You’re spot on with your analysis IMO. On its surface, the song is a standard “I want to get back in your life” love song. But the song has a deeper meaning for ABBA and it’s fans. From the moment the band broke up in 1982 the world has been begging for a reunion, but they always resisted. Now 40 years have passed and they’re mentally and spiritually ready to go through it again. This song is their way of saying “Ok, you asked for it and we’re back. But please understand time has passed, we’ve grown and please accept that growth and change.”

I agree, the deeper meaning is a message to the fans. But I also think these two new songs are designed to fit into the avatar show next year - maybe opening the show. (I think Bjorn's wife would protest if this was actually a love song for Agnetha).

Both girls worked with Björn and Benny and did backup vocals on their recordings some years before they became Abba.

Plus a whole 10 song new album is coming out this 5th November 2021😍 Don't Shut Me Down has Agnetha on lead vocals while I Still Have Faith in You has Anni-Frid on lead vocals.. Agnetha is a soprano and Anni-Frid is a mezzo-soprano, both voices have their own strengths and class, and when these 2 harmonises, its pure bliss and joy as these harmonies ARE the sound of ABBA! Not to forget the other 2, Benny and Bjorn who have always been great composers, truly sublime in their lyrical and music compositions, music arrangements and production. There's another new ABBA song called 'I Still Have Faith In You'. It might make you cry - both positively and maybe sadly. The band have said that the new album 'Voyage' is really all about coming back and their feelings about it. They really didn't know how they would be received again and the girls in particular were worried about it. A new show touring next year will be avatars (they call them Abbatars) of all the band and should be something special to see. Best wishes to your friends. Rumours say they turned down $1 billion to do a tour, so them releasing new songs are quite an amazing event. Most people didn't expect it (even if they said they've got new songs in like 2018), so most people see this song as as a "Hey, we're back! But we are not the same, we're older and we've changed." But as well as saying that, the sound is amazing and really sounds like ABBA. Being 70+ of age they're still pushing boundaries though with their new show and ABBAtars. Their both songs were the most streamed on Spotify in Sweden within the first week of release. Thanks for the reaction! Also, react to "Happy new year" which is the closest us Swedes come to an "Auld lang syne" at new years.

Not gonna lie. I teared up hearing a new ABBA song. It’s not that everything was better back then, they weren’t (most of my peers have rose colored glasses), but whenever an ABBA song is playing, everything seems better. So my memories from the 70s that involve ABBA music are always happy. The world could really use some ABBA right now. Btw, the blonde, Agnetha, is not the lead singer. She and Anafrid both sing lead.

Just a clarification. It's Anni-Frid or Frida.

You both need to hear " I still have faith in you" .. its definitely a must..both females are lead sings .. Agnetha is blond ..Anni-Frid is brunette..Benny is on piano or synthesizer keyboard and Bjorn on guitar..Merry Christmas and God bless you and your family always..

You are correct “Don’t shy me down” ,Deals with agnetha’s relationship with bjorn long after their divorce ,Hence being in the park outside their old apartment and her surprise decision to reform the band. The other song “I still have faith in you” deals with Anifrida and Bennie’s relationship and how she still has faith in him ,when he suggested the reunion of the group.

Growing up ABBAs music was a very big part of life. When I heard they had released new music I was so excited. I can't wait till the new album is available. Thank you for your reaction! That's how music survives. Sharing.

FYI: Agnetha Fältskog Benny Andersson Björn Ulvaeus Anni-Frid Lyngstad Definitely read more about their lives - particularly the women. The women have been through HELL over the years. Like... having a parent commit suicide; being stalked repeatedly by the same dude; marrying an actual prince who then dies from cancer. And the marriages in the band that both ended in divorce *WHILE* they were still together as a band (Benny & Anni-Frid were married, and so were Björn & Agnetha). Every single track on the new album has deep heart born from wanting to let the world know that yes, even in the dark, they have survived. They've announced that this is it. The final album. They are in their mid-SEVENTIES now. I've been singing all my adult life, and at the age of 50 I know that I will *never* sound that good if I make it to 75.

You're both so perceptive in your reactions. You're the first I've seen who understood the message behind the song. They released a 2nd song the same day that Frieda sings called I still have faith in you which is beautiful, well worth a listen 🙂

Have you done ABBA Dancing Queen yet. It's a great one too! Probably one of their most popular ones.

Amber mentioned that she knows Dancing Queen well, but J didn't say if he knew it. 🤔

@@scapito I was thinking the same thing. If J doesn't know it, they need to do it.

I've never been a big fan of ABBA however the message is a great one in this song. Once the song took a shift in tone it sounded almost indistinguishable from their old stuff and that's pretty remarkable. They sound like they haven't skipped a beat in all these years.
