You just listened to the GREATEST FEMALE SINGER in Music History.LISA GERRARD is my.....and from Millions around the World.....Voice Goddess of All Time....I had the Privilege to see /feel her Live 2 Times Solo and 2 Times with Brendan Perry/DCD as the Band.She must be made in outer Space,because her Voice is Beyond our small Planet.She won an Oscar together with HANS ZIMMER for Gladiator and recorded with KLAUS SCHULZE (R.I.P. Godfather of Electronic Music).......This song will be my FUNERAL SONG! (Fixed in my Testament!)

I played this song for a Buddhist monk, when the song was over he said “ if anyone ask me what God sounds like I will have them listen to this song. She speaks the language of the Gods.” ❤ To this day I cry each time I hear this song, and this to will be played at my funeral, along with Return of the She-King.

As others have said, Host of Seraphim is a good next song or Cantara as well. Do yourselves a favor and see Dead Can Dance live. They just announced their US tour and they don't tour often. Last time was in 2012. It's a religious experience. Her range is stunning, the voice of an angel. They also have a male singer who sings in English mostly.

Sully Erna, the lead singer of Godsmack, is a huge fan of Dead Can Dance. His solo album Avalon features him & a female singer named Lisa Guyer. Its kinda of his rock version of DCD. Not as ethereal as DCD but still really good. Check out the song "My Light" , its about how the birth of his daughter changed his life.

I love soo much that you guys like this song! This song was such an important part of my youth and it makes my eyes water when I see your reaction of never hearing it before...and liking it so much! Dead Can Dance has a very extensive catalog back to 1985 I believe. Along with Lisa Gerrard's solo albums which there are many! I've loved their music since I was 13 back in 1986! I just turned 50 years old and Dead Can Dance is still one of my most cherished bands! They are so worldly....so soothing....so thought provoking especially since Lisa sings in such complex words and phrases......just like Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins. It makes my heart so happy that you really liked this music! It's hard for me to type cuz my eyes are watery from being so happy to see a new generation really understand and like their music. It was an extremely important staple of my teens....and twenties....and thirties....and yes they were still making music into my forties! If I may suggest a few songs..if you liked this one. Chant Of The Paladin from the album "The Serpents Egg".......a very much beloved song back in its time. It sounds ritualistic but Lisa's several layers of vocals and pitches will make your heart swoon. Song Of The Stars from the album "Spiritchaser" ...a lengthy song but man it's so upbeat and infuses both singers vocals into a rich danceable tribe like audio ecstasy. Meltdown by Lisa Gerrard from the movie soundtrack "The Insider". One of her solo songs infused with a trip hop style slow percussion that just makes you want the song to last forever! Their discography is very lengthy......add in Lisa's solo works and you're looking at over 17 albums of the most amazing pieces of work that have ever been crafted. The three I've mentioned would give a nice rounded out version of early.......latter.....and solo works. Plus also having to mention Yulunga from the album "Into The Labyrinth" what a piece of work!! I thank you both for your amazing videos...they really uplift me and make me happy......especially when you're reacting to stuff from the 80's which is where my soul still is. If you get a chance to listen to any of these songs I've mentioned from Dead Can Dance I'd love to know if you liked them.......going on my gut feeling from this video I think you'll really enjoy and like some of my suggestions. Thank you again for your amazing videos and I can't tell you how much I appreciate you bringing life back into some of the band's that I cherished so much in my years. I wish you both every good thing this world has to offer....and I simply can't say thank you enough for filling me with such emotion....it makes me so happy to see your reaction to something I've known for so long and have you appreciate it and genuinely like it. Keep up the incredible work!!!! ....it will take you far!!!!!

