I'm glad you like it, as Pet Shop Boys are my favourite group. Being Boring is considered one of their best songs, but was never a big hit by their standards at the time. I can wholeheartedly recommend the album Behaviour, of which you have just listened to the first track, and autumn is the best time to hear it. It's very moody and almost easy listening at times. That latter isn't typical of Pet Shop Boys, who are also known for their dance energy, but they've always written ballads. Other classic albums are Please (West End Girls), Actually (It's A Sin), Introspective (Left To My Own Devices) and Very (Go West).

It’s one of the most beautiful songs of all time, about growing up, Neil moving to London, losing friends (during the AIDs pandemic) and the video! Basically let’s just get a load of models in a mansion and film it! It’s an all round class package!

And you are right - they do have a warm, comforting vibe to a lot of their music. Of all the big synth pop bands to come out of that era, PSB were, in my opinion, the most literate, sophisticated, and emotionally intelligent (with the possible exception of Depeche Mode) - even right from their beginning. And even when their lyrics seemed cynical.

Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode are both utterly brilliant in my opinion. I still feel like Pet Shop Boys go under the radar for a lot of people though and don't get nearly enough recognition.

Fantastic song. Today their music is still phenomenal and yet so underrated. If you like their warm stuff try elysium or hotspot.

I grew up in the 80s and was a massive synthpop fan so hearing bands like New Order, Yazoo and The Pet Shop Boys was phenomenal. The Pet Shop Boys had a lot of warmth in their music. Personally, I loved Suburbia, Opportunities, Go West and the 'Very' Album. I don't think this song was a big hit, perhaps more of a fan favourite. It was a great choice of song though because if people were recommending this band, this song would be in the top 5. Also thank you so much for your New Order reaction videos and Smiths reaction videos.

‘So hard’ was the lead-single for the album ‘Behaviour’. ‘Being boring’ is the opening track though.

I truly believe Behavior. is their best album! Lennon/McCartney-style songwriting inside synth-driven pop music that morphs seamlessly to every decade its in, but really shines the most here. There’s so many subtle details and nuances that balance perfectly on this album.

I didn't realy like this song when it was released. I was young, and altough I loved Pet shop Boys, this wasn't energetic enough, or not upbeat enough. I couldn't understand the mood or the meaning of the song. Now it's my favorite song by them. I find it so moving, nostalgic and just beautiful.

This song is about the hardship of being gay and having to deal with people he knew, cared about dying of AIDS. The pinnacle of the song is when he says "all the people I was kissing, some are here, some are missing in the 1990s."

Fantastic song that tells a poignant story across its verses... the title of the song is derived from a Zelda Fitzgerald quote, "She refused to be bored chiefly because she wasn't boring."

@@billyboy17ify There are some things that are bad for your physical health that improve your mental health. If smoking a cigar once in a while cuts off 5 years from my life but improves my remaining years, I see that as a reasonable trade off. Also, I don’t do any inhalation, so no cigarettes or vapes.
