I always liked weasels too. I think they are pretty badass. The tiny least weasel can take out a full grown rabbit.

Hey. Just saw your video from march and the lynx We don't have them here but we do have bobcat. When I was young an old timer said they were like veal. He said the meat had to be beaten to tender it. Not over cooked. I spent a lot of time hoping to shoot one and try it. Then they were protected. Thanks for the vid. Frank in Mass. US.

Hi. Got 2 martens last weekend, one in a trap and one tracked my dog up. Now the cold has come to Sweden as well, so I hope I got another marten in my 13 traps. I mostly hunt red foxes with a drifting dog. Fun to follow you🤠

Heh.. that fish is gonna feed that Wessel for more than a little while.. that piece is like 3x his body weight. That's like someone throwing you half a cow lol.. Good Guy Andrew taking care of his little buddies.
@torianholt27524 жыл бұрын
Weasels and other mustelids have very high metabolic rates though, especially when it's that cold, the little guy will probably finish that chunk as fast as he can chew through it.

Good to see you're doing well Andrew. Glad that cold snap finally left so you can get back to work. Love the view from your "office window" lol. Hope things pick up for you real soon and you can start getting some fur hanging in the skinning shack. If I knew where to get that lure you need, I'd send it up to you. Take care, stay safe and have a great time!

Nice work Andrew. Martin can be finicky to figure out. They are pretty susceptible to over trapping. A lot of guys will use a personal quota system on how many mature females they catch, and then pull all traps. Awesome video.

I once watched a weasel track and catch a mouse in the snow. I saw the mouse, a little while later I watched the weasel put it's nose to the path. It dove down a hole and I heard the squeak. Pretty neat.

Save all of your lynx liver and kidneys. Grind them up and let the paste ferment in a plastic jar with a lid on(empty peanut butter jars works great) take old long John's and cut them into 4" squares, put a big tablespoon or two of the fermented lynx paste in it and fold two corners together. Run a piece of hay wire through the corner with a long tail on it so you can wrap it around a nail on the tree. At the end of the year you can pull them off and put them back into a jar and use them again the next year. Works like a hot damn.

Marten are always that way beginning of season juvenile are dispersing so you will always catch more in Nov, they slow down in dec and seem to pick up in Jan a bit again. As for tracks when snow gets deeper they travel quite well without making tracks on top of the snow they tunnel very well. That’s what I have found in my parts anyway. If you are catching too many adult female pull the traps, in those 10 if more than 2 were adult F I’d pull them
@jamiebob25994 жыл бұрын
You gotta use beaver for the marten. I’ve used everything beaver by far the best.
