Aside from the lack of signings to move the club forward, the inconsistency is the major problem. I’m not hearing many calling it out, but Bruno G, Isak and Gordon have been very poor for the most part. They’re usually our star players. We have no reliable option holding down the RW position. We have no idea how to break teams down who sit in and defend. We have no one who can get up and win a header to score. I’m not sure what the answer is, but something has got to give.

Not to mention the fact that when we do spend money it is in places that we dont need, why buy 2 left wingers when we dont have anyone on the right? Why spend over 50 million on a midfielder that plays in Bruno's position and play Longstaff in front of him? Why buy another goalie for 20 million when we already have 4 at the club?

Schar has shown he's capable of scoring from headers. Isak scored a lovely one against Arsenal too.

@@burnaardnufc3173 Yeah we do get the odd one now and again, but I’m thinking more about how few we score generally. We have some tall players in the squad and we have players capable of putting in a good cross or set piece. We just don’t score enough from those situations IMO.

Don't think Isak is as great as many seem to think or maybe we don't play to his strengths is a better way of putting it. If teams want to pay 80-100m I'd take it. Felt so much confident in Wilson when he came on against West Ham. I think Bruno is a truly great player, but not convinced he's captain material. As for Howe. My hopes for this season were a cup and/or top 6. Still on track to do this so no complaints from me yet, but if he fails at both I'll shake his hand but say it's time to move on.

Newcastle is not the welthiest club in the world. They have the welathiest owners but the club doesnt generate enough money to be called the wealthiest club in the world

@@towolawihammad72 totally agree with this distinction. The problem is, in people's eyes, that this FACT goes to supporting PSR, at least in theory. The reason being that people will say "Our owners are trillionnaires so can fund the club no matter what", but they don't realise that not only do they not have direct access to that money, but that they most likely have ZERO intention of ring fencing it for the football club. Thinking so beggars belief.

If you listen to Howe when he talks about this, we never offered that amount. That figure came from Palace and the media, Eddie has said they were no where near that figure.

As you say, so many very average players, problem is they need someone to buy them or let them go for nothing at end of contract which in a PSR world would be bad business. They started with a team which was sitting 19th after half a season.

It's true. They can't sell them for any significant amount of money either. I'm not sure how they accumulated so many average players. If the club were going in the right direction, players like Longstaff, Murphy, Almiron, Target, Burns and Wilson wouldn't no where near the squad. No disrespect to them as some have been great servants, but if the club was serious about reaching the upper echelons of the game, those players wouldn't be at the club

Psr is a fair excuse to a point. But not beating, west ham, fulham, brighton, everton, crystal palace is no excuse especially when you are beating arsenal, tottenham and chelsea.

If you actually wacth the matches you would noticed we beat the top team by playing on the counter and against the lesser teams we don’t have a quality number 10 who can create chances unclock opposition defence, due to psr we havent strengthened our starting 11 in 2 seasons

@Toon-G7 I do watch the games, and that's on the club and manager. We have spent more than enough money now to be beating the bottom half sides. We scored the 3rd most goals last season, so obviously, that number 10 role isn't that important. We have been found out due to the exact same tactics week in week out.

I think our main drama this season is Eddie Howe's insistence (mainly due to keeping players happy) of playing 3 in midfield, 4-3-3 isn working. This squad cries out for 4-2-3-1 with someone behind Isak/Wilson. We cant score goals with just Isak on his own. We also need to acknowledge that this season is an odd one. It wasnt that long ago people were saying Villa were overtaking the Mags for the 4th challenger and their manager is way ahead of Howe. Now, Villa look poor and looking ropey. Its a strange season just look at City and now even Man Utd are starting to win..... odd indeed ;-) . PSR isnt helping either, we still have a couple of players in the squad from the Rafa era because we are not ALLOWED to improve the squad sufficient enough to challenge the big 6 consistently. Bottom line, Howe still has my vote but he has to change things up because 4-3-3 is not working.

People talk about being to sentimental with Howe but weather we bring in a new manager or not it doesn't change the fact we need to bring in a lot of money and we've only got two players we can sell who could raise that money. Conclusion. We need to sell Bruno and / or Isak. It's as simple as that. We bought Bruno for £45 million. We should have had Tonali as his replacement and sold him on for £100 million or more.

It's when they push or go over the limits with the hope they'll achieve something that causes problems and potential long term damage. Which is why regulations are in place..to protect clubs from going out of business.

Just over a third of the way into the season and you could use the term ‘Inconsistent’ for any team from 2nd to 14th place (inclusive). Unless I’m mistaken, there haven’t been many seasons like this. It’s really not just a Toon thing.

There is no ban on shooting unless its in the right areas, who defines the right areas hmmmm. The team looks over coached there too toich heavy, ponderous, lack instinct, there literally doing what Howes telling them. He is very good manager, but hes been found out recently and his messages and comments dont stack up for me. If you watch the last 2 games there have been players bottling duels and tackles thats the bigger concern not the goals. There are basics that must be done for professional players some arnt doing it and Howe keeps backing them. Thats my concern.

I think that's absolutely true for last season, but I don't think it's really the case this season. We've had few and only minor injuries this season. We essentially have the same squad we had that battered PSG last season, yet the same players this season are struggling against teams they should put away routinely. It's confusing and frustrating, of course.

@@Robert.Sheard That's because Howe has taken the intense press out to avoid injuries but he seemingly doesn't know any other way. All teams have to do is set up a low block, play through the pockets in the three-man midfield and he will just leave things as they are. In those situations he just subs in Barnes and Murphy on 70 minutes and hopes for the best. It goes beyond this season. Way too predictable and opposition teams know this.

There is nothing wrong with fans acknowledging that he has done a great job building Newcastle up from what we were under Mike Ashley, while also acknowledging that he has a ceiling and has already peaked here. Last season showed us that. We are now going backwards in pretty much every metric possible under his management in 2024. He is now getting tactically outclassed by managers in the relegation zone and we are currently the 4th-lowest scoring team in the league. The issue last year was "too many injuries" but now with a full squad of attacking players available this season we have scored 1 more goal than Ipswich, 4 more goals than Dyche's Everton and were totally outplayed by West Ham, Southampton and Crystal Palace (2 of those at home). Newcastle won't be challenging for league titles under Eddie Howe. It's not idiotic. It's realistic.
