One of my favorite bands of all time. Have You Heard the News by Talk Talk is another dark classic from 'The Party's Over, 1982.

Great reaction! I think you summed up the key components that makes Talk Talk special; Hollis voice, the instrumentation and the production. This gives them a red thread despite starting off with synth pop and ending with post-rock. I love both their early and late stuff, but I think Colour of the Spring kind of captures the best of both their early and late stuff. It's My Life is also a great album and I can really recommend their live performance in Montreux!

Sounds very moody, dreamy grey skys synth music, typical cold British weather and sentiments 😮

You should really put the entire album on. Incredible album, incredible group. A fan from the beginning. Don’t let opinions taint yours, The Party’s over is a masterpiece of its time as well.

You’re tempting me to get a full Talk Talk reaction set onto KZbin!
@tikimicheal12 жыл бұрын
@@AlexHaitz you really should. I am the older fan that still has ALL of the originals of this group’s vinyls, cds and extended plays on vinyl. Each purchased on their premiere dates back in the day. Each album is a world within itself, no two really alike. Even have Marks solo and the Orang project experiment the other members produced. I’m really enjoying your channel/reviews and the groups you spotlight. Our taste are very similar. I feel the same way about The Chameleons Uk as I do Talk Talk. You’ve touch on many loved songs and groups. If I had one suggestion for you to take a shot at, I would recommend Peter Murphys album Love Hysteria. It’s an album unlike anything he had ever done before and incredibly well done. An album that blew me away much like the Talk Talk albums and The Chameleons UK. I love and look forward to future gems that you surprise me with man.

This song , along with the video, is briliance. Mark rarely disappointed, always something different. Probably my favourite Talk talk song, can listen and it provokes my mind or just enjoy it with less depth.

Not sure which version of its my life you are familiar with, but IMO the 12” US mix / original 12” version is the best version. On streaming there are a few but I’d reccomemd thr version on the compilation titled electrospective : the remixes. I think the 12” verison is far better because it is much slower paced and has a longer instrumental section.

I rather envy younger folk having these YT channels to get turned on to music like this. Maybe because I grew up hearing old music - from Bach to Bessie Smith - on the radio stations and the the vinyl my parents had.

You really should go back to the origins...yes, Partys Over is a new wave synth pop wonder...but a lush richness of sound, hollis' vocals....unheard of anywhere at thaht time. A drop the needle and go...not one bad song on the album it was a uniqueness waiting to explode, and they didnt let us down. I feel bad you couldnt have watched them evolve, experiment expand over time. Amazing group

Imagine listening to A Day In The Life first and then complaining about Love Me Do being too simplistic.

The video is really cool. Basically Mark Hollis making faces while wearing several different outfits, which are all horrible as the 80s fashion was atrocious.

The Party Is Over - you have to hear it as if it was 1982 and not 2022. It can sound very of it's time now with all of their subsequent releases and growth in mind..
