Hello from across the ocean. I have been following your gathered nest channel since Rosie's adoption and this since it's beginning. I adore your very unique perspective on life and your views on homescholling. Coming from a country where public school is mandatory, your view made me more aware of how things are structured in the U.S. ( the ideia of homeschooling was quite alien to me). Regarding your book club videos, my bank account is not happy about and my “to read” has increased significantly! Please keep it up! Congratulations from Portugal.

As a librarian (and consequently a person who has studied reading), listening to an audiobook is the same as reading the physical book. Books contain very complex sentences and descriptions (far more complex than media made specifically for listening). So your brain reacts pretty much the same!

I recently finished reading Girl in Translation, The Weight in Our Sky, and Lucky Broken Girl for my sister’s homeschool reading. I think Girl in Translation specifically is a solid read but I definitely am going to hold off on it until 8th grade or high school since I think the themes are very important to discuss but we’re still building up on theme comprehension. I also read When Breath Becomes Air as an emotional reset, So You Want to Talk About Race, Modern Herstory, If You Leave Me, and Such a Fun Age. I’m currently reading The Leavers, which has a slow start personally, but gets better after time.

Have you read 'Kisses from Katie'? I've just bought it and am excited to start reading it, I think you'd really love it! It's about a girl who after a visiting Uganda before college decided to move out there permanently, the amazon description says "By the age of 22 Katie had adopted 14 girls and founded Amizima Ministries which currently has sponsors for over 600 children and a feeding program for Ugandas poorest citizens".

So many, but one that I think is really applicable given the current climate is called Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick. I am almost done reading Code Name Verity and i am really enjoying the way it is written and how the story is told. You are basically reading a lady spys confession to the Gestapo in 1943 where she tells the story of how she came to be there but also what is happening to her in the 'present'. Really interesting

The most recent book I read was The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Needed a good non fiction story for a beach vacation and it was REALLY good. I remember you read Educated a while back. This one made me think of it in a way though she definitely has her own distinct story. I saved a few of the titles you shared here to my scribd account, thanks! P.S. The way you are getting all these videos out through your move is kind of blowing my mind 😅. But I love seeing things unfold! So excited for you all.

I get so excited when i see these videos appear. One day it would be amazing to have an online book club, like your home schooling one, where we can discuss books on a mega zoom call across the world in our different locations. I'd pay to subscribe to something like that! Can't wait for your book in soft back as well. I've spent years reading fiction and when i first heard you speak about your love for non-fiction i realised i don't 'love' fiction, i just read it because most people i know read it. In fact, at the moment i've been minimising my books so reading one's i've meant to read and then donated them. I read Chronicles of Narnia, currently i'm reading a vintage Little Women (dedicated in 1935) and Jane Eyre before donating them so i can start reading the books you recommended in June that i liked the sound of. Just ordered 'The body keeps the score' for my weekend away in London at the end of September as i'm praying God will provide the opportunity to adopt one day, so your comments on this really encouraged me.

These all sound very interesting. I don't have time to read paper books usually so this month I listened to the whole fox and o'hare series until the newest one. It's a really funny series about am FBI agent that has to partner up with a con man. I tried to read the latest one but it was written really weird, but the last book finished the series off just fine and dandy for me. I liked that it was fun, had action, and the characters were competent. Also I liked that it was adult without having rude language and such. Oh and then I listened to the help. I heard it was better than the movie but I think that the movie was done very closely to the book.

I just finished Devolution which was horror/suspense based. It was good. i read it but I've heard the audiobook was even better. Narrated by Judy Greer and Jeff Daniels. I am listening to Small Great Things and just started reading Miracle Creek. These sound so good! Adding to my list. I love stuff around the government, presidents, and conspiracies - so fascinating. A book called The Residence was an interesting take on presidential families as told by their staff members if you like that kind of stuff.

