My sister was diagnosed with stomach adenocarcinoma stage 3 shortly she developed ASCITES..... she's hasnt started chemo was advocating for fasting and keto but ascites is making life hell foe her horrible pain ....i hope she'll get through this by god's grace.

I'm so sorry your sister is going through this. If the ascites is caused by the cancer really treating the cancer is the best way to treat the ascites. I hope she does well and all the best to you, Janine

That was helpful. My mum has secondary terminal cancer following a hysterectomy and has recently developed ascites and it helps to know more about the condition.

Fairly challenging? Oh my, if you only knew. It's a miserable way to die because the cramping pain accompanied with bloating, heartburn, indigestion are horrible not fairly challenging. I drain myself daily at least 1000ml.

You bring up a good point about communication. Constantly check for understanding between your doc and you, and whenever you hear "fairly challenging" know that horrible is a possibility. I've learned these layman's tricks from 12 years reading and listening. I have peritoneal malignant mesothelioma, I don’t have cirrhosis…

I saw a study where they used mistletoe therapy for malignant ascites. It was given through a catheter into the peritoneal space. Do you know anything regarding this type of care? After surgery and failed chemo.

I'm sorry you're having to search for this info. Mistletoe has not been proven to help with malignant ascites. It appears that it's been tested but not to the extent that it shows proof of efficacy. My good friend was recently diagnosed with Cirrhosis, and has ascities.. she has had it drained 3 times..but, now it was determined that she doesn’t have cirrhosis, but cancer, she has a mass in her pelvic area. Not determined what type of cancer yet..awful

Lung cancer with no cirrhosis of liver or liver failure, but did have malignant pleural effusion of the lung, so lung cancer can also suffer from ascites, we are waiting to find out if it is malignant
