Hi Jim - Enjoy your videos. It's always great to do a job that you look forward to waking up to. I did my solo back in the 60's at 17 and I always thought that flying would be my life. Vietnam and the draft got in the way and I never found my way back. Now that I'm retired watching videos like your vlog is the closest I'll get. What's funny is I wound up doing aircrew training, flight simulation for years. Keep em coming and never take for granted doing something that you love. Cheers George.

The scenery was great, especially the clouds. When I had about 150 hours, we had a valley near us. I'd scoot on out early morning in an "aa5b grumman tiger," and just slide the canopy back & dance around, in & out of the cloud tops! I just can't get enough of that type of scenery. Thanks again Jim.

That guy that extended his downwind for you reminded me of a flight I had years ago on approach to KMRY...the beautiful Monterey airport in California. I was flying a piper Seminole and a United 737-200 was behind me on a visual to rnwy 28. Tower called for him to do a right 360 for spacing. I immediately felt guilt and compassion in thinking all of the JET A he'd have to burn at low level...those JT-8's sucking down the fuel. I almost immediately keyed the Mic and told tower I'd be more than happy to to do a 180° and become #2. Tower insisted I remain on final (I was about 1 mile out) and the '37 driver gave me a 'thanks' for my willingness to help out. I figured I could afford the extra .2 hobbs. Would of loved to have had a video of him from the ground circling low though! The dash 200's made some good noise! :)

Hi Captain. I've been watching your vids now for about 3 months I believe. I have made a few comments on them and enjoy watching the flying, especially the approach to landings and takeoffs. I finally watched an early vid you made a few years ago about when you first started flying. Seems some of your experiences on early flying were similar to mine. I just checked my logbook, and my first flight hour was logged back in September, 1976. It's been awhile. I flew regularly until July of 1987, then I stopped. I just started logging flight hours again in September of this year. I never did get my ATP although I did fly for a living with a commercial license, was 1st officer on the Ray Charles Viscount back in the 1980's. I have my Lear jet captain's rating but have no desire to fly one again. My particular interest is in the Cessna Citation 1SP. What I mean is I am particularly interested in purchasing one. I know I can't afford a new Citation jet, but I realized a long time ago that aviation would never make me wealthy, so I turned to something else, and own a couple businesses, soon to open a third. I can probably afford an older Citation, I want one with the Williams engines and updated avionics (Garmin equipment is nice). I have talked to Flight Safety about getting my type in a Citation 1. What are your thoughts on this particular airplane? I've not flown one yet but everything I see about them looks good. I wouldn't hire a pilot, as I'd fly it. I'm just curious to your thoughts what equipment you like, mods, etc, for the plane.
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you went in the right direction with starting a business. I haven't flown the Isp but I've flown the I (not upgraded) and a Citation 501 with Williams engines, the Eagle mod and Garmin radios. What I can say is that those three upgrades together, gave the 501 life it didn't have even when new. My only complaint was flying it for 4 and a half hours. I'd rather stop half-way and let everyone stretch their legs.

Two questions: 1. do you make announcements to charter passengers (we're about to land, fasten your seat belts) or simple open the cockpit door and talk? 2, are you (and your co-pilot) former military flyers? THX

We do brief the passengers and also have seat belt signs we can turn on and off that have a chime. I came up in the civilian world of flying and my copilot is retired Air Force (flew AirForce One), Retired Airline and worked at FlightSafety.

Hey there Captain! Great vlog! Keep it up! Love your comments and the way you present them! Got a question for you! Let's say that a group of passengers are flying from e.g. Chicago to Detroit. Then, midair, they decided that they want to fly to Toronto instead, (just because they can afford it) . My question is, is it possible to make that change ? If so, got any details or any experience with it? Happy Thanksgiving and regards from Denmark!

Santiago Garcia actually that's a good question, I'd like to know the answer.
@captmoonbeam8 жыл бұрын
Yes. I've had that happen a long time ago and it was possible. Today, it's not because every person on board has to have a passport and you have to submit a substantial amount of information before departure and be cleared out of the country. that's just for the US. In addition information has to be sent in advance to Canadian customs also.

that's right. The Yaw Damper is the last item on our before landing checklist. We normally disengage it at 200'. So "Yaw to go" means everything on the checklist is complete except the yaw damper being disengaged..

I accidentally said charter in the video but, this aircraft is not on a charter certificate so there is no duty time. Time wise this wasn't a bad trip. Our takeoff was late afternoon and we got to Nassau in time for a nice dinner. when I do fly charter we are limited to a 14 hour day.

I thought that the FAA recently prohibited the use of 'traffic please advise' when communicating in an uncontrolled airfield...
@nbottan8 жыл бұрын
AIM 4-1-9 Traffic Advisory Practices at Airports Without Operating Control Towers: "“Traffic in the area, please advise” is not a recognized Self-Announce Position and/or Intention phrase and should not be used under any condition."
@jimnew58138 жыл бұрын
I just read that about "any traffic please advise", I have been flying PPL for 45 years and have heard it many times and used it a few times myself. I know it is not a position report, but I don't see anything wrong with making sure there is no other traffic or you just tuned in and didn't hear a pervious report. But I guess the FAA has it's reasons.
@nbottan8 жыл бұрын
Jim New I remember hearing a discussion about it on "The Finer Points" podcast some time back (it might be episode 187, i didn't re-listen to it to check). But I guess the reason was something like it not being practical if there is lots of traffic
@jimnew58138 жыл бұрын
Luigi345 If there is lots of traffic, there would be no need to use it, but if you don't hear any you may want to know if there is some but not talking. I guess you just have to trust anyone landing, taking off or transiting will report. Fly Safe.

grahamboaviation I don't get that impression, but it might be. I believe they have three aircraft, at least, possibly four. I checked the registry on the XLS, and that belongs to an LLC in Delaware, the M2 I don't have the latest registry on, since the registry shown in the video isn't active or assigned, and I don't know if they still have the Skylane or not, and I don't feel like searching for the new Caravan. Anything is possible, I guess, I just don't know.

Those types of problems are really hard to chase down. In the descent the airplane is cold soaked, pressure is increasing and the aircraft attitude is nose down....hmm... I Don't know. I think the waving thing was supposed to be a signal. Fortunately, they were only gone about twenty minutes. But, it didn't really matter since we weren't operating on a Schedule and I was able to update the driver. the people we fly treat us very well and I include things like that to show the degree of flexibility that's sometimes required and that's it's not always as predictable as you would think. We're down to half a jar.

captmoonbeam Oh, I totally understand about the flexibility of Corporate or Charter flying. You go when they say, you stay when they want to take a longer lunch. I'm also not surprised that they treat you well, people who have the money money to have a corporate aircraft, or charter one usually know that it's a good thing to treat the guy up front who's driving well. Of course, there are the numbnuts out there, too who think the rules don't apply to them. I'm sure you have a couple of stories you could, but won't, tell. :D
