There was proof that the run was unverifiable. TWT explained this in the video. Unverifiable doesn't necessarily mean cheated, but when it comes to official leaderboards it is important that the runs can be verified.

Everyone saying that they shouldn’t have verified it because of current rules, should then say that ALL WRs placed before the current rules that didn’t adhere to the current rules should be REMOVED from the leaderboards. The rule that LOLs 6 broke didn’t exist when they ran the seed. The rule was created IN RESPONSE. Meaning that the run was not in any violation of any rules when it was submitted, rather they made up a new rule just to stop that run from being verified

the reason it wasn't verified originally despite technically following the rules when it was submitted was because it was on a seed list and he acted pretty weird about the run when it happened (he took 41 minutes to tell anyone he got it)

What i think speedrun leaderboards should do is add a type of placement to their leaderboard, like a ghost placement if you will, that shows the run's time and placement, but doesn't affect other run's placements, and comes with a disclaimer that it cant be officially verified. that way the runners get the recognition they deserve but also doesn't really risk a fake run getting recognition it doesn't deserve.

If laws from the real world were somehow implemented into Minecraft speedrunning, the mod team's initial judgement of LOLs run would have broken the Ex Post Facto law, which basically states that laws created after someone commits an act can't be used to convict someone in court. In this case, the mod team literally made up a rule that specifically targeted LOL's world record run. That was just plain unfair.

I think verifying the original run at this point was a mistake. Lol896 just claimed a new world record under the current rules, and the sub-7 is still invalid under the current rules. Suddenly verifying an old run that doesn't follow the new rules is just asking for confusion and controversy. The minecraft speedrun team's response to having inconsistent rules that seem biased, is to be more inconsistent. Seems legit.

Personally, I think if the runner can prove that the resource pack only alters Menu UI (excluding inventory) and not ANY game textures then the pack should be viewed as a skin and not a texture pack. (when it comes to speed running) I think the reset faster packs should be legal. Then again, I am not part of the community, and if they are fine with what it is now then there is no issue. However, in my opinion it was the wrong decision in the first place to reject a run based on rules changed after the run was submitted. The correct decision (even if it took a year) was to let the run stand as valid. Congrats to LOL869! It is a rare occurrence for the bedrock time to be lower then java. Well earned.

The run should have remained unverified. The fact is that if this one an unknown runner with their first submission for example, it would never get verified because there's no trust factor. The fact that this run got verified hints at personal relationships and bias, muddying the objective verification of runs with what is essentially a popularity contest (or at the least, requiring you to be a "veteran" to an extent). I don't have a reason to believe the run was cheated, but that's not the point. Verification should be objective and rigorous. Anything that sways from that harms its legitimacy. Does that mean we can't trust the verifiers or the leaderboard anymore? Of course not. But we should be very wary of this becoming a trend.

It's is possible to use resource packs to cheat, the run used one exactly when this was discovered, they don't have a way to confirm it nor deny that he cheated.
