I put pressure on my left leg my hips jolt with what feels like electricity. The worst pain I've ever experienced in my 42 years. Really hoping this can be fixed. I'm worried because I work in construction and a bad back equals no more work in my trade.

I was squatting at the gym and I herniated a disc and now I have sciatica. Worst part is that I'm only 16, the pain got unbearable and I literally couldn't get more than 3 or 4 hours of sleep and I couldn't find any position that wouldn't cause extreme pain. Even worse, since I take online classes, I have to sit the entire day and sitting was the most painful. I'm feeling much better after a steroid injection in my back, no surgery though. The moment I stood up after the injection, I was confused that there was basically no pain since I got so used to it. I had a minor flare up since then but overall I'm on the path to recovery. I hope everyone who ever has sciatica recovers quickly, worst thing I ever experienced. edit: i have scoliosis and my right leg is slightly shorter as a result

I have fibromyalgia, chronic migraines, severe memory loss, GERD, IBS, RLS, and OCD. Hearing you talk about being well and then all of the sudden your quality of life going down, I know how you feel. I was diagnosed about 9 years ago and had to stop working in February 2012 due mostly to the memory loss. The pain though is what you never get used to. I don't wish anything bad on anyone but I wish just for 5 minutes I could make those around me understand what pain does to your life and how EVERYTHING becomes so much harder when you are sick. I don't wallow in my own self pity. When I started to feel bad I did everything in my power to make sure it wasn't something I was doing to cause these problems. I quit smoking cold turkey after 23 yrs of smoking. I stopped drinking any dark sodas and eventually stopped all sodas. I went vegetarian and finally vegan and now working on raw vegan. I am losing weight by the week. I removed an overbearing boyfriend from my life. I removed all other sources of stress. I have essentially made it so that there is no outside source that anyone can point a finger at to say, "well, if you would just do things differently then...". I have done all I can. Oh, and I was taking high levels of pain meds just to get out of bed in the morning but I decided that I am going to detox off of all of them. That also includes the stomach medication and all the other strong meds they kept trying to give me. Pills never fixed anything. I know I wrote a paragraph but the point is that I was touched by what you were saying about how you would go to other people's houses and you couldn't help them and you felt bad. I know how that feels. It's even worse when your illness is invisible and can't be seen or proven.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing your story. Its very inspiring. I dealt with back issues when I was younger I sprained my back in gymnastics and was able to overcome the pain with back exercises. Now I have breast cancer that spread to my bone three years ago. Like you, I dislike pharmaceuticals, unfortunately the pain from the bone got to be too much me to bare so I had to go on drugs for pain. Its been hard because the drugs have side effects. I'm claustrophobic and the drug I'm taking seems to amplify that fear or discomfort. I really want off of the pharmaceuticals. I pray for the day like you that I can lay down and experience no more pain. Wanting to try CBDs because of Oliva Newton Johns story. She was bed ridden with the breast cancer returning in her spine, three months of CBD oils and she's now on tour pain free. It cost $1365.00 a month, which is a lot of money. Trying to find a way to pay for the treatment. Hopeful that one day I can be pain free again and able to smile and laugh again. This is why I became a Vegan in 2007 I went to Hippocrates Health Institute in West Palm Beach Florida. They taught me how to save my own life. I've been living with stage four breast cancer for eleven years and stage four bone cancer for three years. With love and respect, Sherry S. Bend, OR

It's definitely the worst pain I've ever dealt with. I couldn't even walk it took me seriously 30 minutes to put one shoe on my foot! It's absolute torture that's for sure! I went to a chiropractor and they did a y strap, and some other tricks and instantly took the pressure off my back and I can walk again it was crazy!

I had severe Sciatica as well. It was SO BAD in fact that I could not get in or out a car without assistance. I had to turn my feet at certain angles to take first steps. I had to get out my bed by rolling over and allowing my knees to hit the floor first and then stand one leg at a time. I eventually could not drive because I could not look over my shoulder OR apply the pressure on the break. One day I backed in to oncoming traffic trying to get to the Chiropractor because a pain so sharp hit me and did not allow me to put the car back in to drive. I could not lift my foot off the pedal to hit the brake. I was in turmoil. I meet with my herbalist who was also my acupuncturist and we made a plan. 1) I had to lessen the amount of saturated fats. 2) I became vegetarian but eat a vegan diet about 3 to 5 days per week. 3) SWIMMING. My nerve was stripped and that was the ONLY way to go. I REFUSED. I began to repair the cells around my sciatic muscle and eventually the pain lessened but I had to do it through high doses of Omega 3 and a strict RAW DIET for about 3 months. I have not had any pain in about 1.5 years now and my lower back pain went away. Also, and as importantly, my fibroids dissolved and eliminated themselves without me having to have surgery. I THANK GOD for my acupuncturist and his knowledge and WILLINGNESS to show me how to self-heal instead of just taking 80.00 a week from me for the rest of my life.

Thanks for the video man. I would describe the as evil and torturous. I a large herniation of disc L4/L5 right side about 13 years ago. After about 2 bad years and then one year where I wanted to die I had the surgery. It helped me a lot. Basically no back pain, they did find that I had permanent sciatic nerve damage form the length of time the nerve was compressed. Basically for the most part 10 years pain free until Dec 2013 a month do hell with the back. Then 3 weeks relief and now 7 weeks of absolute torture with the sciatic nerve. I fear I had my grace period and now will suffer.

