He took tons of steriods which is a stain on his remarkable career as a fighter. But that said, he truly was the real deal. His mentality for a fighter was as good as all those in his generation. I would have 3 altogether that were unmatched in the mental game of that era. Evander 'The Real Deal' Holyfield Lennox Lewis And BIG George Foreman. Hell, George said that in his 2nd career as a fighter he never threw a punch in anger, not once! Shit man......imagine if he did! I love all 3 of these boxers/fighters, they truly are worthy fighters for all times. As much as I regard Lennox & Evander though, George scares the living hell out of me hahahah

Holyfield had a boxing career like no other of his generation. From being robbed of a gold metal in the Olympics to winning the Cruiser weight title in a 15rd war in his 12th pro fight! Fighting at a championship level the rest of his career. Winning the Heavyweight title 4 times. He fought every relevant fighter of his time. By the time he fought Lewis he had 15 years of championship level fights and 37 yrs old. Only if that fight had happened a few years earlier!

@Steevy Horton nothing to do with race, in the 1800s boxing wasnt even regulated so your argument is already flawed, don king is the man that most people remember simply because he screwed over and is hated by some little known guys like tyson, ali, nigel benn, gerald mcclellan and i could go on but i have already proven my point right
@b_de_silva
@b_de_silva 5 жыл бұрын
@Steevy Horton nobody ever said that boxing was clean before don king, and youre defending the guy, it has nothing to do with race, he created more millionaries of course he did nobody made millions in the 20s 30s 40s 50s and 60s, its just inflation in a 100 years boxers will be making billions with a single fight but a billion dollars wont mean the same as today, don king was around in a era that money worth less than earlier thats why he made a bunch of guys millionares, because there was more money in the world and boxing was becoming even more famous, gerald mcclellan needs donations just to be alive because don king got most of gerald's last purse against nigel benn wich left gerald brain damaged for life and don king not only never helped but took his money, so yes your argument is flawed.

I think that was a horribly wrong way to go about it. But when the refs let Holyfield get away with this year after year, that and doing roids for years 🙄, who do you turn to? Holyfield was a natural light heavyweight, and gained weight when training. That fact was in all the media back then. Then, when he quit training, he lost weight!! There's only one way I know this can happen, and I'm surprised so many haven't commented. Imagine someone's character, being a good, young champion in his 20s, to shoot roids, then fight a 42 year old fighter like George Foreman. He's a fucking cheater, period. Lewis's problem was he came along in a time where the division wasnt that great, and its stars, like Holyfield, were far out of their primes. So, even then beating the likes of Holyfield just carried less weight. You are only as great as your competition, and when you look back on Lewis's competition, its mostly out of their prime guys or no one at all, so thats what hurts his legacy even if he was an amazing boxer.

He was big, awkward, and unbalanced. Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman starched him with one-punch KOs....because he had ZERO chin. While I was no Lennox fan, when they called that first fight a draw I stopped watching heavy weight boxing. It was so blatantly evident that Lewis dominated the overwhelming majority of the rounds, just plain outboxing Evander, that I lost all respect for this division. Lennox was cheated of a decisive victory and I enjoy these sports to watch champions battle not to see graft or politics or a desire to restage a fight for more money. Thankfully the UFC happened and as far as boxing goes I have no regrets from leaving the sport as an enthusiastic observer.

@Neil Benjamin I think he has a shot although I think these late 90s fighters are. better. but I actually do believe fury would beat these guys although it would be close. wilder also has a shot as he hits harder than debatably any heavyweight in history although I'm sure you could make an argument for other big punchers

@@williamengel741 I'm a big Fury fan but I think he doesn't have the punch power to trouble either of these fighters and Fury is very tough and durable, so it would likely be a points decision that could go either way. Because Lennox is also tall and big with a long reach like Fury it could also be a bad clash of similar styles and make for a boring fight. I agree that the 90s heavyweights were awesome and the fights were well worth the PPV bucks because the best fought the best, they rematched straight away if there were controversial losses or draws and they fought more often.

The commentator talks about Evander being 37 years old as if he’s about to enter a nursing home, then mention Lewis being “only” 34 years old. Because of their birthdays, there’s little over 2 years between them. It’s hardly an advantage. Not one boxer ever got the better of Lewis overall. If he was beaten, he would come back and win in the rematch. Each time. A great boxer from a great boxing nation. Holyfield has the best chin, ever. He was just a mean SOB. A great guy out of the ring and great ambassador for the sport.

John Rife I’m slightly older than Holyfield was. Yeah I agree with you to an extent. Although with heavyweights it’s usually a bit older due to them relying on power rather than speed. Evander took on foreman at 44 and it went to points, so there’s always exceptions to the rule.

@@adam_p99 not for smaller busy heavyweights. Longer heavyweights last longer because they don't have to rely on reaction and movement. And Holyfeild was a smaller busy heavyweight. Like Tyson. Foreman shouldn't be used as an example of anything really. But that's a whole nother argument and I have very unpopular opinions about Foreman.

Long and short of it. Foreman was a paper champion. He was just good enough to be believable. But his story was too good. He was too likable for the sport not to set him up as a success story. He never beat a ranked fighter until he beat Michael Moorer. Who was simply a way to give the old man the belts. I'm not 💯 sure Moore threw the fight to Foreman but Holyfeild definitely threw the fight to Moore. ..... I'm leaving out a lot of details on why I believe this. But that's the gist.
