Finally snow! I went up to the lavvu and made lunch over the campfire. It was a cold and beautiful winter day for the Viking bushcrafter here in Norway!

I have a full moustache. I love to have peanut butter on toast (you can imagine how messy that is, lol). The forest creates a microclimate , making it warmer in winter, and cooler in summer. And as you say, the forest will keep anyone alive, if they have taken the time to learn about it, and they respect it. Another awesome video, Bjørn. I'm glad I had dinner before I watched, even then my tummy was rumbling at the thought of chicken curry, lol

Ah, chicken curry is good. I have to stock more of that one. Yes, that is the word - microclimate. I often forget the words when I talk to the camera.

How to light a fire with a ferro rod... The quickest and easiest method that works for the individual, I would call the "right way". Same as the bowdrill or any other method. Personally, I prefer a cigarette lighter, but carry a ferro rod in case it runs out / gets lost / or what ever. Why? Because I find the easiest and most efficient. Am I right? probably not. But when cold and / or hungry I see no point in wasting effort by doing things the "proper" way ;) Thanks for another great video Bjorn!

Its good to learn all skill sets but to pick and be proficient in a few/couple only that work in all environments. A lighter is the way forward yes but you cant beat rock n steel for long term replacement. If like me you go from a 34 year old fit healthy lad to 39 and weakened to the core by a series of health problems of which there is no recovery then strenuous friction fire methods that i could once do easily are out of reach now. The physical activity creates issues that can kill me so i'll go with a lighter, matches or flint n steel. I simply cannot do friction fire anymore and boy have i tried. Weak to the core. Its point often overlooked. Only do what you can do. Wasting energy in a serious scenario can be the life or death knell if you burn out.
@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen
@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen 5 жыл бұрын
Very sensible. Have the most secure way of lighting a fire available, and consider everything else a secondary alternative, I say. But I rarely find myself in a situation where I can not take some extra time lighting my fire. I like to do it a bit more complicated.

@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen Bjorn, have you ever thought about getting an emergency Locator Beacon? They don't cost that much you can put them in your backpack. If you ever fall and hurt yourself or something else happens you can initiate the beacon and they can find you within about 10 ft to where you are. Since you're out there alone a lot of times it might be a good investment for you. If you fall and break a leg or something like that this could save your life. Regards, Q

@@BjornAndreasBull-Hansen just wanted to tell you that you should consider putting that food in the stainless pot instead of getting it out of a plastic bag. When you heat the plastic to Boiling it emits chemicals into your food . So much better for you in the long run not to put the hot water into plastic bag.. Love your videos, love your effect on mankind, and love your easygoing attitude. We all need a little bit more of this. Regards, Q

OK, now i know what I'll have for dinner today thanks to you, Bjorn. It's no quite 4 AM in the morning here, and I'm wide awake now watching your vlog. Thanks again! No mustache or beard anymore. They required too much upkeep, and I was tired of the mice coming to feed night in it... I just came back from 3 days in the high desert of California, near Joshua Tree National Monument. It's something to behold! Three days out near continuous rain- 76mm, 5°C ! I was hoping for snow! All that water, no snow where I was, but in the nearby mountains there was fresh snow. Stay warm & dry, my friend!

Hi Bjorn! At my age I started using a trekking pole or staff when out in the woods. Carrying a day pack and rifle during hunting season can throw off my balance. So while walking on steep or slippery ground a staff keeps me from slipping and falling. Yes, I have a “cookie duster” (mustache) that saves a snack for later😜. Good video as always! Farvel, venn!

Call me crazy, because I know the conservatives wouldn't allow this is my country (U.S.A.), but seeing how much more advanced Norway is liberally, there could probably be some compromise to ban aircraft from a swath of airspace over the inner more natural part of Norway for a certain amount of days or time each week. So you and others there could enjoy peace. Would be lovely to have that here in the U.S. over certain national parks, but like I said, in my country that would be considered far left environmentalism. And correct me if I'm wrong, but Norway is the forefront country in the world of a movement aiming to separate harmful human activities from the natural world, and I truly admire that (such as tree-cutting, electric cars, gasoline operated boats, etc.). Anyways, love your videos and keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot for your input on this matter, my friend. I think, however, that there is a lot of propaganda coming from the government here in Norway (which is conservative, by the way) concerning the environmentalism. The deforestation has been very bad after their new law of replanting. I suspect that was a trick to get more woodland allowed for the timber industry. We also have a problem with the danger of a nuclear disaster because of the submarines patrolling our coast (those aren't Norwegian, mostly, but still), oil spills from the tankers now and then, causing large numbers of marine life and sea birds to die, and the kiling of our large predators. Now, all this could be even worse in the USA, I don't know, but it's not very great here in Norway. Also, I do think you're right and not crazy, if there was a left leaning government maybe there would have been less allowances for helicopters and such, but that's just a guess.

A lot of so called environmentalist jargon is used as a front to scare people into giving up their individual freedom. Real environmentalist talk is not about taking away people's freedom. Large corporate entities need to be held accountable.

Yep, beard! Finally snow, thats great! Where are you in Norg? If I may ask afcourse! In the forest its as I think warmer, because the breeze that take of the warmth of your body is less than in the open! i live in the middle of a forest and walking there is always warmer then near a lake! Or in the open! Again thank you for sharing! Med vänlig hälsning!

Well Bjorn, thankfully I don't have a mustache or a beard. I do agree it is much warmer amongst the trees in the woodland compared to the open areas. I have noticed that. I love walking out to my little spot in my woods but love even more once I get off the main, more open path.

I cannot yet grow a beard so I shall be left without any snacks for later. The trees act as shelter from the wind and weak insulation. I also think that the warmer colours of green and brown of the trees make a warmer ambience and take the edge off the cold!

Full lbeard and 'Tache . Unfortunately quite white in colour. Small children often mistake me for Father Christmas In fact, only this morning, a small boy asked me if I was indeed the Santa man! A quick tip . If your beard should turn frosty white .Eat only a diet of porridge...Nobody will notice the food your saving for later.
