Danny Cavanagh and Anneke Van Giersbergen are friends and have worked together on a number of occasions. A great Anathema performance (featuring singer Lee Douglas) is "Untouchable pt 1&2 Live at Plovdiv". I recommend copious amounts of tissues. It is a beautiful, heartbreaking song.

Paradise Lost,My dying bride and Anathema they were the best doom metal bands in the 90s ... then Anathema changed their style but still today they are still the best band at what they do...please react to Draconian or Trees of eternity...a big hug from Buenos Aires

They were the best at what they did. Unfortunately.

Finally you came to the GREAT THREE : ANATHEMA,MY DYING BRIDE and PARADISE LOST!.....A LOT to discover now for you!.....Pioneers of the British Metal Scene,started soundwise almost the same,developed of the years very individually.Anathema went the Pink Floyd way,My Dying Bride went the DOOM Metal Way and Paradise Lost changed their style several times over the CENTURIES (!)....

Anathema is an excellent band sooo sad they are over because of COVID. I was on the very last concert from them in March. They were a metal band no more.

Ooooo, one of my long time favorite bands. You have got to do "The Beginning and the End", from the Universal DVD. Sound quality is epic.

And definitely untouchable 1&2 from same concert

Anathema are so depressing, beautiful...... but depressing.

Metal... Well, they were metal up until (and including) the Pentecost III EP. After that they moved to more dark/depressive rock with every album (which I still enjoyed, esp. the album "A Fine Day To Exit". They started out as a death metal band (like the previously mentioned bands Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride) which you'd never believe hearing their mid-90'ies and later stuff.

"were" a British metal band. Sadly they recently announced they are going on indefinite hiatus.

As already mentioned Untouchable pt1 & 2 live would be my next suggestion, then Dreaming light and/or A natural disaster. All 3 of them are stunning tracks.

Anathema is one of my absolute favorite bands, but honestly was this their best song to get started with the band? I don't think so. Try their Untouchable part 1 and 2 live ^_^

You should listen to the parallel, they are amazing
The singer and the bassplayer are identical twins, and the guitar player is their older brother, and all three have amazing hair.

And the drummer John and female singer Lee Douglas (not on this song) are also siblings.

I'm only familiar with Anathema's 'not metal' phase of their later years.
@Eliath19843 жыл бұрын
honestly that was their best phase.... I mean I listened to them from the start but I feel like when they started moving into the Prog/Atmospheric Rock Realm they really tapped into something amazing..