Dr. Greger talked about a correlation of a high cholesterol diet and sciatica when the arteries around and to the nerve are blocked, which can cause problems. I was eating too much butter and cheese in '03 '04 & '05 when I developed back issues with moderate temporary sciatica. I would lift something improperly, and pull something that would stop me in pain, then afterward have a tingling in my leg. The weight on my midsection, from the animal fat, was not helping the balance of my spine. After I lost the weight in '06, began exercising regularly, the problem went away and doesn't really happen much. If it does, its brief and mild, and I know I've done something wrong. I reduced the animal fat to none as well.

When I was able to exercise, it was after severe episodes would subside, which were only triggered by improper sitting, lifting, or stress. Mild low impact aerobic activity combined with low weight resistance repetitions for very short periods daily, about 10 minutes. I only did what I felt I could do safely without discomfort or pain. This slowly increased as the weeks/months passed to 30 to 45 minutes daily as the weight came off. The more weight that came off, the more reward I felt, the more I would want to do. It levelled off when I was happy with my weight. However, I had to get rid of the animal fat and consumed a lot of crated carrots, romaine lettuces, and porridge oats. I did however cause the gallstones, that had formed during the years of my fat fest, to break up and begin to move causing severe pain. This caused me to have my gallbladder out. Had I never indulged in the fat, I believe those stones and biliary sand never would have formed. It was the downside to my journey out of bondage.

I sympathise with you wholeheartedly as I myself suffered with sciatica that got so bad that surgery was my only option. Sciatica does suck and the all encompassing pain just steals your life away. In one of Dr Michael Greger's videos he talks about diet being a cause of sciatica and lower back pain. The discs between our vertebras are dependent on a steady blood supply to keep healthy and alive, but atherosclerotic plaque from a high fat diet can lead to discs degenerating. This does not happen overnight it takes yrs but studies have found that by our early teens the discs will show signs of degeneration. I know now that my meat, dairy and egg eating yrs is the cause of my weakened back. I got a suspicion that you haven't been a vegan all your life and that your meateating past is more at cause of your sciatica than the reasons you mention, although I'm sure they didn't help once your back was seriously weakened. nutritionfacts.org/video/back-in-circulation-sciatica-and-cholesterol/

I can definitely relate to something similar. For me I had a really bad hamstring in my left leg and at first it felt like a sore muscle but it never went away and it got to the point where the pain was so crippling I cannot stand up for more than 2 minutes without collapsing and I did physical therapy and all that stuff and it wasn't working no one could figure out what the f*** was wrong with me and it was like that for a year-and-a-half to just about 2 years and then my father suggested to the doctors that we check my vitamin D levels and it turns out it was the lowest vitamin D levels that anyone has ever seen which makes sense because if you don't have vitamin D in your system then your muscles don't heal so I went on a D3 5000iu everyday for quite a few months and then lo and behold my leg was healing. Words cannot even describe how pissed off I was because I'm up here in New England and they did not even bother to check vitamin D which is something that we don't get enough up here. (the pain was so constant that I actually did consider amputating my leg just to stop the pain because I knew I couldn't live with it for the rest of my life, thankfully it didn't come to that)

you may have been able to avoid that surgury and 2 years of pain if you would have bought a teeter hang ups inversion table, 5 mins almost daily and I have no hip knee or back pain no more I swear by it

+The Common Sense VEGAN (PlayingTheHorses) also check out the psoas, you can work on it with a broom stick or a plunger, always going towards your face on your right side and down towards you legs on the left side because of direction of digestion. riktr.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/3_06_01.gif

I injured my lower back masturbating too hard and wearing lifts everyday. I was so embarrassed by how I hurt myself I never went to a doctor but the pain was excrutiating and it felt like someone was shocking my lower back. It was so horrendous. I took Advil daily 6 for 3 weeks until the pain went away. Then it came back for a week in August. And 4 weeks in September. I still have lower back pain.I have an mri scheduled

I`ve looked for a back pain treatment program for few months and this back pain guidebook, tinyurl.com/Sciatica77 fits me flawlessly. Since it helped my back pain, I`ve got no problem sleeping any longer. I love this guide. It`s firm and exactly what I was hunting for..?

I bulged my lower lumbar disc when I was lifting a 50 lb bag of dog food from the floor at work. I should have already known but it didn't occur to me at the time; YOU SHOULD ALWAYS BE LIFTING WITH YOUR LEGS! That's how I messed myself up so damn bad... ): It was extremely painful to go through. Back in 2017, I had 2 back surgeries within that one year. My first microdiscectomy wasn't successful at removing the bulged disc. So, my second surgery included, not trying to remove the bulge anymore, but removing part of my spine bone. That way the pinch wasn't too severe. I'm extremely sadden to say that the second surgery didn't work either. I had been on worker's comp for that whole year and ended up going back to work even though I was still in a lot of pain. I've been to physical therapy, seen chiropractors, taken all sorts of over-the-counter pain medicines that never worked well enough, and had consulted worker's comp approved specialists... About a year ago from now, I had gotten worse due to job duties and was stuck hunched over for a period of time. That was the worst of it. A considerable amount of time had passed and I found myself going to another doctor just to find out that the results of my x-ray showed no bulge anymore....nothing wrong based on what they saw. That blew my mind.. Currently, I am on the up and up. Though, the difference now being is that I am doing exercises specifically targeting sciatica pain and running/walking daily. Living with sciatica pain and piriformis syndrome from my accident at work has been THE most difficult situation I've ever had to deal with and it breaks my heart to know people are going through the same thing as me. It has really put a damper on everything I had hoped for myself in the future. I pray for each and every single soul out there having to live with this disabling pain

I know the feeling (pain). In my case, my ankles... :( I am so sorry to hear you've been through that. From time to time I also have low back or back pain. However, those are due bad posture or bad set up at my work station (in the past). I bought a standing desk and it has improved a lot my problems. My currently work also is very big on ergonomy.
