Honda Manufacturing of Indiana (Greensburg Production Plant)

Honda’s fourth U.S. auto plant, began production of Civic Sedans in October 2008 and for exports in September 2009. The plant will add production of the Honda CR-V in early 2017

There are two leading (Advanced) automated car manufacturing in the world. the first most efficient and well-engineered is European car manufacturing. 2 the Japanese which is very close to the European standard. I hate to say this as an American. but the worst automated car manufacturing is right here in the US. even today in 2020. if you look closely at the process of car manufacturing and assembly in a European plant you will see a huge difference at the End product. same for Japanese. but Here in the US automated car manufacturing is YEARS behind the rest. in the US the workers are not as well trained. automation engineering is Very poor, to say the least. very poorly organized and inefficient.very poor quality control. giving the customer a much inferior product. (automotive unions destroyed this country's ability to compete) US workers have to be thankful for Japanese engineers who take bigger pride in their products. manufacturing cars right here in the US. so at least learn from them. but even that is not being done. It always baffled me. why the quality & engineering of an American car is inferior and less efficient. after all. most of the car manufacturing is all automated. by CNC (which is a dying trade here in the US) its time to hire better far better engineers. and Far better quality control.

The japanese should take back control of their US plants. The "American management" is running honda and their quality standards straight under. I came back to Honda year ago. I left in 2007. The difference is huge! Quality is out the window! Times have changed and it's time for the Japanese to take over their company again. It is like night and day😢 😢😢😢

I start in about two weeks. I am wondering exactly what I’ll be doing and what orientation is like I was told I’ll have to wait a year before Honda actually hires me. I’m going through a company called Kelly. I’ve heard all good things. My plan is to stay here until I retire. Hopefully it’s not temporary and it can be permanent. Does anybody have any advice?

Why do the workers wear uniforms at Honda but not at the American owned car factories ?

Its the Japanese culture. Most Japanese companies make everyone wear the same uniforms rather you are in upper management or a machine operator. I work for a Japanese company who actually makes the hub, transmission, and differential bearings for cars including this plant here. (Actually my plant is located about a 45 minute drive from this plant.) Anyways, all of us there wear the exact same uniform.

I guarantee you those paint imperfections don't take only 10 - 20 seconds to get rid of.

Not when the entire area has to be repainted. There are thousands of cars waiting to be fixed at any given time. Those robots were old and junk when they got them. People spend their weekends fixing errors that should never have existed. It takes a long time to fix those paint defects, and at the end of the day, the bumpers and bodies arent painted with the same paint and thus dont match. Look at any civic or crv and pay attention.

I have run in and out of the different plants for Toyota and Honda, I see the employee parking lots and figure the employee discounts must not be up to par because their is not much loyalty to the brands.

In the non-union Japanese factories here in the USA the quality is 98% there when compared to products from Japan. What makes this possible is the "culture" inside the company as well as the values of the people doing the work.
