After my girlfriend died in a car accident, I held everything in from everybody. It was on my face, but I had no emotions. My cousin Invited me to a Foo Fighters concert a couple weeks later. I dragged myself out of the house. I was driving through Houston and this song came on the radio. I erupted in tears, uncontrollably. I had to pull over. I still remember how good it felt to finally cry.

Same happened to me mate, well not with this song but same situation. I'm honestly here on a boo hoo fest after having a big ugly cry earlier today over some shit I can't control. And I think that's really it as men if we can't be there and protect it eats us alive inside. I spent 20 years after I lost mine in a place where I had no control over anything and pretty much lost everything, even moved on now and married another lady who honestly deserves better than me. Nothing ever feels right anymore. But hey I'm still here just trying to help anyone else who will listen.

I saw Evanescence live in 2018 when they were on their Synthesis tour. They were backed by a live orchestra and they played this song. I had just lost my mom to cancer and this song reminded me of her. Before they began to play the song, Amy said she wanted to dedicate it to a friend of hers who had lost their mother to cancer. Needless to say, that performance devastated me. I was bawling like a baby.

What a beautiful song, I will never forget the first time I heard it, I was in the hospital recovering from an accident caused by a drunk and I lost someone very important to me, I was lying in the hospital bed all day staring at the ceiling, as if my soul had gone somewhere else, my parents were there all the time and I didn't react to them, my friends visited me and I was the same it's as if the world had lost color and I couldn't hear anything they were telling me, I only thought about why it was me who had survived, but one day my best friend, the girlfriend of my friend who had died in the accident that I survived, lay down on my hospital bed, hugged me and played me this song... I have never cried so much as that day, since then every time I hear this song it reminds me of that day and I feel a shiver run through my body, how good it is and how heartbreaking it is, literally this song saved me from the abyss I had fallen into and I always give it my all. thanks to amy lee for this song

The entire Fallen album is an absolute goth-metal masterwork. When this came out there wasn't anything else like it in mainstream music. Yes there were some fantastic similar bands that predated it (Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, etc.) but, in the US at least, this was the breakthrough for that style of music. Definitely a top 5 all time album for me.

If you love Amy, you have to, absolutely have to, check out Floor Jansen. Floor is currently the lead vocalist of the symphonic metal band, Nightwish. Most Americans that hear Floor instantly make the connection to Amy, but Floor's role in NW allows her to show more of her classical training than Amy does in a NuMetal band. Floor has the beauty and power of Amy, but ads greater range (highest to lowest note) and greater options (she sings many different styles) and even in many different languages including English, Spanish, German, Finnish, Danish, and even Latin. She sings opera, classical, show tunes, rock, metal, pop, and even 14th century Christian hymns, lol. I love Amy too, but Floor is just simply one of the best vocalists of our time... and if you love Amy, there is lots of cross-over here. Most everyone that loves Floor loves Amy, and vice-versa. Check out the following: Floor doing metal: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ-won6QYrSdqposi=TZP9L-7JrB1SCoaM Floor doing show tunes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp2mhJagq6mCgK8si=ezZAhme3f1lnzbmk Floor doing Disney: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2nWZ42aq6aZh80si=NPdoVmYAM-2qdKNI Floor doing acoustic folk: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4rXnIOme76thdEsi=B1CNPB_QR8v8L1YO Floor doing top 40 pop: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m5aWmmpoYq2BbNEsi=hanUyXheEn-UAoK7 and believe it or not... this is just a taste... just a beginning. If you like her, you can search KZbin for her or for Nightwish say 2013 or newer (they had 2 other singers prior to Floor joining) to find more...

It took me almost 20 years to understand the video. Amy killed herself and only her ghost wanders through the video. That's why her wrists are wraped and she's never touching the ground. Her husband/boyfriend runs around town after the funeral dealing with the pain. I always thought that the two of them had just broken up.
@brianthompson924111 ай бұрын
That’s a brilliant interpretation of the video.
@detectivekornfed11 ай бұрын
The lyrics of "My Immortal" were written by Ben Moody, based on the death of his beloved grandfather. It seems correct that the character Amy portrays in the music video is dead, and yes, that's the symbolism of her never touching the ground, though the manner of her death is not specified. To me, her attire and hair style and decoration are a striking visual stylistic choice, esp as the video is in black and white. The lyrics are supposed to be of the person mourning, so in this video, that's Ben, although of course, Amy is singing them.

…It’s been 23 years since my 3 year old daughter died after fighting as hard as she could against cancer. I’ll admit to going through ups and downs even today. This song was both a blessing and a curse, although I’ll never call it a curse. Oddly it helps me to feel closer to my daughter in a strange way. I’d hope that where ever she is, that she knows How much she’s missed. The line about “wiping away all of your tears”…. At one point I can’t explain the pain I held back, while trying to reason with her, that she needed to go to chemo again. She would go into fits and be crying so badly not wanting to go. She didn’t understand. Why she had to do something that made her feel so badly? Music for me is a very intimate thing. I never listen to music passively. When I do listen to music it’s intentionally and I’ll even replay a song over and over just to saturate myself within it and try to walk around within the song and it’s recording and see if theirs more too it from the inside? Listening for instruments or how a guitar is played etc. I stumbled upon your YT channel a couple years ago and loved it. You taught me to search for other things within music that helped me to appreciate songs even more. Tonight, well… all day I’ve kinda been off planet. I retreat sometimes. It’s my time to be sad. I allow myself that. With the condition that I can’t allow it to go on too long. I close off and don’t talk to others for a few days. Don’t leave the house etc. and I take a break from the day to day… and I wade into the feelings I’ve had, but try to not let hurt me in the day to day. At times like this music plays a big role. Ammie Mann has a song that triggers me. It’s Not going to Stop… Foo Fighters acoustic slow version of Times like these is another. And this song you’re reviewing. I actually sought out the song tonight and then thought about your channel. I thought, wow… I wonder if you had reviewed any of this ladies songs? So I did a search and was happy to see you had reviewed this very song. ( sorry, I haven’t seen all your videos ). Anyway, I’m glad you heard it and reviewed it. And I’m glad to have seen your review. You add to my appreciation of what it takes to make these songs so special. This one already has a place. But you made it just a little more special. Thank you.

