Back in the 90s, I had a LAG guitar with blue burst snakeskin finish. I regret it so much, that I sold it years ago, oh man ! It was a fantastic sounding and great playable instrument.

I found a Lag on a used rack at my local music store. Never heard of them before. It was only $99. With a $200 set of Seymour Duncan pick ups in it. It bought it right away for the Duncans, but when I got home and played it a bit, I decided to keep it on the rack. I still play it from time to time.. It sounds great and feels good! I'm gonna have to play her today.. thanks bud!

I bought a Lag Jet (lower spec than yours) on a whim on holiday about 15 (?) years ago. I think I paid £220 for it. Fabulous guitar, it plays really well and is not too heavy. Some years later I saw another one in a pawn shop for £40 and snapped it up as a spare. Both are really good instruments. The body shape is vaguely reminiscent of Brian May's Red Special.

You are completly right, it's a shame Lag stopped electric production!! As a french, proud owner of a Rockline from 97 I'm so disappointed they just kept building acoustic... All their models like Rockline, Roxane, Arkane and so on where pure little gems!! You can find them at bargain price here in France on the used market, I remember paying 1300$ for my guitar in 1997 and today you can afford it for less than 500 bucks!! If you love good 90's shredding guitars, those Lag are for you😊

So, I live in the state of Pennsylvania in The USA. My State is 40% bigger than Ireland and has more people, (probably the same amount of cattle) hearing you say the closest to a chain store being 2 in Ireland was funny and it made me have to look up just how small Ireland really is. Smaller than I thought 😅 Wish PA had a chain, but we do have Guitar Center, even if they kinda suck😅

If there is anything that should be made again it is those really cool Marshall mini stack amps.
@randa4382
@randa4382 Жыл бұрын
Which ones lol? There are some tiny micro stacks from the eighties that only take batteries... there were some that were maybe waist high that had two single eight inch speaker cabs with a little maybe 20w solid state "head" that was just a repacking of the combos that came with a lot of the awful starter packs that sold in sam goodies and the like in the y2k era and recently they have brought out 20w versions of tube heads that seem pretty interesting to me personally. But if it is just that look youre going for you have options. I am looking into all this because i am thinking about doing a cometely unneccessary ab/y setup for my bedroom rig. I dont play out anymore and have zero need for it but i ended up with two little practice amps and some random things that got me most the way there anyway. But yeah they are out there.
@triledink
@triledink Жыл бұрын
@@randa4382 Im talking about those MG15MSII stacks. 15 solid state head with dual 10'' cabs (aka two one by ten cabs) with either and MG or a lead 12 on them. There were many made, but they just stopped making them around I believe the 2005. The Lead 12 comes from the 80s and the MG's are from the early 2000s. There are like Zakk Wylde signature and even Dave Mustaine signature mini stacks made. They look so cool, an litteral mini marshall stack and you can also plug the head into a 4x12 if you wanted too.

I have an Alvarez Villain AEV-425 in red metallic with a Modulus Graphite Neck, Kahler bridge and locking nut. I also installed locking tuners for re-string convenience. The neck plays as smooth as butter and is super stable. It is never out of tune or intonation. It is too bad they quit making electrics. They were doing great things. But they lost out to the big brands.

I lived in France in the early 'noughties' and, understandably, the LAG brand was much more prominent there and I'd see them in most local music shops. You would often see French artistes playing them on TV shows. I'd read that some of the less expensive models were being manufactured in the far East (as with many guitar brands). I hadn't picked up that LAG stopped making electrics completely. That's a shame.
@KingGrio
@KingGrio Жыл бұрын
I own one. It's reliced around the pick guard because of scratching as you mentioned the paint comes off easily, and it has a dent near the bottom because it fell once. Besides that, it's held up nicely. It's not a bad guitar, I really like that it has a simple non floyd rose tremolo system, and 24 frets which funnily is not an easily found combination of specs at a reasonable price. It's usually 24frets+floyd or 22frets+non-floyd. Nowadays Charvels have 24frets+non-floyd but they cost ~1k euros/USD. Jacksons also have an affordable 24frets+non-floyd but the headstock of Jackson pretty much make tuning stability a nightmare with the tremolo system. The main beef I have with this guitar for me is personal preference of ergonomics. I prefer 7.25" radius necks, I don't like having a volume knob so close to the strings like a strat, and generally this guitar feels very flat and I always have the feeling my pick will poke the pickups as I dig into the strings - though increasing the action might help mitigate this feeling I have. Nice guitar overall, I gotta say when I play it every now and then I have fun, but I prefer my modded Strat HSS with 7.25" radius neck, volume knob moved away, custom electronics and simple tremolo system. What about the 24 frets ? Well I've grown out of it, I realize I never play that high, mostly because the strings are very tight up there, the tone of the notes there is weak, and it's generally unpleasant to play past the 22nd fret.

