true, the glorious world of 3D leaves too many details to be spotted, and we're only focusing on the mission, as the brain does not need to fulfill any kind of environment immersion because we're seeing it on the daily basis. I happen to listen to one of these immersion during animation lesson, that the mind simply fill the gap of a missing spot in the 24fps animation and makes it even more lifelier, because the brain, simulated it.

Man, that last scare got me so good. Going through the final tunnel, realising that the blood wasn't just rising, but rising _fast_ , going as fast as I possibly could in a clunky, slow, metal death box, trying not to hit walls, praying to god that I could still _see_ the console to change my angle when I got to the destination. When I finally got all the co-ordinates in, I actually paused before turning around, because I was so very certain that _someone_ or _something_ was going to be in the camera room. I turned with gritted teeth. I had a small sense of relief. Took one step forward. And exploded into screaming and stressed laughter when the jump came. Fantastic experience

I think I got it, that anomaly was a human made star, they were probably trying to recreate the dying stars before being turned into a ocean by their own creation, that's why they were so desperate to get someone down there
@transrights91882 жыл бұрын
If that were the case, then all the other objectives wouldn't make sense, at least as I understand it. If there was such hope riding on this theory of discovering a man-made star, that would likely be the only objective, in which they would pull you out after taking that single photograph before chucking you right back in, because you aren't exactly meant to make it back; you are a guinea pig. Alternatively, it could be a jet-stream, if I have the term correctly. Seeing as the camera only provides black and white static photographs, it would be reasonable to say that this is liquid, most likely blood, flowing through this fissure at a high speed, thus causing the distortion of the photograph. The sound seems to imply this, and the sudden expulsion of the vessel from it's proximity could add to this theory, albeit loosely. To anyone now going through this comment section, I encourage you to continue on. People introduced some pretty cool ideas that you might be interested in reading. @@closet7401 Yeah, I can't adequately explain that. One could say it's the result of force being placed upon the vessel that's leading to an illusion of distortion/movement through vibration/thrust or by an increase in cabin pressure which is causing hallucinations. It would still be reasonable to say it has some form of temporal effect and that the object is anomalous in nature, seeing as it's on a moon with a blood ocean. I'm no physicist though, let alone MD, so I could be wrong.

@@transrights9188 I feel like the man made star was made by a certain group of people who got wiped out, and then the others didnt know about it. The game tells you that humans are spread out among the universe and disconnected, so I assume there was no communication when that was made, that plus the time distortion that comes with space traveling, and I feel like this theory could have some merit to it. Unnatural structures, seeming to be wrapped beneath the churning weight of billions of gallons of blood. Something fishlike, smart enough to recognize a metal contraption as prey, swimming about, stalking you. And a dying universe, filled with people lost to their own existentialism, fleetingly clinging to hope with the fervor of a madman.

What if that monster is the reason for the quiet rapture? Like it just ate everything or something. Because every star just couldn't disappear all at once, because of the time it takes light to reach us. Even if the sun disappeared suddenly the light remnants would remain for a long while, so it would make sense if it was, well, EATEN instead of vanishing. The lore is so intriguing, I wish we had more of it. Creepy, but definitely cool idea!

@@debtherooster from what I can tell, the game mentions "the ghost-light of dead stars" or something like that, so the light hasn't vanished, just the stars.
@festerdam45482 жыл бұрын
@@_herb I think the ghost light may just be the light that's still left after the stars disapeared, since light travels at a finite speed, once the stars disappear, you'll still be seeing light for a bit. You'll still get light for quite some time from former stars that are light-years away (exactly as many years as the amount of light-years between you and the star). I think that light from stars that have already vanished is what the game calls ghost-light.

The thing I find absolutely genius is how often you come across images that somewhat resemble a face, enough for your brain to recognise it, yet at the same time they're distorted just enough to be unsettlingly inhuman. Like take 15:10 for example, when you notice not only the fish, but a small thing between the two bone-like structures. It appears to have two little holes that appear to be eyes and some kind of toothy mouth, but at the same time it could just be a random piece of floating debris. As a small bonus, I noticed that none of the other particles or debris seemed to shift in the second photo he took, yet the face thing actually seemed to disappear as well as the fish, which is really subtle since in that moment most of your attention would have been diverted to the fish disappearing.

The blip beeping at you at varying speeds depending on how close you are to something is a great mechanic for building tension and suspense. It reminds me a bit of those TCAS alerts, with the robotic voices going "climb, climb now" or "traffic, traffic". Voice commands like that, especially robotic/synthesized ones, would pair fantastic with a mechanic like this in a similar horror game.

The photo you got of the fish was so cool! I didn't get anything like that to happen in my playthrough. The funny thing with the eye picture: nothing happens to you before you take it. I reversed a good distance (it chases after you) before taking the picture, but it never actually hits the sub. You'll probably blow up the submarine if you try to go eastward, but otherwise I think it's just a curious creature you're forced to stun with a blinding camera flash in order to proceed. Also, at the ending, I was almost expecting your last picture to be of a wreck of other submarines, like that others were there before you and there was no hope all along. I just got the feeling of crestfallen acceptance as the blood/water started flooding in. The craft wasn't built to resurface. But then I got jumpscared. Not quite as poetic as in my mind, but also not unexpected either, ironically.
@giacomoromano88422 жыл бұрын
@@weavilelover i guess it is a matter of what you find more scary. Personally, i think that a mountain of bones in a city would answer questions that shouldn't be answered. As it is, we don't know the answers to questions that are not frustrating, but intriguing, like: who built the artificial stuff you found? What's the anomaly? Was that the huge eye of a curious beast or something more intelligent, like some eldritch creature? What made you jump across the map? These are good questions that you can think your own answers and maybe find more stuff in the future. Instead, if you were to find a crap ton of humans remains, then your questions would just get more specific and frustrating to answers, like: why there were humans here? What was the connection between the humans and the anomaly? Why the humans went down here etc etc. This is my personal take, at least.

People have discovered that you can head straight to where the last location is and take a photo, and since the other ones haven't been done it doesn't trigger the end sequence. The final photo objective is the same building as the one in the bottom right; but also has some of those chain/tube thingies that the second photo has.

The name of the game is probably my favorite part about it. There’s something about calling the submarine an “iron lung” (which makes sense because it’s a hunk of iron surrounded by blood and gore) that just freaks me out. It also adds to the feeling of isolation somehow. As if you’re the only breathing thing in an entire body of undulating gore. Amazing concept for a game, though I probably would’ve taken a more lovecraftian and eldritch approach, personally. The idea of planet colonization and aliens in horror games don’t really do it for me. Aliens seem too “human” (in the sense that they’re restricted biology as we are) to be scary for me. Lovecraftian beings however, well they can exist without any rhyme or reason and do whatever the fuck they want. Completely boundless.
