The tumors from ovarian cancer is causing fluid (ascites) in my abdomen to build up. That creates pain and pressure within the abdominal cavity that needs to be alleviated. The fluid is drained via guided ultrasound. This is my experience with paracentesis, which removes the malignant ascites from my abdomen to provide some relief.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian cancer 6 and a half years ago. Been on and off treatment ever since. I had my first paracentesis in Dec. ( also 4 litres) and am due for another one. I hope that the chemo dries yours up and will never have to do that again. I unfortunately will need to do this forever. Sending love from a teal sister ❤

I think what frustrated me the most is that I heard from so many people that they are ascites dried up as soon as they started chemotherapy. That wasn’t the case for me, however, after about two months of chemotherapy I am finally seeing a reduction of the amount of fluid that these tumors are creating. The worst days are definitely a couple days before the parencentesis, as the fluid just makes things so unbearable. I do hope that yours is controlled soon and we both are able to never have fluid accumulate again and say farewell to parencentesis forever.

Hello I’m from Florida and I have end stage liver failure. I have Ascites that I have to get drained every 5 days. I was taking strong pain meds but didn’t want to become dependent so I stopped taking them. This made my Ascites pain almost unbearable on day 4 and 5 but I’ve had at least 30 Paracentesis and I’ve gotten used to it. The needle does suck but if done slowly and given time for the lidocaine to take affect it’s not bad. I wish you luck and send prayers your way. God bless you and keep you safe. You will overcome this and be a wiser more aware person.

Hello from Wales, I have stage3 ovarian cancer with peritoneal spread. I'm in remission. I had 6litres drained from my abdomen. The ascites stopped after my 3rd round taxol/carboplatin. Its a hard road, but you can do it. Do not be discouraged. (Have you had genetic testing yet? I'm BRCA1+, but this means a good response to BRCA1+ specific treatment is possible) . Sending cwtch from Wales... ❤️

What great news that you are in remission - congratulations! It sounds like we have similar organ involvement so that really gives me hope! My stage is 3C but that is without surgery. They need to shrink the tumors first and then the big surgery, then maybe chemo or something else. Genetic testing is in the works.

Good. That's why I reached out, when I was 1st diagnosed and started researching I didn't find or feel much hope. I had no idea what was ahead. My mind was in turmoil.. I had to tell you that there is hope. ❤️ I'm trying to look at it as a chronic disease that we can manage until we can't. I'm also 3c. This was my regime: 5 x taxol/carboplatin (every 3wks). Full hysterectomy, ovaries and omentum 3 x taxol/carboplatin Last taxol/carb they introduced Avastin (that I'm still having every 3 wks until February). Olaparib (taking until stops working). These are the BRCA1+ meds. My Ca125 count (it should be under 35) 1st test (April 21)..828 2nd... 1144 After 3 x taxol/carboplatin.... 33 After hysterectomy (Aug 21)...6 Now fluctuating...6,7,8. Loosing my extremely long hair was a major challenge, I've come through this also. I can no longer hide behind my hair, I've come out of my shell. I love my chemo curls ☺ I hope u get the ascites under control.. Its so horrible. I'll be keeping up with your vids & sending best wishes. ❤️

It is awful when it builds up. Nothing really controls the pain and then it is also so hard to breathe! It accumulates way too quickly right now and I needed to have another drain a few days ago where they took out 5 L. Basically, every 7-9 days I need to get it drained. :-( Hopefully after my second treatment it will stop.

Having followed a few cancer journeys on yt, I'd suggest if it's at all possible, to get a second opinion from someone more reputable than whoever you're currently seeing, eg Mayo, Specialist centres etc. Whether they agree or not, seems to me the number of eyeballs on it leads to a better outcome. You want your results blown up in front of twenty amazing doctors and have them come to a consensus like at mayo. I don't know if you have done that or not Idk. Just seems like that to me. Good luck ❤️

I’m very lucky to be treated at one of the top cancer hospitals in the country and I have amazing doctors. Prior to them, I was certainly disappointed in the “care” I received. That said, since that experience of removing the ascites, I have received treatment from a different radiologist who does an excellent job numbing the patient and has made the last procedure very very bearable. Apparently, it doesn’t necessarily have to be painful!

With both of my pregnancies I never wore maternity clothing, as my belly never got that big: there was a lot of room for the babies to spread out! It’s hard to tell. I noticed I was gaining weight and it was odd that it was primarily in my stomach area. Even after exercise, it just wouldn’t go down. So, there was a slow increase and then over a month period, I began to look pregnant and the pain was unbearable. I did end up buying maternity pants because of the ascites. However, that was after diagnosis when I realized exercise wasn’t going to change it - not that I had the ability to work out at that point.
