Excellent vid, some serious diag skills, your customers are lucky to have you, a knowledgeable and honest mechanic. This is why as much as the sound of extra power is always appealing, outcomes like this or worse are always more common after doing such mods.

Thanks doctor, how about if you turn the crank shaft to the point there's no tension on that lifter then use the magnet to pull it out

Chrysler, GM and Ford are all having lifter failure issues. It appears that only one lifter fails, rather than several. I think that would rule out motor oil. The problem must lie in the roller needles. There must be a bad batch of needles. As with other components, I'm sure there are only a handful of bearing manufacturers. It's either a tolerance issue or a metallurgy issue. All can be narrowed down to one source. China.

Checks out. Why I quit being a mechanic. Every LS motor I worked on had at least 1 bent pushrod. Scam world to get you to buy another car in 5-10 years. If they built every Camaro like mine is now, they wouldn't make any money. It only cost a few thousand in parts to upgrade as well.

@@S4flynlow Every Chevy V8 even the sticks still have the afm/dod its just deactivated in the manual at factory. Tuning it out doesnt fix the issue and will cost 5k to truely fix it. Needs normal cam, lifters, crank and retune. Gotta drop almost half the damn motor to do cam on the post 2008 LS3 V8'. The older LS was easy cam swap, not anymore.

Lots of "LS7 style" lifters out there, probably lots of cheap junk in that mix too. I wouldve pulled the cam and stuck a magnet in there to catch the lifter, hold it with a magnet from the other side until then so it doesnt drop when you pull the cam.

Pretty much the same thing happened to my car bc someone cant do basic math. 7.600 push rod in an ls3 = no good. mushroomed lifter ruined the cam and lifter bore, wanted 10k to rebuild that engine, found a rebuilt engine for 5k and car STILL isnt together.

They way people beat the crap out of cars these days, does not surprise me that lifters fail. I live behind a freeway, and daily, sometimes hundreds of times, I hear high revving V8s bouncing off the rev limiters (redlining) constantly. I have watched many KZbinrs, driving there newer Camaros, mustangs, chargers, etc like they stole them. These fucking things are not unbreakable!!! There is no reason to "CONSTANTLY" pound off the redline every chance you get. If it breaks, that's 1000% on the owner. Then they blame the car and call it a POS! The other issue is, revving the engine with no load on it. I cringe every time I see this!! Uneducated folks (supposedly cars guys/reviewers, they call themselves) doing this all the time. This is not good on the engine and rod bolts. Again, people beat the crap out of muscle cars and expect them to hold up. They take, an essentially a stock car, to the track every weekend, and bounce of the redline all day. This is fine, if the owner plans to keep the car, but more than likely, they trade it in after knocking out 50-70K really hard miles. This in turn, some young guy/girl who has wanted a muscle car, puts down some hard-earned cash on one of these cars, they have wanted for some time, and it fails within 10K miles, because the previous owner kicked this living crap out of it. With 455HP and 455TQ, that 6.2 liter engine should live a long and happy life in the Camaro, (((If driving properly, and well taken care of)))), but bouncing off the redline more than once or twice weekly will limit reaching that 200K mile threshold. If you plan to keep the car, fine, go balls out and see how long it will hold, but don't be a fucking turd, and trade in a car you beat the shit of. Some folks deserve to be put on the side of the road, in the middle of the night, pouring rain/snow outside, with the way they treated their car. I have always treated my muscle cars with respect, taken care of them, and have yet to be stranded. I was taught early, treat your car like a horse, your only horse, and 99% of the time, it will get you from point A to point B. You want to race your horse, buy a racehorse. Buy a car you plan to race (build it the way you want, for what you want it to do). Stock cars are not race cars! You can have fun, but there is a fine line between beating the shit out of your car and having a little fun. If you can't figure out which is which, go buy a moped, as you have no business owning a car. Now, with all that said, lifters fail. Yes, GM's DOD is crappy, no doubt.
