Allis Chalmers WD round baling hay with New Idea 483 baler, Summer 2023

My grandpa cut, raked, and baled all of his hay with a gas AC d-15for a few years. He used a 9’ International 990 to cut and a gehl 4x5 baler. He also, at some point, pulled a New Holland 5x5 chain baler. So, these little gas tractors can definitely get the job done.

They may have said it won't work....Those are nice bales....I bleed Red but there's a lot of Orange that runs threw my veins also. Spent a lot of time on a WD45 when I was a kid, one of my bucket list tractors, still love the old letter series Allis's. Thanks for sharing.....

Thanks for watching ! I think I can find a model I like in just about all Colours. Allis stuff just seemed to be the easiest to find when I was looking , and pops really liked them!

Brings back fond old memories. Had a N I 483 for about 10 yrs loved it. Did custom baling wonderful trouble free baler. Switched to baling silage/ haylage when it became popular. 👍👍

I was an AC mechanic for several years, and I always thought the WD/WD45 punched well above their weight. Damn near bulletproof too.

I have believed for years that farmers were over powering their farms. You don't need all that HP to do farm work as you have proven!

"Get more acres" and "get more HP to cover those acres faster" has been the mantra for decades as the seed/chemical/equipment/commodity buyers got bigger and farmer margins got smaller. A hundred acres used to be a big farmer now it takes a thousand acres.

Nice job! Baled a bunch with a pretty stout Farmall M & 504G Vermeer behind. No live PTO or hydraulic made for some slow going but got it done until I was able to get a newer tractor

I grew up baling hay, but we always did the square or rectangular bales. I am a bit ignorant of the round balers. Our wd45 has one outset now that will lift the disc but gravity lets it down. Is the round baler setup like this or is the cykinder powered extend and retract??? Thanks for another excellent video

This was that way , I’ve added a spool valve to have 1 set of remotes to run the baler. There’s another video on that. Thanks for watching

Did you just add extra valves to give dual acting hydraulics and still use factory pump or do you have a complete separate system?

It’s not bad , that’s when it drinks the most. I can bale most of the day on a tank
