Too bad those *'Villages of Doom'* don't properly live up to their description: _"Buildings sheltering hundreds of infected, waiting for any sign of activity to hunt new prey"_ - Train passes through the middle of town every day: Zero response. Actually the arrival of every train *_should_* be both a blessing and a curse, bringing new people but always followed by a group of zombies, so you'll have to take that into account when setting up defences.

The outpost missions are all about observing your enemy, if you are dealing with a horde of slower infected, i would skip the barriers entirely and just go for sheer firepower. If they are the fresher variants then you may need a few choke points to buy what time you can.

I dunno if you are goin to make this a full series but if you do: Enemies spawn from map edge periodically, you can't clear the map and assume all is safe. In Hero Missions every ~10 seconds research/empire crates will flash, so you can use that to help find them. I'd love to watch you play this game, its a bunch of fun!

I love that you have the same view on this kind of thing as me. Technically i think this is more of a straight RTS than a city builder, but that's always how i play these types of things. I just like building up my little base and growing my city, then the combat shows up and wrecks all my lovely planning and i die horribly because i've spent all my resources building fancy infrastructure and have no decent soldiers to defend it.

Jon (and anyone else who's interested), some hotkeys you may not be aware of: F4 toggles the trees and rocks and displays the grid, allowing you to get a better view of where to put things for maximum efficiency. Alt displays the health bars of all units and (I believe) damaged structures, allowing you to much more easily monitor the status of your troops Why they had Alt and F4 as hotkeys at the same time, we will never know Tab toggles the HUD. It used to be handy because the bottom block part of the map, but they fixed that, so it's basically just a cinematic mode now For the tower defense/horde missions, I've had great luck ignoring the barricades and just going all out on troops. A few barricades here and there will distract them temporarily, but you really want that damage output. Also, I did not know that you could build gates over railways. Thanks very much for that!
@Xenotric5 жыл бұрын

I think it is a credit to the learning curve of the campaign that you can watch someone play the first few missions and smirk at how easy they are to win. The game also has - in my not-a-very-good-player opinion - a slightly unbalanced difficultly. Upping the difficulty ups the number of zombies. If you are getting swarms the increase in swarm size can be terrifying. However with the general map zombies that are floating around having more of them just means it takes longer to hunt them down and clear.

Everyone else notice that in the first mission Jon mentioned on several occasions that he was hoping to find more loot... and despite the fact that he built a quarry next to the loot box actually marked on the mini map, he totally ignored it. -1 PER Also - learn to kite. This game is very responsive to good kiting. Zombies run at the closest detected human, not the one actually shooting at them. Since you can't shoot and move you can get a nice group of Soldiers standing ready and then use a single Ranger to collect a bunch of zombies and kite them in front of your Soldiers till they are all dead. Also Also - these are the easy maps. The campaign plays around with the maps. Some are huge and you can build where you want, others you REALLY need to thing hard about where you build everything. 'She'll Be Right' can cause you to fail missions when you run out of space because you were casual about where you slopped down your starting buildings. Also Also Also - study the tech tree. Some of those missions are PAINFUL if you have picked the wrong tech. A few I believe are actually impossible as there is physically not enough map to expanded into. Unlock with care. Also Also Also Also - Did Jon not view the Lore after the Hero Mission? Also Also Also Also Also - FULL SERIES!!!!!

You still need to give Project Zomboid a look, it's still in Early Access I think but there's more than enough content within it, the level of options and detail is insane. It doesn't do hordes quite like this but everything is small scale...including you, to the point where seeing just three zombies makes you feel incredibly vulnerable. But you do get groups of like 30+ and that's an unstoppable army to some rando fast food worker with PTSD from already being attacked by zombies. Brilliant game. I think it's only real flaw is it's sandbox nature so you just have to do whatever really(unless they've added quests now, they were going to add NPC's) Super tense game anyway and so many ways to play. You even have to be wary of uncovered windows and noise you make because if one zombie knows you're there, them banging on the door will attract more... Despite its simple graphics and isometric-y view it's the only zombie game I've ever played that's made me feel like I'm in a zombie apocalypse, I'm not some incredible badass I can be an overweight unemployed idiot who can barely make a sandwich against heavily customizable zombies.

How does a big noisy train not pull hordes and hordes of zombies along with it? It was going right past a Village of Doom...
@stylesrj5 жыл бұрын
The same reason why when a zombie knocks an object off a table or steps on a creaky floorboard that he doesn't rally the horde to his location.
@mrcheesemunch5 жыл бұрын
But if gunshots attract them then a big noisy train should surely be something they follow, like in Walking Dead when a herd just mindlessly walks in one direction until something diverts it. I guess they'd not likely to be entirely the same as TWD zombies but it's super weird how they just ignore the train.

@@mrcheesemunch That's the joke... zombies don't seem to be attracted to noises other zombies make, so maybe the train does the same thing?

Why would they build a castle in a crater? Wouldn't the undead just clamber over the sides & slowly fill the crater?
@harpoonlobotomy5 жыл бұрын
I imagine the crater would keep the smell/sound from spreading at ground level, so they'd be more effectively hidden than building on a plain. Plus, it takes more time to climb the crater wall plus the man-made wall than just the man-made wall on its own. (Also it just looks cool, which can't be discounted.)
