Icarus... In ancient Greek mythology, Icarus (Ikaros) was the son of Daedalus (Daedalos). Daedalos was an ancient Greek skillful architect and craftsman, seen as a symbol of wisdom, knowledge and power. Loooong story short, Daedalos and Icarus were imprisoned by the Minoan King (King Minos of Crete). Daedalos created wings for both of them to escape from the island of Crete and go back to mainland Greece by flying. On of the components of the wings, that bound together the structure was wax. Daedalus warned his son not to fly close to the sun because the wax will be melted and he will fall. Icarus in his youth and slight arrogance did not listen to his father, and the sun melted his wings, resulting Icarus to fall and die.... Many meaning behind this story right??!! Anyway the place that Icarus died in the Aegean sea is Icaria, an island with the name devoted to Icarus... For more Greek mythology let me know :)

This is a "fresh" take on the story of the mad scientist, more specifically the irresponsible scientist. Their hubris leads to destruction because they can't understand the difference between "Is" and "ought". This is an even more sophisticated version because Daedalos has all the right qualities and he in fact is NOT the scientist filled with hubris. His creation is made from necessity, not just scientific curiosity. His creation is trying to do something humans always aspired to do, fly. His objective is to save his own life and especially his son's life. Everything about him is noble. And yet... When put on the hands of a person without his qualities, this creation becomes his doom. Would he still make it so he could escape if he knew his son would die? Probably not. Hubris can make the most amazing and brilliant invention become a tool of death. Usually the story would have an irresponsible scientist creating something for the sake of creating it, without thinking of the consequences. The creation would become something bad for humanity. In this case, the creator is not flawed but the price he pays is so harsh that it's scary. Even if a creator is making something that is meant to do good, others will not have his wisdom to know how to use it. This song is likely a parallel to the creation of the airplane. The first disk of Piece of Mind has the first song about war, the next song about the human condition, the next about inventions, even if invented by the best of humanity, becoming tools of disaster. The last is about war too. Iron Maiden always hits the spot with their songs.

finaly Maiden again, my beautyful people..Take a look at the cover of Flight of Icarus. EDDIE has this flamethrower, also the story of Icarus tells you why Bruce has one on the stage. Often i hear knowless idiots talking like "Ahh, look, those old guys try to be like Rammstein". Bastards,..hey, you are not that way, you always are respectful, thanks for that, guys...... and a big shout out for Bruce Dickinson, i guess you dont know that Bruce had won the fight against his Throat Cancer in 2017/18 sucsessfuly...the performence you´ve watched was in 2019...that says enough, right...oh, btw. If Maiden ever goes up in Flames, they don't go to an odinary Bonfire, they go to burn in 'Purgatory'..my MaidenBloodbrothers insider know what i mean, hehe...thank you for this one stay safe, my friends.....greetings from Colongne/Germany