You have my ears my friend. I also have the same reaction to watching this video and how much they love this music. Lovely to hear someone mentioning Elizabeth from The Cocteau Twins also. I love both of these artists so much. I have a recommendation to test if you really do have my ears haha. It's a different type of music but it's also amazing. Dawn Upshaw singing Gorecki symphony number three. Best if you listen to the second movement which is beautiful. Enjoy!
@davidgalan9921
@davidgalan9921 Жыл бұрын
Hello my new you tube friend! Challenge accepted!!!! Dawn Upshaw Gorecki First movement...Lento - Sostenuto. Grabbed me.....dark....deep...then lighter with minimal instruments showcasing her beautiful voice! I don't know if it's cellos at the end but that rich deep baritone echoing just pierces my heart and fills me with such a yearning or desparative emotion.....very well done!!! II - Lento e largo......a much lighter more ethereal orchestration. I honestly felt like I was listening to Lisa Gerrard......had to keep reminding myself this was another vocalist. So beautiful.....meditative....breathtaking. Lisa doesn't have that high of a register so it took a minute to nestle in.....so beautiful and the arrangement of the music was just first class!!!! III Lento - Cantablile.......I like how this movement goes from rich and strong to quite soft.....a quite higher register as a soprano than I'm used to with Lisa Gerrard and Dead Can Dance, but still such an emotional piece of music! The arrangement and vocals were just captivating. Our of the three movements......I'm drawn to the first......simply and only because of that deep baritone cello ending....I think it was cello......anyway.....that really tugged at my heart and emotions like I was listening to a really deep goth band from back in my childhood from the 80's. Movement II was a bit lighter.....like the late 80's early 90's shoegaze bands I love so dearly. I loved this piece for its simplicity but also it's ability to engulf me into submission and force me to not miss a single note.....to open my ears wide and then wider still to absorb this rich yet delicate....powerful....moving piece of music. Thank you for suggesting this to me......I enjoyed this music very much.....all 3 movements. Gifted vocalist.....Gifted arrangement......such beautiful pieces of music!!!!

Dead Can Dance is one my top 5 favourite bands of all time and Lisa Gerard at the top of singers. I don’t know how I missed that you had reacted to this. The song is from the live performance and album “Toward The Within” and Lisa, and the entire band, put on an amazing show. In an interview during this time in the 80’s she mentioned how her daughter was learning to make sounds but didn’t have language ability yet and it got her thinking of how to use the voice as instrument but without the confines of language. She grew in a Greek/Turkish neighbourhood in Melbourne so she was able to incorporate those singing styles also.

Lisa Gerrard. One of those voices almost everyone in the world has heard - and loved - in film soundtracks and commercials, though few can name her. In her prime (80s and 90s mostly) she had one of the most overwhelmingly beautiful voices in the world. (Sadly her voice has drastically declined - avoid anything from after circa-2009, it's painful). It's a pity this particular song has been cheapened by over-exposure. Speaking as a Brit, this song has been used so often on news reports and in documentaries, and at least one commercial, to accompany any kind of tragic/poignant scene, that it's become a bit of a joke. But...I recommend you to delve into the DCD catalogue, including unofficial live stuff (lots of unreleased songs, improvisations etc) - besides Lisa, it'll also remind you what a great singer and what an interesting lyricist Brendan Perry used to be, in those halcyon days before he seemingly sold his soul to the vengeful ghost of Tim Buckley.

(Sigh) you are correct about her voice not being what it was in the 1980's and 90's. We all get old sadly. ps my fav Lisa Vocals are "Vespers" , "of Love undone" , "The promised Womb " and "Wilderness" but there are many others of course.

I disagree I love ALL her music even some of her recent projects from 2007 - 2017. There's alot of great tracks she's done post Dead Can Dance. Its very different but in a good way. I would recommend the reactors to explore more of her solo projects in recent years. Let them come to their own conclusion.

Interesting story of her, she sings In tongues on some works of hers. She said it developed after the birth of her first child. She watched as her baby cooed. She revised her baby was exploring sounds with no restrictions of language. So she adopted her baby's sounds making the words more sounds of expression. The listener makes their own reasons for the words on a primitive level. Glad you enjoyed her. Listen to more of her.

I've said it for decades,but when it comes to the most incredible female vocals - no one can match Lisa Gerrard. Many will argue that Liz Fraser from the Cocteau Twins can match her, but its not quite true. Both have the ability to produce this made up dialect,and as much as I love Liz Frasers voice,Lisa Gerrard is in another league altogether. But to possibly hear Lisa in full flight,it would be best to see her perform "Sacrifice" live,with Pieter Bourke - a totally spellbinding performance
