It's sometimes said that it's not really a 'Who song' because it's so uncharacteristic, but I'd say that being so different is part of what makes it great! And isn't it unrepresentative of Pete's solo material too? Incidentally, Pete said at a Who gig I saw in London a few years ago that there's a version they recorded with an excellent lead vocal from Roger. He thought this deserved to be heard one day.

Totally.. except The SOUND of the drums could have been a little fatter for my liking. Some people hate on Kenney as a bad Keith Moon replacement... but I think The Who's songs from the 80s were 'victims' of the 1980s themselves: thin drums. If you were lucky to get real drums at all. But yes, straightfoward drums are definitely what this song needs. I would just prefer a bit thicker SOUND, is all. 👍

Though never being a big Who fan, this particular track would be one of my few favourites of them, particularly from their final two [80's] album releases with Kenny Jones. I've often wondered how this tune would have sounded had Keith still been alive on it ... I think many of the songs from those two albums _(Face Dances_ and _It's Hard)_ not only represented some of the very best evolutionary process towards a more mature-sounding Who, but essentially, captured the very essence of just 'who' they really are.

So true on all counts. Bass players get short changed in every single music video ever produced. I've never understood that. They are an integral, critical component of every rock band. Omitting them is a sin.

Hey Randy, October ‘82 was going to school in NoLa and rented an old milk truck/van drove to Mobile to see The Who (Farewell Tour) and that was the first time I heard “Eminence Front” (live) and been hooked ever since. Mobile, Al holds a special place in my heart. Peace/out from CO

The perfection of Pete Townshend and John Entwistle. They literally just GO OFF.. incredible bad asses! I could literally not live my life complete without The Who. @@sharksport01 Overused or not, iconic is the applicable word for this band and this song. The Who are rock icons. Considering I saw them perform Eminence Front in the encore which followed Won't Get Fooled Again at the conclusion of their concert in Arrowhead Stadium in 1989 and it's now 2023 that would make it an iconic song from an iconic band.

I love watching Roger Daltrey taking that deep breath while playing guitar. If I'm right, this was filmed at the Capital Center in Washington, DC, just before the opening night of their tour. Roger hadn't played guitar in the band since the early 1960s, which explains the deep breath.

I understand he quit playing guitar because during the day he worked in a sheet metal factory and his fingers would get sliced up. It became too painful to then play the guitar at night.