The first guitar I ever got for myself was a Lâg Arkane 66, a combo pack, wasn't the best thing ever but I played a lot out of it and have fond memories of it If you don't know, the cross you see on the back of the tuners or on the 12th fret on some models is the cross of Occitania (which is a region in France where I'm from) because it originally started in southern France, such a shame they stopped electrics, I went back to see their catalogs and they really went wild, even offering a roads model amongst other super weirds shapes (that do look cool tho) a real shame really they really felt like they meant business

These pretty much went the same path Godin did. I bought a Lag Arkane and it had killer specs. Duncan Designed pickups which were basically a Jazz/JB. It reminded me of Godin's Redline series. Unfortunately by the time they made their way through distributors, ie. Musicians Friend and Sam Ash here in the states, they were so badly battered through shipping/mishandling, nobody thought they were any good

I bought mine in 2010. I've got a cheaper version - Jet-100. With full maple neck and alder body. Black with cream-white pickguard. I'd like to point out things that drove the price down (around $250-300): no fancy tuners, no fancy pickups (with push-pull tho) and somewhat flimsy parts. But I love its tone (I'm more into heavy-psychedelic-bluesy music) and its look to this day. And I describe my guitar as follows: a blend of strat and danelectro bodies and a rickenbackeresque head. Marvellous and cheap. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. And bought the next day.

Tone, playability, finish, just awesome. 30 years later i bought a used LAG superstrat, one of their import, lower end models. Also a very nice guitar, plays like a charm even though it's a cheapo. Too bad they went full acoustic although those are fantastic instruments as well.

about that ebony fretboard, it's an unstained fretboard, most "black" ebony is just stained ebony so it will look black, the best sought ebony boads are pure black, but since that's almost impossible, they just stain it. and honestly, pure black ebony looks like black plastic, it's so expensive or have a stained treatment, but the one you show is beautiful unstained.

Those Wilkinson Tremolos like on this guitar are supposed to be really good. Some people are putting them on their Beretta Specials with good results. I’m from the time when you just didn’t touch a vintage style tremolo if you wanted to stay in tune. Pete Thorn has a Wilkinson Vintage style tremolo on some of his Shurs that is a prototype and actually uses a machine screw to lock the string at the saddle so it’s kinda a single locking vintage style tremolo. I love learning about these obscure brands that used under the radar quality components. That bridge pickup sounds incredible by the way. If anyone is looking for a decent vintage style trem to upgrade a lower end and even some mid tier guitars and don’t want to spend a lot seriously check out Wilkinson you can get a pretty nice trem with a full sized block for around 20-30 dollars. My uncle who helped me get started playing was high on Wilkinson hardware in the 90s . They aren’t Gotoh but pretty close in fact they have a variation of the bridge on the guitar in this video that is actually co branded Wilkinson Gotoh but it’s a bit more pricey but it’s a good looking two post vintage style tremolo.

So lame that ALGAM (owners of the "Lâg" brand since 2002) relocated the last factory in China in 2016. Michel Lâg-Chavarria was indeed quite upset. Those recent "Arkane" and "Imperator" are made in China. As fas as I know, they no longer make guitars in France, they seem to have warehouses, designers etc. in Thouare-Sur-Loire (near Nantes, in the west of France). Before that, the former factory was in Bédarieux (Occitania), south of France. The chinese Lâgs are not all bad instruments, I could try a few acoustics, they are quite good value for the money. But the recent solid bodies cannot compare to the previous ones. They are entry level guitars, nothing wrong with that, but we miss the "Rockline", "Roxanne", "Beast" series. The last serie, "Roxanne Racing", were very nice double-cut blues/rock machines, the RR-1500 used to cost less than 1400€, worth every cent.

One os going as low as £45 and for that it doesn't' matter if the electronics are shite because you'd just replace them and still end up with something that sounds killer for fuck all money.
