Greetings from Rush's home, Canada. What you call Canadian Bacon (other than the movie of that name by Michael Moore) we (and the UK, and Ireland and the Commonwealth) call "back bacon". Of course there is Canadian ham, just not a specific named type... we are NOT egotistical, as countries go. Peace and be safe- try dipping into some other Canadian bands- Tragically Hip (Blow at High Dough) or Doug and the Slugs (Makin' It Work) or Max Webster (Battle Scar ft, Rush- all 3).

The 2 guitarists, Alex (guitar) and Geddy (bass) have been best friends since they met in junior high school. They brought in Neil (drums) after the original drummer John Rutsy couldn't tour due to health reasons. They have been together every since. There is also an isolated version of this video that is just Neil's drum part. It is excellent. Just search Neil Peart Digital Man isolated. You can hear the guitars in the background.

There’s so many great recommendations for songs (videos) to check out and share but I would suggest from their R40 tour the song Cygnus X-1. It’s a bass drums extravaganza then into a drum solo. Also the great intro to the Time Machine video, in the deli. Take care.

Neil's kit is 2 kits. His main (big) one and a smaller one behind him. He used to stand up, the kits would spin around and he would play the small kit for certain songs. The electronic pad is for percussion sounds such as a xylophone.

Neil Pearl would get into the drum kit on the back left side by the mallets. They custom-made the drum riser and stands, and one that holds the electronic cymbals folds/moves to let him get in and out of the kit. If you search KZbin, there are videos of his drum tech going over his gear as he's setting it up for a show.

I know there are real explanations for Neil’s drum kit and the logistics behind it, but I prefer to think of Neil as like a drumming Magneto. His skills are just so powerful that every percussion instrument in his vicinity gets attracted to Neil and ends up in a close orbit around him. That’s why his setup looks the way it does in the Exit Stage Left live video of Xanadu (another great reaction from The Wolf Hunterz to watch)… Neil had just visited a high school auditorium, and their whole percussion section got pulled into Neil’s drum skill vortex. 😆

Hey guy’s great channel and upload👏🏼 The pause to show Neil’s kit was nice gave people an overhead perspective of how great(seems like there should be another step above great)Neil Peart was.. saw them too many times to count but my experience(which was kind of a good thing)was that if you had floor seats or even second level seats didn’t matter because all seriousness it was almost impossible to see the guy because not only was his drum kit huge around..it was also piled up really high too but on the floor and a level up you could make out usually just the top of his head but the whole kit would just shake the whole time😁..I’m kinda old school (that’s code for REALLY old)but that situation in particular is when even I like having the big screens all over the place so you don’t miss any details of the show..last thing IMO once they became a big name on the concert scene they started IMO writing songs for the purpose of playing them live even though they were great studio tracks as well..try “ Dreamline” off the Roll the bones album..handful of shows In went to they opened with it and to me it’s still a perfect live opener and great both ways Studio and Live..well thank you for the great content and good luck with everything else friends keep up the good work👍🏼🤘🏼

By the way as crazy complicated as the track is I’m almost positive the “Digital Man” who’s the subject of the song was the 1982 version of a “computer nerd” who I think came to fix something in their studio and the guy/kid barely said 2 words and just didn’t seem capable of even minor small talk..so they were so fascinated by him they watched his every move for the rest of the night until he was finished and then started writing the song as soon as he left😂🤣

I'm no sound engineer, but I have been a Rush fan for more than 4 years. IMO, the sound board is totally locked on "Alex Guitar Solo" levels for the whole song, which means the bass and drums do not get to shine as they should in the early melodic parts of this song. The whole thing is just muddy. I highly recommend that you listen to the studio version so you can really hear the individual parts just...pop, and bounce. This song has such a wonderful, clean, light reggae sway to it, and it's very much lost in this recording.
@dcfevens7832 жыл бұрын
The original release of Signals had the guitars too low in the mix - and Alex even mentioned that in interviews. Only when I hear the Time Machine tour and they are doing songs from Signals do I feel that the guitars finally have the presence they should have had in the beginning. Just my opinion.
