George Barnes was a very important figure in the history of jazz guitar. Now forgotten sadly.

Just discovered him. Awesome artist. Very tasteful, playful and articulate.. so much trickery going on in his play. I tend to agree with you.

Amazing to think Braff and Barnes came to hate each other!

Every single note is PERFECTLY PLACED... G. Barnes is always like that, so is Braff...... It is amazing....

I wouldn't trust someone who doesn't like the Ruby Braff George Barnes quartet for even two seconds. And that's the equally wonderful Wayne Wright on rhythm guitar and Michael Moore on bass

Two great musicians, why was Ruby so underated ?

Wayne Wright was friendly with my old guitar teacher friend Bruce Johnson who was also left handed

Wonderful! These men played with effortless swing and elegance. It's like watching Fred Astaire dance.

I've heard that Barnes was 'house' guitarist for Chess Records in the 50s. Played on hundreds of Chicago blues and R&B dates uncredited.

It Is rumoured that Braff and Barnes detested each other in real life.
@owejay7981 Жыл бұрын
It's not a rumor. Braff comes right out and says it in an interview he did with Max Jones of the Melody Maker.

I say that to myself whenever I hear GEORGE BARNES play his guitar - I hear a mix of Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian !
@cliffworks7488 жыл бұрын
epitome of swing and taste anyone know about George's pick holding technique? I can't see one
@PetCemetaryDude8 жыл бұрын
i read somewhere that he held the pick with his thumb and middle finger mainly using downstrokes.
@cliffworks7488 жыл бұрын
looks like it thanks
@hollywoodjoe1235 ай бұрын
That is the way - pick in thumb and middle finger- BUT then probably his index finger was resting / pressing onto his thumb ! @@PetCemetaryDude

as usual cameraman doesn't know his subject matter
@deanmason15643 жыл бұрын
yea really. During George's solos he's recording the rhythm guitar, trumpet player sitting there doing nothing, and so on. I wouldn't have been surprised if he showed people in the audience heading for the bathroom! lol
@hollywoodjoe1235 ай бұрын
unreal what ever was that camera man doing ? I have videos of myself playing guitar solos and the camera guy was showing the bass player then the drummer wtf lol ! It happens all the time ! @@deanmason1564
@___David___Savian Жыл бұрын
The camera person or camera director seemed to have hated George because the cameras rarely shows George's right hand finger playing and instead focuses more on the other guitarist who is only simply strumming. Someone behind the scenes always ruins camera shots. Always. It's as if they are scared to show perfection. It's too much for them.
@hollywoodjoe1235 ай бұрын
You are right the camera person is at the wrong players all through this video - - But Wayne Wright - who was my neighbor in Whitestone , New York - was a great rhythm guitar man -