Can fit many moods and even some of the newest performances, she still sounds like this. Her doing the music video Speak to me is one of the newest ones she done and is spectacular on and even when she did a recorded Duet with Lzzy from Halestorm on Break In (recorded in a studio for the video and not one of their lives) she harmonizes with Lzzy so well that people are amazed that they sound so great together. If Amy's voice is like a chilling fog then Lzzy's voice is like a smoky fire. Speak to me is like 6 years ago and the Break In duet is like 3 years ago so fairly recent.

20 years later, and she's still the best vocalist I think I've ever heard in my life. Fantastic control and range, and such a depth of emotion that she conveys. Also, the version without the band really has a different flow and feeling to it.

I loved this song so much when it came out that I played it on repeat on many days. The live version from "Anywhere but home" DvD / CD pack, to me, is even better.

This and other Evanescence songs were what I wanted to see you cover. I was kind of stunned you hadn't ever covered a song sun by Amy Lee. Beyond any doubt she is the best female vocalist I've ever seen live. She's incredible.

My experience wasn't that great because of sound issues, Amy was great, don't get me wrong, and even with the issue this song still hits, but Bring me to Life was the song that was really special. And it's not that it it's a better song, it's just they shot the video in Bucharest before people knew who they were and then over 10 years go by before they finally come back and play for us and she mentioned that it's wild it took so long and everyone cheered and the vibe was more Oh, we missed you the first time and for the years ever since but now you're back! Welcomeeee! A lil full circle there. I wanted to mention 2 other female singers that are mindblowingly good and I am pretty sure there's reactions to them too around here and those are Mariza, who when I saw her, walked off the stage and into the seated crowed was singing Gente de Mihna Terra while greeting people with a smile and they would stand up to greet her and to a little nod back and then sit down so there was this wave following her around. And you will find how much that songs means to Portuguese people and how generous to share it with us connect so we understand that she is talking about us too. What a gift! The second is Lara Fabian, I recommend Caruso because it's funny if you see the footage where she talks about the song too because she switches languages so efortlessly there a friend of mine was like, no way now she is just showing off. Also her live version of Je t"ame in Paris where there was sort of a moment like one i experienced above but it was the audience who was the gift giver and it's just a wild thing. I saw her twice, first time it blew my mind that she or any human can actually sound like that. Like she took one breath into the microphone and I was already crying. And the second time she was sick, she had a cold and a fever, but she had to reschedule the concert before and she didn't want to do it again so she sang despite lots of people saying that we'd get it, and the audience immediately saying yes, rest! But she was like Thank you, but no I'm here, let's see how it goes XD. And she sounded amazing. It was barely noticeble that she had a cold while singing .. including the very difficult songs and when she was speaking it was glaringly obvious. It was so odd seeing thousands of people being like.. Are you sure? It's ok, you don't have to.. Really, we don't mind, we want to rest and recover and she was like, eh I can do it tomorrow but today let me sing for you. You should check them out and see if you vibe with them. I'm curious what were the other songs you wanted to see covered here?

The very first time I heard this I'd just helped bury my twin sister/best friend two months before that my step dad passed I was in a very low and dark place I can not tell you how many hours I spent in my room on my bed crying with this song on repeat I didn't want to live I eventually overcame the darkness and this song helped so much

Hey kids. Gen-X metalhead here. This is the song that first cemented my realization that a human voice is capable of frequencies that not only cut through the noise, the static, and the bass, but also the notions, the walls, the armor you've built up around your heart, and those frequencies. Just. Destroy you. Disrespectfully explained, it's that muppetty tone. More respectfully, I call it brassy. I think it's a clench at the nasal opening and a relaxing of something else just above the larynx, but it expands a space in there, and it makes a voice resonate so emotionally, somehow. It's a trumpetty, brassy sound, yes, but it starts with that Kermit the Frog imitation. Put a little subtlety into controlling that, and you're breaking hearts. Amy Lee masters this. Sinéad O'Connor (Shuhada' Sadaqat, rest her soul) had it, too, although I didn't really lock it down as a thing until much later. David Bowie also had it. Evolution worked out that some critters absolutely refuse to let their fellow critters know they're suffering. Evolution then added the teary-eye (to us, at least), so when grandpa swears to any deity you care to name that he's fine, you can tell by the leaking eyes that he needs help. Similarly, some of us inherited a vocal quirk. Like how instinct makes it impossible for a healthy, responsive human to ignore a baby's cry (and damn the cats for using it so effectively against us, the cute, fuzzy little shits), some of us have that brassy tone in our voices that commands attention, something close to pity, nearly heartbreak. You hear that tone, and just like how you want to ask the weeping stranger if they need help, that tone of voice compels you to consider the singer's state of heart. Amy Lee's voice breaks my heart. And I love it. Edit: Also, Robert Smith.

“They” the music industry overlords changed the hertz years ago so that we didn’t feel the Power of Love hit our heart chakras. Listen to stuff now and tell me it does what this did just 15-20 years ago... It’s out there, but rare ~ 🙏🏻⬆️🇺🇸
