You always say how you like the bass so i thought you would like this. I have loved level 42 since the 80s . Mark King the lead singer is one of the best bass players around.

Retroglide was released in September 2006 and the band embarked in an extensive European tour to support it. This concert was recorded at the New Theatre in Oxford on the 31st October, 2006.
Hi, This will be something different for you guys. level 42 have been around since the late 70s. and are one of the best live jazz funk bands around. Mark King on bass and Gary Husband on drums are next level musicians. Gary has played for Allan Holdsworth and John McLaughlin. He also plays keyboards with some serious jazz musicians. Mark King also plays in a band with Stewart Copeland and Adrian Belew. Thx for this reaction, Level 42 have many great albums from 1981 through the 2000’s. 😎

I remember Mark King {the guy on the bass} being asked in an interview about compared to Madonna who they opened for one time if Madonna was in the premier league where would they be in comparison and he said 'Hampshire league?' So very humble but so talented

Mark King used to play drums originally as a young man and, I read in an article, apparently he was in the USA, he’s from the Isle of Wight in the UK, and actually visited the home of Lenny White, the drummer in Return to Forever at that time, and stupidly asked if he could join the band, which was Chic Corea’s band anyway! But he changed instrument and really made a name for himself. Level 42 had a few big hits over here, such as ‘Running in the Family’ and ‘Lessons in Love’.

I've seen Level 42 live and bass player and singer Mark King also did a drum solo

Saw them twice in the 80s, and at that time they did an extended end to this song. In that end section Mark not only did a great bass part, but did it whilst flying over the stage on wires! Next level (42?)! On one tour he was joined in the flying by Alan Murphy, who was their guitarist at the time (Alan was also incredibly talented, and died far too young - you should check him out).

Guitarist is Nathan King, Marks brother. He is another ludicrously talented guy, plays bass for a British prog band Frost. Another day perhaps.

Mark King (bassist/singer) has had his hands insured for £1,000,000 since Level 42 became big in the 1980s. He’s an incredibly normal, nice, funny guy as well as being supremely talented