I’m so excited for the new logo! I’m definitely going to be getting a sweatshirt, if they’re available. In August I read two books, one non-fiction and one fiction. First I read Here For It by R. Eric Thomas, which is a book of essays about the author’s experiences being black, gay, and Christian in America. He’s such a great writer- he can make you laugh hysterically on one page then make you roll into a ball crying on the next. I highly recommend the book (I listened to the audiobook) and, a bonus, the author is also super nice and was willing to have conversations with me over Instagram! The fiction book I read was The Guest List by Lucy Foley. It’s a thriller whodunnit (but more like what is “it” and who’s going to do it) that follows a wedding day where everyone is hiding something. The audiobook is really fun since it has a full cast to narrate each different chapter’s perspective. Definitely a good book to read going into fall.

Try CHAOS by Tom O'Neill. It had to do with Manson and whether or not things were done right, but it's very much about the CIA and their operations and really makes you wonder about Why Manson was free in the first place due to parole violations. The author got a bit rambly but I felt it was totally worth it if you're interested in conspiracy theories! I always followed the Manson case and found out a bunch that I hadn't known. The only con for me was his notes are a big chunk in the back and nothing in the meat if the book has a reference number like you see with normal footnotes. That part felt lazy but at least the sources are there!

Angela, I can’t find the video where you mentioned a woman interviewing a man who was there during the “Roswell” incident in 1947. Do you happen to remember the title/author? As for me, I tend to be a documentary watcher more than a non-fiction book listener, but I did listen to a great audiobook by Dr. Voddie Baucham called Family Driven Faith that I recommend to literally any parent that will listen to me. 😂🤣 It’s great insight as to why 75-85% of young people leave the faith as soon as they leave home. And if you happen to watch documentaries, I highly, HIGHLY recommend American Gospel on Netflix (and its sequel that I just bought outright on Amazon Prime lol).

I read some great non-fiction this month. My favourite (although it feels weird to say that given the subject matter) was The Only Plane in the Sky by Garrett M. Graff, which is an oral history of 9/11. It was told from the people who lived through it, and so it had a real immediacy to it, I sobbed through basically the whole thing. Would highly recommend if you feel you can handle it. Another impactful read was No Visible Bruises by Rachel Louise Snyder, which was about domestic violence. It was heart-breaking and infuriating, but so important. Again would highly recommend if you can handle the subject matter. Once your kids are a bit older I would highly suggest doing some sort of relationship early red flags with them. I'm sure you would do that anyway, but it's so important to know the warning signs of a potentially dangerous situation because domestic violence can happen to anyone. Lots of hard-hitting non-fiction this month, the next one I read was Biased by Jennifer Eberhardt, which talked about police brutality, racial injustice and other types of biases. It was sad and infuriating like No Visible Bruises, but again it's important to talk and read about these things. And then lastly I read Outraged by Ashley "Dotty" Charles and this one was lighter than the others, it was about online outrage, social media mobs, cancel culture, hatred bandwagoning, vilifying people online etc. It's quite short so it wasn't the most in-depth discussion of these topics but I enjoyed it. Loved hearing about the books you read in August, looking forward to seeing that merch! Hope everything is going well with the move 😊

My most favorite book ever is the "Holy Bible " . I try to read it daily. 😇🙏😇🙏❤. I enjoy your book club videos and appreciate your recommendations. I like books and movies that give me a different perspective on life.

Just a warning to conservatives about David Tolbot's books, he is very progressive. I would encourage anyone who is considering reading the Devil's Chessboard to read Amazon's one star reviews of the book to get an understanding of where he's coming from and what the book is about.

I really think you would enjoy KJ Osborne!!! Search "The Scariest Movie Ever Told." on KZbin! He is the best and right along these lines!!! He's been around for awhile but just trust me! He's not one of the " controlled opposition " sorts like Alex Jones. LOVE him

Better be careful promoting the conspiracy theory books out there, one step further and they’ll start censoring you. 😂😂😂 jk
